School is out and summer vacation has begun but that does not mean our service to the community ends! We should all take this down time to not only relax before the school years starts once again but to also create a stronger Division 25 East Ohana. To become closer, of course, we would all need to collaborate and make an effort to attend events held by the division. There are several ways to keep yourself updated on upcoming events. You can either contact your president or visit one of the following: the CNH Key Club Division 25 East Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/groups/106190519419222/), the division Tumblr (http://d25ekoalas.tumblr.com/), and the division website (http://d25ekeyclub.wix.com/koalas)!

Once again, I encourage any members take photos during an event to send it to me! Your picture may end up in one of these newsletters in the near future. No photos? Then write about an event! You don’t have to be the best at writing. In fact, writing about an event can help improve your skills as a writer. Either way, photos or event articles, you can send them to me at any time.

Got a question about anything artistic based or technological based? You are more than welcome to come and contact me, especially if it has to do with something on Gmail, Google Reflectors, photography, graphic standards, etc. I am always here to help! You can speak with me during an event, through email, or even through Facebook message.

Hello Division 25 East Koalas! Serving as your Lieutenant Governor for the 2013-2014 term, I have one the best times of my life just within the past two months. For the past few days, I have been revisiting the goals I have planned and promises I have made during Conclave before I was installed. I am proud to say that with all of your help our division has definitely made progress along the goals which I planned for my term. These goals can be summarized by the acronym SCREAM.

Socially NOT Awkward. Prior to my installment, I planned to incorporate more training conference for the division in order to ensure that our officers would properly serve the members. Seeing that the Division 25 East and West Joint Officer Training Conference (OTC) is approaching very soon, I am excited to see the actualization of this goal. In addition, I hoped to implement more divisional wide service events once elected. Over these past months, the division has promoted numerous division wide service projects, including Worldfest and Valley Family Fun Festival. I am looking forward to see greater member attendance rate at the upcoming division wide Relay for Life service project.

Chang up the Connections! I wanted to strengthen the connections for our division, including the connections between schools within our division, between our division and divisions within our region, and between our division and our Kiwanis Family. Over the past months, I definitely saw these connections made as we implemented division wide service projects which helped connected schools within our division. We also held service projects with our Kiwanis sponsors such as the Valley Family Fun Festival. Now, I strive to strengthen the connections between our division and the CNH district by enforcing accurate submissions of Monthly Report Forms (MRFs), visuals, and articles.

Release the KOALAty Spirit. An important aspect of Division 25 East Koalas is our spirit. At conclave, I promised to enhance the spirit of our division by making Key Club an enjoyable experience for all Koalas. These past months’ DCMs have increased in member attendance. This is an indication that the DCMs have become more enjoyable for the members as the division have implemented and will continue to implement specific themes for the DCM of each month.

Everything YOU want. The first and foremost thing I wanted to ensure is that the division pays attention to what YOU, the members, has to say. Through the aid of modern technologies, the division has been able to conduct online surveys and receive numerous reflections and articles from members. In order to recognize each members’ voice, the results of these surveys and the member reflections have been inserted on the monthly newsletter.

Admire Us! I hoped to lead our division to become THE exemplary division within our district, and furthermore, within Key Club International. Although I cannot guarantee that this is true as of now, I can without hesitation guarantee you that this division is making progress towards this goal.

Make me your Lieutenant Governor! Being elected to serve as Division 25 East Lieutenant Governor has been one of the best things that have happened to me. I want to assure you that your support will pay off and I will put in my best effort to effectively lead this division. Nevertheless, to ensure the success of this division, your help is dire. Recognize that each and everyone of you is a leader who do have the potential to bring great changes to the world.

s On May 19th, Granada Hills Charter High School Key clubbers attended Worldfest at Balboa Park from 10:30AM to 7:00PM. Worldfest is a vegan festival with live music, empowering speakers, environmental, animal welfare, and humanitarian non-profits. As well as kid’s activities and a delicious food court in order to give an earth- friendly experience to all. This service event is joint with our sister division, 25 West Puffer fish. Volunteers would introduce speakers to intriguing lectures about recycling and converting train carts into condos in Detroit. Koalas also volunteered at zero waste zones that made sure attendees recycled their trash in the right locations. The different bins were compost and recyclable and trash. Overall Key Club members had an amazing experience as they served the community and learned more about the world and the environment. There was even a free treat, ice cream, as an award for all the hardworking volunteers. It was a good memory filled with accomplishment and fun.

