Hello for the Last Time, Monsters!

Happy March! I love that we're finally get-ting some more sunshine and the days are longer. It's definitely an indication of the fast approaching summer! Before we get too excited, here are some quick division updates: - We successfully launched our ongoing division-wide "Caring with Crafts" service project at the last DCM, thanks to Elk Grove Kiwanis and Kiwanis Family Task Coordinator Patton Nguyen! - The March in March event at the Kiwanis Family House is taking place on Saturday, March 22nd, 2014. Ask any leadership team member or president for information. I hope to see you there! - The March DCM is taking place on Sunday, March 30th, 2014, at Elk Grove Park in Rotary Grove from 3:30 PM to 4:30 PM. Bring your sports equipment and board games - we'll be having free pizza to kick back with the division! - KIWANIS ONE DAY is on April 5th, 2014. Are all you Kiwanis Family members ready for an international day of service? - As of today, March 20th, the DCON countdown stands at 22 days until you each receive Your GOLDEN Ticket. I hope you're ready to show the California-Nevada-Hawai'i District just how FIERCE the Monsters are - especially in our own territory! - We have already begun planning our annual Division Banquet. The banquet is a

huge ceremony to commemorate all that we have accomplished these past THIRTEEN months. It will be a night of food, speeches, recap videos, awards, laughter, reflection, and tears. If you have not yet attended a division event, this is THE division event to attend. Remember that dress code is semi-formal (think homecoming attire) and that there will be an entrance fee. Details will be be released shortly! With that being said, I hope you enjoy read-ing our last newsletter - I will see you at our DCM on March 30th and save the water-works for the banquet. <3 Mama monster loves you!

What’s good 7 South?

I hope this moth has been good to you be-cause I’ve been melting like a snowman… I have been MIA from the scene for a bit due to sports. It’s been so great serving as an Executive Assistant this last term. I have learned a lot, not just in my position but about you guys too as well. Well anyways, I hope to see everyone at the DCM next Sunday! Have a good day! Let’s welcome spring!

Hey Ho, Orange Monsters!

This is it, Division 7 South. My last news-letter as Division News Editor! I put in extra work in making this newsletter go the extra mile, and hopefully you all no-tice that! This term, by far, has been the most rewarding experience I have ever under-taken. I simply could not imagine where I would be right now without serving all of you, Division 7 South Key Club. Getting closer to all of you, connecting with so many more members from clubs inside and outside our division, and making lasting memories has really made my term worth it. Words cannot describe how thankful I am to be a part of the Division 7 South Leadership Team. Considering I joined Key Club late my Sophomore Year, this massive jump from just a member, to a club chair, to Division News Editor in about a year has shown me many view-points of how to make the division the best for you all. Without the support of the fellow editors, officers, and members, none of this, including rebooting our Division Website for the first time in 5 years, would not have been possible.

Sadly, I won’t be able to go with you all to DCON this year because of some scheduling conflicts. But, I’ll be there in spirit, always cheering loud and proud as if I were there. I’m really hoping my hard work on the newsletter can get us Distinguished Division Newsletter for possibly the first time! Oh, and I’ll probably be crying when retirement hap-pens at DCON… But, catch me at the Banquet in April for me to truly say good-bye. Make sure to come out to our next DCM on March 30th at Elk Grove Park, and I hope to see all of your wonderful faces soon! Stay swaggy 7 South, DNE out for the last time! -- In service and friendship,

Hey Monsters!

I hope you are all ready for Kiwanis One Day on April 5th! Some of your clubs have already signed up to work at our Kiwanis Family House so I'll see you all there. Anyways, the looming project is a success and I hope more and more of you all will join us and loom hats for deserving families. If so, ask LTG Emily Mu for details and we'll be sure to include you into our super awesome looming group! On another note, my term is almost over. I had an amazing time serving all of you and I

hope you have all had a wonderful, 2013-2014 Key Club term! --

Hey Monsters!

