DESCRIPTION•Building a photo comic guide to the library as a class. •You’ll be using and ipad app to build each page as a team•Who has had the library race in comp class?•This is just to help solidify what you learned there and to let you build something together and share with each other. You’ll be asked to do certain tasks, but you are free to be creative, if you’d like. Be goofy, have fun.•We’ll also ask for you to think about how the various spaces in the library can be used to HELP YOU SUCEED•Example of Learning commons page (kael/matt)•Questions?
THE APP(before class: sync keyboards, start new page for all groups – use retro style and delete the sound effect)•Form four groups of 4-5•Hand out task sheets•Hand out ipads – and slips of paper – write names of group members and ipad #•Fast Double click on title/text to change•Slow double click to get cut, copy, delete, resize options.•To add images – click on image icon in pane, and then click on camera icon•Can move image or panel borders to fit•Can add text boxes or word balloons from the bottom.•Fast double click to edit text•Slow double click and hold to move bubbles•Single click and pull to expand/contract bubble or move tail•Can add an extra or new panel if needed - bottom•If you need a new page, click the page in the top right corner- click layout and then click the page layout of choice•If you have the time or desire to change style and lettering/font, click on the part you want to change, then click the “circle I” in the top right corner. THIS SHOULD BE A LAST STEP AND ONLY IF YOU HAVE TIME!•YOU HAVE 20 min to do this and return to this room. We will be around to answer questions. When you return, your groups will show your pages and explain what you found taking 2-3 min per group.

CREATE FOUR PHOTO PANELS1. Take a picture of a book from the Fiction Browsing Section. Explain what can be found in this section of the library.2. We’ve got a ton of academic journals in print (because not everything is available online). Go to the movable shelving along the west side of the floor and grab a copy of an
academic journal. Tell us how that journal or any other journals might be useful to your studies.
3. Take a picture of your group in or near one of the study rooms. Tell us how to schedule one of these rooms for group study.4. Tell us how this floor might be useful for you and other students during your time at ESU. In other words, HOW CAN THIS PART OF THE LIBRARY HELP YOU GET THAT DEGREE?

In other words, HOW CAN A
LIBRARIAN HELP YOU GET THAT
DEGREE?
In the decks, you will find: storage of books and government documents.
On the fourth floor, you will find: study areas, books in the 900 range
CREATE FOUR PHOTO PANELSUsing the Dewey Decimal handout from your librarian, figure out where you can locate books on
Education.
1. Using the Dewey Decimal handouts from your librarian, list the 10 main classes of organization
(000, 100, 200, etc.). Tell us why it is useful to know the Dewey Decimal System and can this list
be broken down any further?.2. Near the stairs in the decks, take a picture of the sign that is labeled “Location of Library
Materials.” Using this sign and the Dewey handout, tell us how this can help you find a book on
physics.3. Find a book on physics in the decks. Take a picture of the book and tell us why you should still
use books instead of just Wikipedia articles.4. Take a picture of the study area on the fourth floor and tell us why this particular area is
different from other study areas in the library.

homepage and tell us how to get there AND point out where we’d start a search for library “stuff”.2. Do a search for “Batman” in our
discovery catalog (on the homepage below where it says “Discover White Library…”). Click on a book from the results list and take a screenshot, so we can see the title, author, call #, etc. Tell us how we might use this info to locate the
book.3. From the library homepage,
click on the databases tab, then “databases by subject.” Take a screenshot of that page and tell us in one sentence what a database can be used
for.4. Tell us how the library website
