This is not your typical travel guide. While you read through this book I will show you little known cit-ies and cafe’s that will help you see more than just the typical turist spots. I want everyone to be able to discover the hidden gems this romantic country has to offer, and the best part is that you can do it on a students budget!

Partnering with Jefferson clark we made this travel guide for students just like us to be able to explore Italy and France on a students budget. Flip the book over to discover France.

Hello! my name is Andrea Erhart After studying in Italy for over a year I fell in love with the country, But it wasn’t until I had lived there for a while that the country really began to share her secrets with me.

VenetoVenice is a city of secrets, it has many fine attractions and museums but one of the best things to do is take some time wandering along the canals off the main tourist track. Here are some of the Highlights:

Grand Canal - Canal Grande is the main thoroughfare of Venice. It’s full of all kinds of boats and liined with beautiful buildings.Rialto Bridge (Ponte di Rialto), the main bridge crossing the Grand Canal in the heart of Venice, is over 400 years old. Galleria del’Accademia is one of Italy’s best art museums with 24 rooms in 3 historic buildings.

Saint Mark’s Square - Piazza San Marco is the main square of Venice surrounded by chic sidewalk cafes and fancy shops. While it’s a great place to enjoy the scenery and people, you will definitely pay top price to sit at an outdoor table. In the evening, you can listen to live music, too. Saint Mark’s Basilica - Basilica di San Marco is a beautiful church blending the architecture of East and West. It was consecrated in 832 AD.

Aside from the venitian island veneto is a region with a thousand different faces. it is home to the Dolmites, numerous cas-tles nestled in the moun-tains and thermal waters.

Impressive and almost imposing, The Dolmites, a UNESCO world herit-age site, seem to touch the sky, with colors that shift throughout the day, from pale pink to the deep blue of the night - to create an almost un-real landscape.. Immers-ing oneself into a nature of such perfection is akin to stepping into a paint-ing of clean, flawless lines and contours.

Verona: famous for the setting of shakespeares romeo and juliet verona is on the eastern shore of lake guarda

Florence is the birthplace of the renasance, the capital of Tusca-ny, and my personal favorite city in Italy. Here are some places to visit while in the city.

Tuscany

La CitteAcross the river in the Oltarno section of the city is a little cafe and book store where one can relax and study or meet up for a glass of wine. This hidden library has the best of both worlds with live local bands coming to perform some nights. hours: mon-thurs. 7:30-1am Sat. 10- 2am Sun. 3pm-1am Borgo San Frediano 20rosso, FlorenceGusta Pizza Easily the best pizza in all of florence Gusta Pizza is owned by brothers from napoli. drawn to the cheap prices and dele-cious flavor, college student and locals alike always crowd this casual pizzeria. Via Maggio 46R 50100 FlorencePonte VecchioOne of the symbols of Florence This old bridge connects the two sides of the city and is the perfect place to stroll. dur-ing the day the bridge is alive with jewelry shops. it is a great place to get a good deal on gold and silver, but nighttime is when the enchantment begins after the crowd dies down. The street musicians come out crooning love songs and the moon rises above the water it is not a site to be missed.

San Gimignano is a small medieval hill town and also a UNESCO world heritage site. It is famous for its towers of varying height which were constructed in the 12th century by rivalry families who wanted to demonstrate their power by the height of their towers. To date 14 of them are still preserved which form a pretty skyline and make the town recognisable from afar.

SienaStretched across a Tuscan hill, Siena offers Italy’s best me-dieval city experience. With redbrick lanes tumbling every which way, the town is an ar-chitectural time warp, where pedestrians rule and the present feels like the past. The campo is the heart of Siena, it is a shell shaped red brick piazza which gathers around the siena’s city hall and 330 foot tower. Florence may have the big-time muse-ums, but Siena was made for strolling.

There’s more to tus-cany than florence??Take the train to a few of these quaint cities.

CampaniaNapoli(Naples)when one thinks of visiting italy, napoli is rarely on the list of places to go. it is very large and overbearing, it is crime-infested, and it is most definitely like nowhere else in Italy. Despite the craziness associated with napoli it is a city that has its own type of charm and should not be missed. In Naples, all the pride and resentment of the Italian south, all the historical differences between the two wildly disparate halves of Italy, are sharply brought into focus. Naples is a magical place where colors, flavors, culture and history are intertwined in a charming mix of knowledge, joy and fun.

The people are lively and the food is full of flavor. In fact the very first pizza was cre-ated in napoli and it is still the best place to find delicious authentic Italian Pizza. Spend a couple of days here and you’re likely to be as staunch a defender of the place as its most devoted inhabitants.

The sites of Pompeii and Herculaneum are of great archaeological value and are famous worldwide for their astounding number of ruiins. Overlooked by Mt. Vesuvious, the entire area is interspersed with finds from the long-ago past, especially those that saw the presence of the Ro-man emperors that first recognized the beauty of this terrain.

Capri is a sunny island ff the Sorrentine Peninsula, on the south side of the Gulf of Naples. Its unique beauties were celebrated in ancient times and in Homer’s works: Odys-seus sailing past the island, narrowly escaped the fate of those who hear the voices of the Sirens. The island does had a sense of mythi-cal charm and one of the treasures of the island is the blue grotto a shimmering natural

Italy’s Amalfi Coast is one of those places with a “must-see” reputation. Staggering-ly picturesque and madden-ingly touristy, if can be both rewarding and frustrating.the coast consists of a few picturesque towns nestled into the sides of cliffs along the Southern Italian coast-line. It is a pricey place to visit so i would recomend sleeping in Napes and taking day trips to the coast.
