Explorer Flipbook Due Date_______________________

Directions: 1.  Decide on an explorer you would like to report about. 2.  Research his life from any source (make sure to cite

your sources) 3.  Gather information from your readings to use in your

flipbook. 4.  Illustrate your flipbook, following the headings below.

Flipbook cover page: Title page, with explorer’s name, and an illustration

Page 2: Tell about your explorer’s place of birth and early years

Page 3: Tell about his exploration: What was the purpose? What was the actual result of his travels? (why is he famous?)

Page 4: Draw a map of his route, labeling the oceans and continents near and around his travels. You must include a key in your map if he took multiple routes.

Please put your name, student number, and date on the back of your flipbook

You will be graded on the overall neatness of your work, as well as the historical content. I will be looking at the spelling and care of your written work, and also at your artwork. The title tab of each page should be labeled (see example) and colored boldly, and every page should have at least one well-written paragraph,

as well as a carefully drawn illustration.

***You must draw your own pictures and use your own words when writing information down about your explorer. You may not cut and paste from online***

Putting it all together… Using your facts from your Information Gathering Sheets, determine the facts that are important enough to include in your paragraph for your flip book. Make your notes into sentences, and make sure they make sense! The topic sentence goes first, followed by the detail/explanation sentences. The last sentence is your closing sentence. Re-read it: it should give lots of information and be written in complete sentences. Use these next pages to write your paragraphs for your final copy that will go on the flip book.

Did I…

- Make sure my name is on the back? - Illustrate each page?

- Include a Key on my route map? - Check for grammar and

punctuation? - Tell what my explorer discovered and

was most famous for? - Is my work neat?

- Did I check for correct spelling?

And most importantly. . . - Did I do my BEST 5th grade work?!
