The small business as an employer

• As a small production company we employ people on a job by job basis.• We use trusted freelance employees.• We rely on a family network.• We use a cottage industry approach to jobs.• We offer job satisfaction.• Our employees are expected to be self reliant.

Advantages as an employee

• Flexible working hours.

• Our employees are asked to charge by the hour so that we can use them when and how we need them. On this job we employed an events manager and freelance designer to manage an event which took place in the evening and coordinated artists from France who attended the event via skype cameras.

• The job satisfaction was high and the event was a celebration.

Part-time work.

• Offering people Part-time work makes it possible for us to get the help we need.

• Our jobs are small and complex, we can not always afford a fulltime assistant.

• On this event I employed my nephew part time as a runner.

• This allowed him to keep his other part time job without jeopardizing his steady income and I got the extra help I needed.
