Design is at the forefront of what we do.Our design is driven by a critical and analytical discourse, a respect for past wisdom,
a mind to future potential and a belief that we have an obligation to leave places better
than we found them. Our mission is to engage people and places to create designs
that enrich our world.
engage – listening, observing, analyzing and collaborating. It means not designing in isolation, but in a
way that grows from the spirit of our clients and the specifics of our sites.
create – solving problems to form design solutions that are innovative, respectful, sustainable and
visionary. To achieve this goal, we strive for conviction, passion and integrity in our design process.
enrich – producing beautiful, humane and inspirational environments, which provide long-term value
for our clients. We believe that the quality of our design can elevate the quality of our lives.

tradition of quality
Since the founding of our practice in 1915, Ayers Saint Gross has built a reputation for
buildings and environments of enduring value. We have expanded our original focus on
architecture to provide planning, graphic design, interiors and landscape architecture
as interrelated services for a wide range of projects. Our ability to translate client needs
into distinctive design solutions has earned us the respect of premier institutions and
organizations in this country and abroad. We undertake research to support the ideas behind
our work, and over the past few decades, have acquired in-depth knowledge of campus
architecture and planning through hundreds of projects for colleges and universities. Our
ongoing commitment to quality, service and performance is reflected in the lasting legacy of
our buildings and design.
Our firm has established a legacy of enduring architecture & design.
10
11
culture of community
Improving the world starts in our own backyard.Ayers Saint Gross endeavors to make a long-term difference in our communities
through investments in social, educational and cultural programs. We mentor, train
and teach students from elementary school through university level and financially
support organizations ranging from the Neighborhood Design Center to the United Way.
This community-building extends to our firm where team spirit is encouraged through
collaborative work, honest communications and mutual respect for colleagues. Ayers Saint
Gross University offers in-house seminars covering a variety of design topics while our
mentorship program focuses on personal and professional development goals.
12
13
sustainable practice
Sustainability is the foundation upon which we design. Our projects are designed to be durable, efficient and socially responsible, meeting
standards set by the United States Green Building Council under its Leadership in Energy
and Environmental Design (LEED) Program as well as guidelines established by other
domestic and international organizations. More than 70 percent of our professionals are
LEED-accredited to offer a high level of expertise in eco-friendly design. This commitment
has led Engineering News-Record to rank Ayers Saint Gross at 33 among the nation’s Top
100 Green Design Firms. Our firm is a signatory to the American Institute of Architects’
commitment to reduce the total energy consumption and greenhouse gas creation in
building projects to zero carbon emissions by the year 2030.
14
15
leaders in technology
Advanced digital systems boost creativity and accuracy. Our expertise in the latest computer software has propelled us to the forefront of the
profession. Since 2005, we have developed our projects through Building Information
Modeling (BIM), a method allowing a building’s three-dimensional geometry to be
linked to its qualitative attributes — from materials to quantities and costs. We apply
Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to document concepts related to transportation,
land use, planning and landscapes. Rendering and energy simulation programs help
us to develop creative solutions, while reducing errors and omissions to save time and
money for our clients.
17
global reach
Sensitivity to local traditions sustains our international work. We have delivered design services internationally for more than two decades,
leading to projects in more than 15 countries. Our campus plans and buildings,
commercial developments and cultural facilities meet international standards while being
sensitive to local cultures and practices. Exporting our extensive knowledge of
Western higher education to developing countries, we have designed campuses
in China, India, Southeast Asia and the Middle East where such academic infrastructure
is essential to meet the needs of increasing student enrollments.

20
Architecture is one of the noblest of the arts, requiring a combination of
utility, artistry and invention to be successful. It must be practical to meet
the demands of function, budget, construction and maintenance. It should
be respectful in responding to climate, site and context while being of its
place and time. It necessitates craft through the deft joining of materials and
celebration of movement, light and space. Architecture requires collaboration
with clients, consultants and professionals from other disciplines to achieve
spatial richness and invention.

interiors
122
We develop interiors in harmony with architecture to create designs for
learning environments, student residences, faculty offices, fitness centers,
student unions, libraries and cultural facilities. Our Interiors group considers
every space from the inside out and the outside in to ensure both large and
small components are thoroughly integrated through all phases of a project.
This approach offers efficient solutions early in the design process while
creating attractive and enduring environments for our clients.

landscape architecture
144
Landscapes play a critical role in defining the built environment, affecting
both the first impression and long-term success of a place. Our Landscape
Architecture studio creates a variety of settings based on an appreciation
of regional distinctions through the use of local construction materials,
indigenous plants and site-specific design solutions. Working in collaboration
with other studios in the firm, we are guided by the stewardship of both
natural resources and the built environment.

planning
174
Our Planning studio develops long-range strategies for the growth and
transformation of physical settings. This work includes planning for colleges,
universities, museums, visitor centers, nature parks, zoos, towns and cities.
We strive to interrelate buildings, infrastructure, open spaces, transit, site
ecology and stormwater management. Our process is driven by consensus-
building, collaboration and a respect for local culture, climate, and place.
Our plans act as roadmaps for clients, allowing their physical settings to
grow more useful and beautiful over time.