Hey fellow monsters! It has finally come to an end.... Don't worry, we will finish strong! I have completed most of the work on the website, so hope to see a new website next month! It's really cool, which I hope we can use in the future for most of the club and divisional events we will have. All in all, it was a great time serving y'all, I hope y'all have a great final few months before the end of the year!

International!

Circle K International (CKI) is the premier collegiate and university community service, leadership development, and friendship organization in the world. CKI, like Key Club, is the largest student-led collegiate service organization WORLD WIDE.

Circle K, just like Key Club, is a branch of the Ki-wanis Family, but, instead of focusing more towards high school students, Circle K International shifts fo-cus to the young adults attending universities and col-leges across the globe. With the same parent organiza-tion, the bridging between CKI and Key Club is strong and smooth.

First, do some research to discover if your college or university has a Circle K club on your campus. If there is, you can join! Then, you can get out there and get involved!

2013-2014 Year in Review The summer for this Key Club term was JAM PACKED with OODLES of car washes, restaurant fundraisers, and socials that connected all of our fellow monsters during the warm, summer months. Warming summer memories set the tone for this Key Club term just right: with perfect temperature and perfect conditions, the 2013-2014 Key Club term for Division 7 South could be predicted as nothing less than spec-tacular and groundbreaking.

Returning to the fateful school year, our Key Clubbers, new and old, rekindled their rela-tionships once again and sparked instant cheer and excitement that rang throughout the entire division. With an increase in division membership and HUGE displays of Monster Pride, Division 7 South stormed volunteer events and Fall Rally North, raising hundreds of dollars for the Pediatric Trauma Program, The Elimi-nate Project, and individual clubs. Highlighted by events such as Region 16 Training Conference, Fall Rally, and Key Club week, our monsters took the streets and showed everyone what D7S can do.

2013-2014 Year in Review Although the weather reached chilly record lows and frosted over the exuberant atmos-phere fall creates, the heat within our Mon-sters to serve the community continued to burn relentlessly. Serving at a huge variety of events, such as Urban Cow Half Marathon and the Califor-nia International Marathon, and having a ball at socials and fundraisers such as Caroling for Cans, Florin’Key Club’s Awakeathon, and Laguna Creek Key Club’s Mock New Year’s Bash, the fun never ended in Division 7 South as 2013 rolled to a close and 2014 emerged, bringing new hope and new fun to our Monster Family.

And finally, where we are now: Spring. Al-though Spring just officially kicked off, our Monsters have been serving more than ever as the energy and charisma seen at the begin-ning of the term reemerged at the end, just in the nick of time. Serving at sponsoring Kiwanis Crab Feeds and 5k races all over the area, electing our LTG Elect Emily Nguyen, and having an-other all-night blast at Pleasant Grove Key Club’s Awakeathon, the term, although inch-ing towards its close, does not feel like it’s ending; no, for although the end is beginning, our Monster Pride never stops as we roar our way to District Convention and close this term with a BANG.

A wild Pikachu has appeared! That statement was repeated over and over from 7PM on March 14th to 7AM on March AM. While running around, in my Pikachu onesie, many Key Clubbers from all over Region 16, were here with one main purpose--to raise money for Gaucher’s Diesease and Kiwanis Family House. This event has been a tradition for our school, and this year, having the oppor-tunity to work as an officer was a lot different compared to my past experi-ences going. As an officer, down time was given up even before the event, to

help find sponsors for the event and making posters. As an officer, there would be a lot more planning that needed to be done in preparation for this event. As an officer, you would have to be the one starting up the games, which turned out to be a strug-gle. However, after the games began, I could finally take a break, and catch my breath. While, that was happening, I got the time to catch up with some friends that are of a different division. We had a lot of fun, attempting to dance to High School Musical and playing Truth or Dare.

