Evaluation of School Magazine

This is the final task of the preliminary exercise. I will highlight the strengths

and weaknesses of my School Magazine

Page 2: Evaluation of school magazine

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms of real media

products?• I followed codes and conventions.• I feel I used them to my full advantage. • Also I feel I developed my use of codes and

conventions.• In terms of challenging, I didn't

challenge them enough to make my cover stand out from others.

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms of real media

products?• Although I followed the forms and

conventions I didn't follow them completely or correctly.

• For example, the main cover line is not big enough and there is no sub heading underneath.

How did you use new media technologies in the construction of your media product?

• QuarkXPress was a brand new software to me.• I had trouble with Quark so my contents page

isn't as good as it could be.• For example, I didn't plan ahead so when I

thought I finished there was too many white spaces because of the lack of text which I had to back and fix.

What are the strengths and weaknesses of both the product and your use of new media technologies?

Strengths of Front Cover• I followed the codes and conventions for the

text.• My main image is a mid shot and uses direct

address.• I included all of the things that should

be on a front cover.

What are the strengths and weaknesses of both the product and your use of new media technologies?

• Strengths of Contents Page.• I used enough images.• I followed codes and conventions.• For example, I used columns in my

layout.• Another example of codes and conventions is

the ‘Features’ and ‘Regulars’ headings.

What are the strengths and weaknesses of both the product and your use of new media technologies?

• Strengths of QuarkXPress.• I feel I learnt how to use it in a short space of

time.• I could use the tools to help me complete

another task for the exercise.• It was very straightforward to use

which made it easier to make my contents page than I thought.

What are the strengths and weaknesses of both the product and your use of new media technologies?

• Weaknesses of Front Cover.• My main coverline was not big enough.• I had no sub heading for my main coverline.• I ended up with too much space.• Lack of text and sub images on

my cover.

What are the strengths and weaknesses of both the product and your use of new media technologies?

• Weaknesses of Photoshop.• At first it was hard to use.• Just to set up a new project was complicated

with all the different settings that had to be changed.

• There is too many buttons on the screen to choose from and sometimes it could confuse me.

What are the strengths and weaknesses of both the product and your use of new media technologies?

• Weaknesses of Contents Page.• I didn’t have enough text so there small gaps

between all of the different texts.• The images are not the right shape.• I feel it was rushed so it is nowhere

near as good as it could be.

What are the strengths and weaknesses of both the product and your use of new media technologies?

• Weaknesses of QuarkXPress.• I couldn’t use the image boxes.• I did my work on the wrong page because

there is several different pages to work on which can get confusing.

• There wasn’t enough buttons and options so it felt like me options were limited.
