I could see the trouble in his eyes. He began to tell me that he was out walking and as he was passing by the church, he felt like he needed to come here. I sat down next to him listening. I dont know whats wrong with me,he explained. Im having doubts about my faith,he said. I asked him to tell me more about what he was experiencing. I listened as tears began to roll down his face. He lived with his grandmother who was ill and dying. He said he had prayed for healing and was at a loss at what else to do. Why hadnt God answered his prayer? Oh, that I had someone to hear me(Job 31:35)! No one in the Bible dealt with more confusion and hurt over suffering than Job. When tragedy struck, Jobs first response was to get on his knees and pray. Job waited on the Lord, but got nothing but silence in return. Thirty-four chapters of pleading, lament, complaint, and confusion go on, and sll Job gets no reply from God. When God does open his mouth, Job is ill prepared. He does not get the answer to the queson, why,but Job does receive the grace of Gods presence. God was not absent from Jobs life or his pain. And, in the end Jobs anger and heartache subside when he finally sees that God is there with him. My ears had heard of you but now my eyes have seen you(Job 42:5). Prayer does not remove mystery or suffering from our lives. What it does provide is a holy place to cry, complain, praise, seek, and worship God. It is holy ground where God welcomes us. It is a place where we are allowed to bear all our emoons and confess our sins before God. Job let God hear it; he did not dress up his words. He was honest with God. He felt forgoen and denied jusce, and so he brought that to God. All of it was received as faith. Jobs hurt and frustraon with God was the most honest confession he could bring to the Lord. And, it counted to God. It did not end their relaonship; it strengthened it. As Jesus would later speak to Paul, My grace is sufficient for you” (2 Cor. 12:9). God, like grace, is much closer than you may realize. Nathan Burrow Welcome Guests We are glad you are here! Please fill out a Welcome Visitor card and place in the col- lection plate. Does God Answer All Prayer? "I cry out, 'Help!' but no one answers me. I protest, but there is no justice.”

Job 19:7

A few years ago, I was sitting in my office when I noticed a young man sitting outside my window. He was alone, slumped over as he sat on a stone bench in the covered entrance outside the church. I went to see what he was doing. “Can I help you?” I asked. He looked up at me. I could see the trouble in his eyes. He began to tell me that he was out walking and as he was passing by the church, he felt like he needed to come here. I sat down next to him listening. “I don’t know what’s wrong with me,” he explained. “I’m having doubts about my faith,” he said. I asked him to tell me more about what he was experiencing. I listened as tears began to roll down his face. He lived with his grandmother who was ill and dying. He said he had prayed for healing and was at a loss at what else to do. Why hadn’t God answered his prayer?

“Oh, that I had someone to hear me” (Job 31:35)! No one in the Bible dealt with more confusion and hurt over suffering than Job. When tragedy struck, Job’s first response was to get on his knees and pray. Job waited on the Lord, but got nothing but silence in return. Thirty-four chapters of pleading, lament, complaint, and confusion go on, and still Job gets no reply from God. When God does open his mouth, Job is ill prepared. He does not get the answer to the question, “why,” but Job does receive the grace of God’s presence. God was not absent from Job’s life or his pain. And, in the end Job’s anger and heartache subside when he finally sees that God is there with him. “My ears had heard of you but now my eyes have seen you” (Job 42:5).

Prayer does not remove mystery or suffering from our lives. What it does provide is a holy place to cry, complain, praise, seek, and worship God. It is holy ground where God welcomes us. It is a place where we are allowed to bear all our emotions and confess our sins before God. Job let God hear it; he did not dress up his words. He was honest with God. He felt forgotten and denied justice, and so he brought that to God. All of it was received as faith. Job’s hurt and frustration with God was the most honest confession he could bring to the Lord. And, it counted to God. It did not end their relationship; it strengthened it. As Jesus would later speak to Paul, “My grace is sufficient for you” (2 Cor. 12:9). God, like grace, is much closer than you may realize.

VBS Needs

Go by the VBS table to sign-up and take an invitation to give to a neighbor.

All Tied Up! The gathering of the ties has been completed. 301 ties were given. We could say that in preparing them for packaging, 4 were found to be too ugly to send, but that would be unkind (and untrue). Thank you for your participation. In many parts of Africa, the wearing of a tie continues to be a sign of respect. These ties will be worn with pride and gratitude. Should Hillcrest ever have a “2nd Annual Maybe Never to be Repeated Ugly Tie Contest,” you will need to find another submission. Again, thank you on behalf of your brothers in Zimbabwe. (Your Zimbabwe “Send the Light” mission team.)

Christian Service Center Needs

Towels, sheets, washed pillows, can openers, measuring cups and measuring spoons. Please place items in the collection box by the information table.

Good SOIL Projects (Serving Others in Love)

The Hillcrest Family wants to help out whenever we can. We have created a list of needs on our website with a contact phone number. If you can help out, visit hillcrestonline.com/good-soil/ on the members section of our website and find out where you are needed.

Last week, we neglected to call out two names of Send the Light mission campaigners. Courtney Campbell will be going with the Zambia Medical Mission as well as the Mumena Campaign. Annelise White will be going with the Mumena Campaign. Please keep all the Send the Light folks in your prayers.

Wednesday Night Class - 7 p.m., Rm 14/15, A Life Long Love Couples often settle for too little when it comes to marriage, we fail to understand how deeply God cares about our spouse. We diminish our need to not only understand what biblical love really is, but also to become a people who excel at it. We let ourselves drift apart instead of making the daily choices to grow closer together.

This series promises to set your relationship on an entirely new dimension. You will never look at worship or your spouse in the same way again, and this series will guide you through the power shifts and seasonal mine fields that blow up so many marriages so that you can grow in your love, instead of in your disappointment.
