Some of the initiatives adopted to make its internal operations green has resulted in 13% reduction in average electricity consumption in 2007-08 over 2001-02.

GREEN DATA CENTRES AND VIRTUALISATIONGreen Data centers provide Wipro's customers end-to-end services for better utilization of their capacity, thereby helping enterprises to minimize their use of power, cooling and housing equipment, which cause greenhouse gases. The data centers apply practices such as server virtualization to minimize the amount of equipment required for operations.

It helps in reduction of total number of servers required from 400 to 100. An annual savings of nearly one million KWH of power.

Wipros initiative on Bio-Gas from Organic Waste was selected as one of the 26 "Good Practices" for 2009. These good practices were all deemed to have made outstanding contributions to improving the quality of life in their cities and communities..

E-WASTE MANAGEMENT

Wipro will collect the discarded systems from customers. Provide the discarded computers to vendors certified by Pollution control board . Ensure collection and transport of systems from customer to final waste disposal point.

Monitor the disposal of e-wastes by agency. Wipro will submit form 9 and other documents required by Pollution control board . They collect documentary proof that that these items have been disposed in a safe manner by the vendor.

CAR POOLING

If individuals are not able to take advantage of cars with the latest energy saving technology, they can still utilize carpooling, park-and-ride and transit systems. Wipro has introduced a new software program which will take real-time requests making life easy for employees reaching office. The employees are using their mobile phones and a smart inhouse application to car-pool in real time, an initiative to help them save fuel and be eco-responsible

FOR THE YOUNGER YEARSAn effort to incorporate energy conservation into education would not be complete unless a program was created to teach the youth of the country, particularly in the elementary and middle schools.

This program would consist of useful tips to conserve energy in the home simple enough for young students to grasp, such as turning of a light when they leave the room. The program would also have a component to allow students to learn about the way their families use energy.

Students would be given a workbook including a worksheet about their families usage. Then they would learn about ways to reduce those levels.

Also included in this program would be education about renewable natural resources. Demonstrations on how the sunlight and wind can be turned into energy would be sure the capture the interest of the students.

Students could also be taken on field trips as a part of the program to learn about different ways that energy is produced in their areas. One possible option would be local power plants, refineries, or coal mines. These types of trips would differ depending on the area.

CONCLUSIONThe future promises cleaner energy sources and more options that will allow individuals to leave a healthy environment for future generations. Ethanol fuel is one of the cleaner energy sources that is here today and is being used in many parts of the country. Advances in solar power are bringing that form of energy closer to being a feasible form of energy. Use of renewable source of energy such as solar, wind, tidal, hydropower instead of non renewable energy such as coal, petroleum etc.
