The traditional role of the student is under technological, economic, structural and other changes

Technological advances in education has shifted responsibility from the teacher to the learner

According to Karan Powel etal,open , Distance e –learning is the catch phrase in the 21 century in the education sector because it facilitates flexible learning.

Flexibility in learning is also captured in the CUE Standard and guidelines of 2014

It stresses the provision of learning opportunities that can be accessed at any place and time

Therefore embracing digital technology creates opportunities for accelerating , expanding and individualizing learning
