KRAV MAGA Interaction Fall 2014 | UI/UX Design | Collaboration

Yalla! Hebrew for “Let’s go!” is an educational tool to teach K-12 faculty and students the basics of self defense through a fun and approachable platform.

This project was a group effort to construct an intuitive and interactive space for a subculture of people. The assignment was to use Krav Maga, a self defense style from Israel, as the focal point in an exercise application. Our group decided to create something to help K-12 schools teach something to combat bullying, help students with self-esteem and defend against other possible threats to their community. My part in this project was UI designs, identity/branding and illustrations.

HEALTH & FITNESS UI/UX Design | Concept

Pact is a health and fitness app. It allows the user to track exercises and get paid for successfully completing their goals.

This was a personal project and not affiliated with Pact. The problem with this app is that it isn’t particularly clear or easy to use. The user interface was cluttered and required too many steps to complete the tasks you wanted. There was extraneous information throughout the interface. Simplifying the UI was key to creating something that would function much easier and make the user more comfortable when tracking their exercises.

E-COMMERCE UI/UX Design | Concept

Everlane is an online retailer that boasts it’s transparency and quality goods at competitive prices. There was a lack of a mobile presence for their brand, so I decided to change that.

This was a personal project and not affiliated with Everlane. The brand is something I am very interested in and I wanted to create a conceptual user interface design of a dedicated mobile shopping app for the brand. The goal was to capture the clean and simple design aesthetic that you would see on their website. Their products are the basics and essentials; as is the concept behind this app design.

MEDIA REMOTE Interaction | Fall 2014 | UI/UX Design

The AppleTV doesn’t have a dedicated remote, but there is an app that is available to control your device from your iPhone.

This was a course assignment and not affiliated with Apple. The assignment was to create anything you would like that would make media sharing and consuming more enjoyable. I watch a lot of Netflix through my AppleTV, but I find it difficult to use the remote app for the iPhone to control it. So I decided that I would create a remote app dedicated to the AppleTV. My goal was to make something that more easily and efficiently controlled the content on an AppleTV than the current remote apps offered on the App Store.

NOTE TAKING UI/UX Design | Collaboration

Swipy is an app used to take notes quickly and easily share them to a multitude of services through simple gestures.

I was contacted by the app developer to redesign Swipy and after using it for some time, I had a good idea on where to make changes and improvements to its UI. The overall goal was to make the UI easy to understand and as simple as possible. We worked several months to perfect a version for iOS 6 and later the version for iOS 7 & 8. The latest version of the app is very simple and easy to pick up. It may seem minimal, but it is a very powerful note taking and sharing tool.

SHORT TERM IDENTITY Graphic Design 1 | Fall 2013 | Branding

The Red Chili Festival is an event in Albuquerque, New Mexico that celebrates culture, food and music.

The problem we were given for this project was to come up with a short term identity for an event that had a randomly selected theme and location. I was assigned a vegetarian convention and the location was Albuquerque, New Mexico. I did research and found that the red chili is the state vegetable of NM, thus the Red Chili Fest was born.

SMALL BUSINESS REBRAND Graphic Design 2 | Spring 2013 | Branding

Franklin Square Deli is a restaurant in downtown Kent, Ohio. They serve deli fresh sandwiches with only the best local ingredients.

For this project we were assigned an existing business in the Kent, Ohio area. I was assigned Franklin Square Deli. The company was in need of a rebrand that unified their overall style and flavor. There is a strong heritage in their restaurant based in racing (owners hobby) and their fresh hand crafted deli sandwiches. The concept behind this rebrand was to embody those historical parts of the restaurant with a checkered motif and hand crafted elements, such as the lettering used throughout the brand.

FULL REBRAND Branded Identity | Fall 2014 | Branding

ALDI is an international grocer, spanning from Germany to the United States and many other countries around the world.

The premise behind this semester long project was to immerse ourselves in the company/brand we were assigned. I was assigned ALDI. In this scenario, the goal of the rebrand was to convey a new “fresh and local” side to ALDI and their proposed farmers market addition to their stores. We were asked to create a brand new logo, at least four pieces of collateral and a brand guideline to demonstrate our research, branding applications and flexibility.

TIMES 100 BOOK Graphic Design 1 | Fall 2013 | Print

David Fincher is an American director and producer. He has directed many great films such as Fight Club and The Social Network.

This project centered around an influential person of the last 100 years. I chose to do my book on David Fincher. His work has been quite impactful over his career beginning in 1984. The book needed to speak to the qualities and style of their respective person. Since most of David Fincher’s movies are dark and gritty, I wanted to carry that over into this book design.

KSU CREATEATHON 2014 Createathon | Fall 2014 | Print | Collaboration

The KSU Createathon was the first time Kent participated in an annual event held at select campuses around the country. Designers and other creatives joined together in teams to do design work pro-bono for 24 hours straight for local non-profits.

My team was assigned a facility in our own fashion school named the TechStyleLAB. They specialize in new and innovative ways to create patterns and garments. They asked us to focus our design first on technology, then fashion. I created a series of posters with simple modern patterns to represent their core services; fabric printing, laser cutting, digital embroidery and 3D body scanner. These four patterns were the foundation of the designs for the posters, brochure and postcards we were asked to create.

LOGOS Branding

Logos are the first impression for a product/company. Logos need to embody the core values, aesthetic and emotions all within a simple mark. The simpler the better.
