about Eco-unEscoECO-UNESCO is Ireland’s Environmental Education and Youth Organisation. ECO-UNESCO is affiliated to the World Federation of UNESCO clubs, centres and associations (WFUCA) and is a FETAC accredited training centre.

ECO-UNESCO, as specialist provider of accredited (FETAC) and non accredited training courses offers tailor made training courses on an in-house and outreach basis. ECO-UNESCO has provided consultancy services for the Department of Education and Skills and Comhar Sustainable Development Council among others. ECO-UNESCO has developed tailor made training courses for local authorities nationwide, the National Parks and Wildlife Service, local and regional partnerships, VECs, private and public agencies since 1986.

Eco-unEsco’s consultancy WorkEco-unEscotrainingECO-UNESCO provides environmental, sustainability and youth training for personal and continuous professional development (CPD) to a wide range of stakeholders including: young people, trainers within non-formal and formal education, professionals, public and private sector, teachers, community and business leaders, National and International (E)NGOs, local authorities, architects, engineers, the media, the unemployed, academics and others with an interest in learning about sustainability.

ECO-UNESCO provides both accredited and non-accredited training courses. In addition to our training courses ECO-UNESCO offers an Alumni Network open for advice, support and networking to all past participants of our trainings.

Our training courses are open to all. We offer special discounts for ECO-UNESCO members, people on social welfare payments and young people under 25.

As a youth organisation ECO-UNESCO offers all of our training courses to young people and we offer special discounts to those under the age of 25.

FEtac accredited centre

ECO-UNESCO is an accredited FETAC centre operating under the qualities and standards set out by FETAC, the National Awarding Body. ECO-UNESCO offers courses in the areas of sustainable development, environmental education and youth and community development. Courses are open to all interested in availing of flexible accreditation that can be used to enhance their learning experience and their professional development. ECO-UNESCO has become widely acknowledged as an expert training organisation in sustainability in Ireland. ECO-UNESCO is the leading provider of the flagship training course: sustainable development (FEtac Level 5 L22380). ECO-UNESCO designed and developed the module in 2005 and has run the course with over 1,000 students across Ireland. ECO-UNESCO also provide the Eco-community development (FEtac Level 3 L3nF2951) module. introduction to sustainable development (FETAC Accredited Module – Level 5 L22380) Designed and developed by ECO-UNESCO in 2005

What? The course develops an understanding of concepts such as sustainability, quality of life, sustainable communities and carrying capacity. It builds awareness of the links between the environment, society and the economy, education for sustainable development and develops skills of analysis (auditing). Learners facilitate a workshop on an environmental issue of their choice incorporating education for sustainable development methodologies, carry out a project on the life cycle analysis of a product and complete a group project on developing a sustainable community.

By the end of the training participants will: acquire a general knowledge and understanding of the term sustainable development develop an awareness of the interactions between society, economics and the environment

What? This new module has been designed to enable learners to become Peer Educators in youth work settings. The course introduces the principles and practice of Peer Education and provides a critical perspective on some of the issues which affect young people’s lives.

Eco-Watchers training for teachers and Leaders

What? ECO-Watchers training for teachers and leaders provide participants with the skills and expertise to encourage critical thinking in young people as they investigate practical solutions to environmental challenges.

These training courses introduce environmental education and help teachers and leaders to integrate ECO-Watchers themes into their work with young people.

Hands on experiential learning and values education lies at the heart of these training programmes which are readily transferable to the class room.

WastE WatcHErs focuses on understanding waste consumption and how participants can address this issue by introducing practical sustainable solutions into their daily lives. In addition it provides participants with the skills to engage young people in environmental action projects on waste and sustainability.

EnErgY WatcHErs provides participants with the knowledge and skills to explore the concepts relating to energy consumption. The course enables target groups to encourage critical thinking in young people and to encourage them to investigate practical solutions to the energy challenge.

cLiMatE WatcHErs explores the climate change challenge, related issues and possible responses with participants. The course equips participants with knowledge and skills to provide for hands on climate change education in the classroom.

What? The ECO-Award is an awards scheme run by ECO-UNESCO that rewards, recognises and encourages organisations working towards sustainability. This short course provides a practical approach on how organisations can become more sustainable and introduces groups to the ECO-Award Programme.By the end of the training participants will: Understand what the ECO-Award is about and how the ECO
