Bowling night, Arcade night, etc - Same as the restaurants. Contact them!
Bake Sale - Hold a bake sale at your school,(
check w/ administration first) try selling these at large school events, the local grocery store,
church, etc. People will be willing to buy if your food is good
Door-to-Door fundraising - self explanatory
All proceeds made from these fundraisers will go towards paying for our dance and the rest will go towards
this year’s District Project.
End of the year Ceremony/Divisional Rally - Tentatively planning for late April @LtG Christon’s house in Hills-

2013.(Westview boardies - get on this). More info to come.

LAST DCM. LAST NEWSLETTER.
Dearest Division 65 Key Clubbers,
This year has been an incredible one and I am so thankful that you have all been a part of it. I
first knew I wanted to run for LTG when I was a freshman and I cannot believe that I am writing
my final newsletter as a senior today. In my election speech, I promised that I would put my
term towards increasing membership, strengthening club bonds, improving communication,
and enhancing the quality of club resources. Fortunately, I have succeeded in doing most. We
have successfully chartered clubs at Hillsboro High School and Forest Grove High School, which
is now one of the most participating schools in our division. I also applaud Westview High School
for increasing membership by over 100 students! As for strengthening club bonds, this cannot
necessarily be measured by membership or units of intimacy. However, I can confidently say
that this year, I have grown closer to the other high schools in our division and can honestly call
most of you my friends. I hope that the frequency of this year’s DCMs, divisional bonding events,
and District events have allowed all of you to grow closer to each other, as well. We have im-
proved communication through expanding the media that our division reaches. Currently run-
ning on Tumblr, Facebook, E-mail, Issuu, and Instagram, our division is now easy to follow and
very student-friendly. Lastly, at the beginning of my term, I remodeled the standard newsletter
which is now a light mix of recurring news and updated information in a reader-friendly text and
Key Club official format.
Now, at the end of my term and having learned the most out of all four years, I realized one
thing that took me off guard. Key Club International’s motto is “Caring — Our Way of Life”. We
have a reputation of serving our community through volunteering. Yet, shouldn’t volunteering
be priceless? Let’s think about it. The District Project’s entire goal is to raise money to donate to
project:Educate. And, how do we raise money? Selling project:Educate t-shirts and wristbands.
How did we raise money for KCCP? T-shirts and wristbands. UNICEF? Trick-or-treating from door-
to-door on Halloween for money. How do we raise funds for anything? Miracle minute (District
board members running around the meeting room to collect loose change). I understand that
in order to have a functional organization, money must be spent in different areas. However,
the importance of fundraising has been over-emphasized the point where it overshadows the
SERVICE part of COMMUNITY SERVICE. Key Club is now known for (excuse my language)
“money-whoring”. I am truthfully not sure if this is a matter worth fussing about however I just did-
n’t want my Key Clubbers to forget that it’s really not about the money. Serve the community
because you can and because there are people that really do need your help. Your money
can only be taken so far but caring and serving the community through volunteering has its im-
pact that outlives the profits from purchasing any t-shirt.
Regardless, I am so proud of everything our division has accomplished this year and although I
have a new paradigm on the meaning of service, I know that Christon is going to better Key
Club in so many different ways next year and even the world itself in the future. So, be good to
him and be ready for another year of service and fun.
WE SO FLY. SIXTY-FIVE,
OUTGOING LTG. VAN SUSIE THAN
P.S. Thank you for putting up with my nonsense this year. I will still be around to support Christon
in his first few months after DCON but…….. Once D65. Always D65. So, contact me whenever!
