Family and Friends Family and Friends

By Edgar Albert Guest

When you’re up against a trouble,

Meet it squarely, face to face;

Lift your chin and set your shoulders,

Plant your feet and take a brace.

When it’s vain to try to dodge it,

Do the best that you can do;

You may fail, but you may conquer,

See it through!

Black may be the clouds about you

And your future may seem grim,

But don’t let your nerve desert you;

Keep yourself in fighting trim.

If the worst is bound to happen,

Spite of all that you can do,

Running from it will not save you,

See it through!

Even hope may seem but futile,

When with troubles you’re beset,

But remember you are facing

Just what other men have met.

You may fail, but fall still fighting;

Don’t give up, whate’er you do;

Eyes front, head high to the finish.

See it through!

…from your loving children and grandchildren

The Scott Family would like to thank each of you for the many prayers and

loving acts of kindness rendered during the illness and passing of our loved one.

May God bless each of you with His grace and mercy.

For I am ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand.

I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth

there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall

give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.

II Timothy 4: 6-8 (KJV)

Mr. Elijah Scott was born April 10, 1938 in Wedgefield, South Carolina. He

was the beloved son of the late David Scott, Sr. and Flossie Oliver Scott of

Sumter, South Carolina. Elijah departed this earthly life on Thursday,

September 14, 2017 at the WJB Dorn VA Medical Center in Columbia. He

was also predeceased by his three brothers: David Jr., Thomas and Joseph

Scott, and two sisters, Louise Scott Anderson and Juanita Scott.

Elijah, or “Come-See” as he was affectionately known, attended Lincoln

High School, and, shortly thereafter, enlisted in the United States Army. He

served two tours in Vietnam, first with The 1st Infantry Division (Big Red 1)

and then with the 101st Airborne Division (Screaming Eagles). On

November 1, 1975, he retired honorably as a Staff Sergeant, after serving

his country for more than 20 years.

After his military service, he pursued a career with the South Carolina

Department of Corrections as an Adult Corrections Officer at the Kirkland

and Manning facilities. He went to work for the U.S. Postal Service as a mail

handler, retiring in April 2001.

Elijah loved reading and his music, especially R&B and jazz! He was always

taking little road trips with his family, even if it was just for the day. Quality

time meant more to him than anything. He was truly a man who loved his

family.

Mr. Elijah Scott leaves to cherish his precious memories his wife, Malvinia

Washington Scott; five children: Edward (Mary) Scott, Jacqueline M. Scott,

Dionne (Orlanda Jr.) Scott Lennon, Michael Scott, and Elijah J. Scott; five

grandchildren: Gary D. Scott, Whitney M. Scott, Ormon D. Lennon, Elijah M.

Scott and Londyn J. Scott; and a great-granddaughter, Malaysia E. Scott. He

also leaves two brothers, Isaac (Alfreda) Scott and Samuel Scott, and a host

of nieces, nephews, other loving family and friends, all of whom will miss

him dearly.

I’m at rest now, so don’t cry;

It’ll get easier as time goes by.

I’ve done my best to live a good life,

For I knew, if I did, I would be with

God and have no more strife.

As my body lies there, it’s only a shell.

God has called me home, and my job I’ve done well.

Now I’m happy and very content,

For the things I’ve done wrong, I repent.

As I see your faces, that makes me sad,

But I have made it, and for that I am glad!

You know and I know that it’s hard on earth —

So you shouldn’t cry at death, but a birth.

I have no worries, pain or fears,

Because I’m with God, so dry your tears,

I love you all, and this is what I want you to do:

Put God first in your life,

And I’ll be seeing you.