07 Club News

On May 19, 2013, members from Division 25 East Key Club attended an event by the name of World Fest. World Fest is an annual celebration of music, the environment, animals and humanity and its purpose is to raise awareness of the protection or our environment. Celebrity guests were in attendance at this event such as Debra Wilson, a MadTV comedian. Members experienced new things such as zip car ride shuttles to World Fest at the parking lot. There were many jobs for volunteers to do. Most volunteers were involved in the Eco-Trash, but some volunteers worked booths such as Ruben Viramontes who worked the water-filtration booth. Volunteers were also able to walk dogs. Some of the Kennedy high school koalas were able to hand out Eco-bags to those who were entering the festival. What seems to me the most interesting part is the fact that all the food at the festival was vegan. This shows that the festival really is trying to raise awareness about the protection of our environment so it’s safe to say this festival would not be fun for meat lovers.

Join Division 25 East Koalas and Division 25 West Pufferfish along the “GOLDEN Brick Road to Service.” From “Finding a Fundraiser” to “How to BEE a Leader”, the Division 25 east and West Joint OTC will provide you with many different informative workshops that will definitely benefit in developing important leadership skills. If you are a club officer, remember to attend this important training conference. Club members are very welcomed to attend as well.

Join the 3 North Starfish, 3 South Wolves, 16 White Tigers, 25 East Koalas, and 25 West Pufferfish in their annual Region 7 Beach Clean-Up event! Earn community service hours, eat (GOOD) food, play games, meet new people, and have random jam sessions with Key Clubbers from Burbank to Santa Clarita! This BEEutiful summer beach day will definitely be a highlight of your summer!

The new Region 7 hoodies will also be given out during this event!But wait...what was the winning design?

Koala of the Month

Brian Bautistafrom Granada Hills Charter High School

Brian Bautista has been an exemplary member this month. He is always volunteering for events and stays long hours for them, often from beginning until the very end. He demonstrates Key Club’s

core values of caring, by helping out both officers and members, alike at any of the events; inclusiveness, by being hospitable to event goers

and greeting any fellow members; leadership, by taking the initiative to volunteer first whenever

someone needs the help; and character-building, by being all-around an optimistic member who has a zeal for service. His compassion for others and dedication to service is certainly evident in all the events he has attended this month and

months prior. Throughout the year, Brian has also maintained constant attendance, if not increasing attendance to events. And he is always sporting a smile whenever someone calls for a volunteer at a certain booth or for help unloading things from a car. For these reasons, Brian Bautista certainly

qualifies as Koala of the Month.

Birmingham High School

Over the past terms, Birmingham Charter Key Club has not been unequivocally the most active club within the division. Nevertheless, within these past months, I have seen

tremendous growth with Birmingham Charter Key Club that I decided to nominate Birmingham Charter Key Club as the Club of the Month. In the past, Birmingham Charter Key Club has experienced difficulties in submitting its paperwork on time. However, for these past few months, Birmingham Charter Key Club has been one of the first clubs to

turn in their monthly paperwork. This month, Birmingham Charter Key Club is one of the few clubs that submitted all assigned paperwork. In addition, I have been seeing an increasing member attendance at division council meetings and division wide service projects. This is

an indication of the dedication Birmingham Charter Key Club leaders, including both officers and members, have put in to this organization to ensure the betterment of our community. Although Birmingham Charter Key Club has a lot of areas that need in improvements, as

a Lieutenant Governor, I am proud to say that Birmingham Charter Key Club definitely has the potential to make and achieve those improvements. Therefore, for the month of June, I

Hannah Luongfrom Cleveland High School

When I thought of nominating an Officer of the Month for June, Cleveland Key Club President Hannah Luong’s name

immediately came to my mind. Throughout this month, Hannah has been such a great help to the division and

has exemplified the type of leadership Division 25 East Key Club continues to strive to develop. As the coordinator for the Relay for Life service project held at Reseda, President

Hannah has constantly updated me on the logistics of the event while maintaining her responsibilities to the club she serves as the president. With her ceaseless reminders

and conspicuous efforts, Division 25 East Key Club was able to fundraise over $700 as a team at the Relay for Life

event. In addition, President Hannah has been able to maintain membership attendance at service projects for

her club even though it is summer break. This indicates her exceptional leadership abilities and efforts in communicating

with the members she serve to publicize the golden ticket of service. The on time submissions of Cleveland Key Club’s

monthly paperwork for the past months further show the time which President Hannah dedicates in communicating

with her officer board. I am beyond fortunately to be able to work with such a great leader and friend as the Lieutenant

Governor and anticipate continuous growth from Cleveland Key Club under the leadership of President Hannah.

Most peopele don’t know that I used to be really shy until the 8th grade. [Joining Key Club] in 9th grade has helped me become even more confident and a much more sociable person.
