Title: Workshop on Skills for Grooming Industry
Date: 25th September
Venue:Room 211
Report:
On September 25, 2018 the Entrepreneurship development cell of Hislop College organised a
workshop on Skills for Grooming Industry with the motive of acquainting students with a
very rewarding entrepreneurial opportunity. The invited resource person for the programme
was Ms. Aarti Eliezer, one of the proprietors of Change, the chain of unisex salons in Nagpur.
Ms. Elizer addressed the students on the scopes and prospects of this emerging and extremely
gratifying industry of grooming. She began her deliberation highlighting the imminence of
grooming for both men and women and how primp and polish have almost become
qualifications in the job market. In this scenario, the grooming industry has also grown leaps
and bounds and seems to have jumped the farthest distance in the shortest span of time. As
per the Global Wellness Institute, this industry is a market worth 3.7 trillion dollars, and the
rising disposable incomes and an enviably young demography makes India the perfect
investment space for global cosmetic and grooming product giants like L’Oreal, Schwarzkopf
etc.
Further in her talk she highlighted the three levels at which students may engage with this
industry. The managerial and customer care being the non technical areas, do not require
specific training. The third area of engagement in the industry is the operations, which require
precise training with regards to hair, skin, nails and make-up. She informed the students how
explicit training can be acquired from places like Mumbai or Delhi, and now even from
Nagpur. The duration of these trainings may be from one week to 1 year depending on the
type of specialization. The students were amazed to discover that post training, even a small
outlet can earn anything between 1.5 to 2 lakh rupees every month even in the early stages of
the venture. Ms. Elizer also apprised the students on the scope of free lancing as a hair or
make-up artist. She also showed a short video filmed at “Change” that perfectly summed up
the professional set-up of this industry.
Ms. Elizer delightfully addressed queries from the students. Thus, the motivation with which
the cell organized the workshop was accomplished. The programme was conducted by Ms.
Prajesha Naidu and Mr. Zidane Kachhi proposed the vote of thanks.
