In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of

real media products? • In my media product, several aspects of current media

within the industry are used to compete effectively against similar trailers. Aspects such as pauses, visual comedy and awkward silences are used, similar to that of other comedy trailers of past and present. Because the challenge of an action-comedy trailer was set, both action and comedy had to be present within the trailer.  This was a challenge because of how perfectly timed both aspects needed to be within the trailer. Humour was a main concern, as different people have a different sense of humour; it was struggle to find humour that could appeal to the target market.

How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts? • Both the main product and the ancillary

texts are linked together effectively to keep the project as a whole seem to work together.

• The ancillary texts include images of the main characters that are present within the trailers. These characters are wearing similar clothing as within the film to keep them both similar and related.

What have you learned from your audience feedback?

• My target market was chosen to be young adults into late 20’s, as they are usually the common target market for this genre of film.

• I have gathered a lot of knowledge from feedback given by the target market and peers. With their information and views on the product, it allowed me to create a product that matched the criteria required to be popular by the target market. Feedback suggested improvements that could be made on all products. Feedback was taken during each stage of the product. For example, feedback was given during planning, by suggesting the storyboard to peers to get their view on it. During production, after each update feedback was given on what can be made to improve the product. These improvements where then made, and the overall quality of the product was increased.

How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and

evaluation stages? •  A wide variety of different software and media technology was used in all stages of

the project. During the research stage, internet websites where used to view existing trailers, and then allowed me to compare them. Microsoft PowerPoint was used to create animated and interactive evaluations of trailers.

• During planning the stage further new software was used:• Macromedia flash MC 2004 to create an animated story board for the trailer;

Macromedia Fireworks MX 2004 was used to create mock up movie posters;Photoshop Elements 8.0 was used to create titles for the trailer and Spoof Company; Photoshop Elements was also used during mock-ups of the movie poster.

• During construction, more technology was used:Digital camera was used to record footage for the film;The footage was taken off the camera using pinnacle studio 12;The footage was then edited together using Sony Vegas;

• Different sites such as Vimeo and YouTube were used to upload the video. Due to the schools website restrictions, YouTube was not accessible on school computers, therefore, it was only used for minor updates to the product, and Vimeo was used for grand development.

Todorov’s theory of narrative• “ Todorov proposed a basic structure for all narratives.

He stated that films and programmes begin with an equilibrium, a calm period. Then agents of disruption cause disequilibrium, a period of unsettlement and disquiet. This is then followed by a renewed state of peace and harmony for the protagonists and a new equilibrium brings the chaos to an end. The simplest form of narrative (sometimes referred to as ‘Classic’ or ‘Hollywood’ narrative). “

• I believe that it is safe to say that my trailer follows todorov’s theory, as it starts of slow and calm, then the calm is disrupted, caused by jump cuts, narratives and a more aggressive sound track.

The video• I had a lot of difficulties when making the video. Mainly,

the issues originated down to the recording stages, as I found it hard to organise actors to be altogether at the same time.

• This resulted in having to film on 3 separate occasions.• Overall, I believe that the final product is very similar to

that of the original plan, however, the overall casting had to be changed as, mentioned previously, I found difficulties organising the actors to film.

• In the first plan, the idea of having a L plate on a car had to be changed into having a Van instead, as I had difficulties finding the props.

Poster• The planned poster and the final poster is

very different from each other. During the plan, I used a placeholder image that I had left over from AS. This image was placed in a portrait orientation to fit both characters in, however, when I took the final photograph, I had to change the poster into a landscape orientation to fit all characters in.

• I believe that this improved the quality of the poster overall, as not only did the photo showcase the characters, put by having it in a landscape orientation it defied conventions, suggesting that the film its representing is different to others.

DVD cover• I decided to use a similar design

effect for the dvd cover than I had used for the poster. For the front of the cover, I didn’t want to have one of the main characters, however, I wanted to use a focal point that was an iconic object within the film. Throughout the film, all 3 characters are seen with the multicoloured mugs, therefore, I chose to use these on the front of the dvd cover. This is very similar to the objects used in the film Inception, however, That was with a spinning top.

On the back of the dvd cover I used a layout to fit screenshots from the trailer into it.

Magazine Cover • For the magazine cover, I decided to

spoof an EMPIRE Magazine cover. EMPIRE is a well respectable magazine so I wanted to demonstrate what my film would look like advertised on the front of that.

• I decided that a would do the front cover of a same design that was used for both the poster and dvd cover. By using the same design throughout all the products, it made a consistent design concept that relates to the product.
