Students today are coming into the classroom with skills and familiarity with digital media. Teachers need to bring content to students in a way that they can relate to. The means to do so is already in place, teachers just need to pick it up and run with it.

The methods that are available for teachers to use to teach content is rapidly changing. The challenge now is to keep up with the changes in access to information, software and devices (Johnson 2011).

As teachers begin using technology more and more in the classroom, they will also have to teach their students about digital citizenship, “it's the guidelines for responsible, appropriate behavior when one is using technology”. The way students interact with technology and reality has to be addressed in order for students to be successful.

so that you may be better able to discover with accuracy the peculiar bent of the genius of each. - Plato

Do not train children to learning by force and harshness, but direct them to it by what amuses their minds,

My goal for this program is to become more aware and comfortable with the current media that can be used in schools as well as how to keep up with the changes and new digital media that is already developing at a rapid pace.

The need for teachers who are aware of the resources that are available to them and how to use those resources is great and the need is growing. Today’s student is not being taught in a way to meets them where they are at. The digital natives are being taught by digital immigrants and expected to perform in a way that is very foreign to them. Students are learning outside of school at a faster rate and with greater interest. It is time tap into the the digital learning style.