Overall, the event was successful from beginning to end. When reflecting on the event, many said that they had fun, and they all knew why they went; it was to have a massive sleepover and raise money towards Gaucher’s Disease, and to Kiwanians, who help us, Key Club-bers on an everyday scale. Throughout this event, about 400 Key Clubbers traveled from all over Region 16 to stay awake for 12 hours, and raised a grand total of 9400 dollars by the end of the night.

Missed out Monterey Tail High School's 3rd Annual Talent and Pag-eant show? Well, here's my perspective on how the show went down! The show first started with the pageant show, which I being the eager and will-ing freshman, participated in. Thanks to all the cold and rainy practices, the pageant show ran very smoothly with a win for Sheldon High School for both Mr. and Miss Monster. The show then carried on with the Tal-ent Show proportion which consisted of many singers and comedians for ex-ample a singer from Sheldon High School, last year’s Talent Show winner, Misty Lam and this year's winner from Monterey Trail, Brandon Basa who

delivered a great performance while singing "I Want It That Way" by The Backstreet Boys. Not only did the show consist of amaz-ing performances from both the pag-eant and talent show, but there were opportunities to create unforgettable memories by providing the audience with a photo booth. The backdrop was made based off of the theme of the show which was Disney. The backdrop had a cute house from "Up" with 3D balloons that was attached to the house and attracted many of the audiences' attention. To keep the audience entertained dur-ing intermissions, there was delicious food provided at the back of the show

and games played on the stage. For ex-ample, musical chairs was one of the games that was played. There were 12 players, including me who volunteered. This game of musical chairs wasn't like any other; it had not only me but the audience on toes of who was going to win. The last two players were neck to neck but game then ended with a win for Monterey Trail High School. The event was a great memory for a first timer at this event like me. It showed me how much of the divi-sion is really a family & how much we really get along. To me it wasn't just an event, it was a family gathering which I hope it we can continue to carry on and I hope to attend every year.

BEEP BEEP BEEP, there goes the 5 o'clock alarm. Snooze. BEEP BEEP BEEP, then there was the 5:15 alarm. I finally dragged myself out of bed to get ready for the Shamrockin Marathon. We had to be there are 6 o'clock in the morning so it was a pretty early start. Once outside, it was still dark as night so you were able see the moon shining high in the sky and the city lights in the distance. Once I got to Raley Field and signed some people in, the volunteer at the tent told me that we were supposed to be meeting at Discovery Park, 7.5 miles away. After panicking for 20 minutes, everything was situated and we all got to Discovery Park safely, after getting lost in the enormous park that is. We met the adult volunteers at a truck under a

freeway and started unloading the mate-rials that we would need. Then after setting up the tables, we lined up cups next to one another and poured water in them for the runners as they passed by. The last table was filled with electro-lytes and when the runners started com-ing through, it became pretty crazy. There were so many runners all dressed up in green spirit wear, for saint pa-tricks day the next day. Towards the end of the run, I looked behind me and discovered a sea of cups that the runners left behind. I could not even see the grass because so many cups littered the ground. But that's what we were there for, to set up and clean up. After cleaning up the cups and everything else we walked to the dumpster to throw away the trash. One

of the bags exploded though, so we had to pick up the trash with our hands. Then we walked back, loaded the truck with the rest of the materials and our long shift was over. It felt like the day was over because so much had already happened but it was not even 12 in the afternoon.

This is an acrostic poem Horribly written, I know. But I just want All of you guys to know that you have made me very happy/joyous/proud/elated! Numerous nights sacrificed for Key Club stuff might have seemed tor-turous in the moment, but

You all have made it all worthwhile. (Srsly, how did we grow into one of the largest clubs on campus in 2 yrs? & btw we’ve raised over $500 for charities and completed over 3,500 service hours, like how?!?!) Oh, I’m just so proud of each and every one of you. Utterly blown away.

(thank you for a great key club experi-ence. words cannot express how grateful I am for each and every one of you. it’s truly been a great pleasure serving with you guys! you guys will always have a special place in my heart ♥)
