Egyptian Dress – B.C. Linen was used exclusively as a

textile with the Egyptians because it was all they were able to grow in their area.

Dyes were from natural products and could be used to color fabrics. Often they were used as the surface decorative threads of embroidery, or in weaving patterns.

Typical Ancient Egyptian Dye ColorsBlue- a dark indigo.

○ indigo fades so it was sometimes paler blue.Red - similar to Indian red.Yellow - similar to yellow ochre.Green - similar to green bice - a dull yellow

tone.

Typical Roman Women DressIntusium, a sleeveless under-tunic. Strophium, a bust bodice (much like

a sari bodice).Stola, worn by married women, a full

length tunic that covered the feet and had a lower border called an instita.

Fashion changes were by color of Stola or by decorative edge.

Brooches were also worn.
