Super iMAX, a 60/40 joint venture between South Korean telco KT Corp and Japanese firm Sumitomo, has announced the launch of a commercial WiMAX service in three Uzbek cities. Launched under the brand EVO, the wireless broadband network has been deployed in the capital Tashkent, Ferghana and Samarkand. Initially, the Uzbeki operator will focus on enterprise customers. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, Super iMAX’s network operates on the 802.16d standard in the 2.4GHz frequency band and uses equipment supplied by BreezeMax.EVO is one of the first operators of the mobile network WiMAX of wave-2 in the world and has all licenses to render respective telecommunication services o n the territory of Uzbekistan. These services are based o n the technologies of broadband wireless access of fixed and mobile WiMAX.

"We can freely communicate with other workers, so work efficiency will improve and we expect to cut back working hours," says Han Jong-heon,

ULSAN, South Korea—Hyundai Heavy Industries Inc., the world's largest maker of ships, has spent nearly $50 million on factory-planning software.

over the past few months, Hyundai Heavy deployed a high-speed wireless network across the yard, one of the first such installations in an industrial setting anywhere in the world. Data zips around the complex at four megabits per second, about four times as fast as on a cable modem that is common in U.S. homes.

Now, workers inside a ship under construction simply use Skype numbers to call their colleagues on the surface. Designers in an office building a mile or so away, meanwhile, can take control of Web cams to look in on problems.

So far, the most visible change is on the roads of the shipyard, where 30 transporter trucks move engines, steel frames and other parts from fabrication sheds to dockside. They've been fitted with receivers that connect to the wireless network once every 20 seconds to update their location to a control room. Dispatchers can more easily match the location of transporters with orders for parts.
