The Current System is Incomplete

Source: Harris County Disaster Planning Office Post Katrina and Rita

The need for a simple end-to-end communication solution was evident in recent events:• Harris County did not know what volunteers / supplies were coming (or when)

• Existing Wi-Fi was overloaded in public areas

• Harris County officials used a telephone tree during Katrina

– The Internet exists but is unusable without tools to make it useful for the situation

• The Red Cross used a paper-based system for gathering information

– There were 20-30,000 pieces of paper collected

• 110,000 local volunteers participated in the Katrina and Rita efforts

There is a big void for volunteers and impacted residents• No clear, common operating picture (COP) exists during

emergency response and recovery for volunteers and citizens

• No sustainable solution exists for data collection, and information dissemination to volunteers and citizens

• There are limited tools in place today for information dissemination:

– Mass Media

– Static Websites

– Proprietary or closed systems

Page 17: Disaster Communications and Operations Management (DCOMS)

And Disasters are Growing Every Year

The scale of disruption and damage caused by Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Rita were unprecedented

• Rita required the largest evacuation in U.S. history

• Katrina displaced over 1.1 Million people

• 220,000 disaster relief workers participated across the U.S.

• Katrina relief is estimated to exceed $2 Billion

• No automation in place causing massive delays/errors during ---registration process

Page 18: Disaster Communications and Operations Management (DCOMS)

What Do Cities Need?

• Interoperable Communications that link first responders, agency staff, citizens, volunteers and others

– Redundancy that allows communications despite extensive damage to facilities, equipment and infrastructure

– The ability to immediately re-establish disaster-site communications

– Flexibility to adapt the rapidly changing situations and scale when required

• Rock-solid reliability and trustworthy support

– Pre-configured solutions that combine needed capabilities into a comprehensive end-to-end solution

– Affordability and the ability to rapidly scale capabilities

– The ability to cross geographical boundaries to integrate displaced residents and remote volunteers with no barriers

How To Pursue A Sales Lead

Page 60: Disaster Communications and Operations Management (DCOMS)

Sales Engagement Strategy

• Installed-base

– Provide starter kit option in all quotes

– Provide supporting documents and contact information for partners

• Response For Proposals (RFP)

– Provide starter kit option in all RFPs

– Provide supporting documents and contact information for partners

• New Clients

– Introduce the Digital Communities initiative and provide with starter kit information

– Introduce partners to potential clients

Page 61: Disaster Communications and Operations Management (DCOMS)

Anatomy of a Deal

• Scenario 1: Cisco ATP Partners find an opportunity/RFP for the Starter Kit Solution

– They go to www.govtech.net/dcomskit to learn more about the solution and send the contact us email to [email protected]

– They follow the engagement rules for each of the other 4 solution providers and contact the companies based on opportunity specifics

– The companies respond within a defined timeframe to support the opportunity (usually 24 hours)

– The combined team works on winning the opportunity

– City/Community still would have contracts with individual vendors/reseller partners

Page 62: Disaster Communications and Operations Management (DCOMS)

Anatomy of a Deal

• Scenario 2: HP, Pacstar, Intel, Simdesk or iPass Partners find an opportunity

– They pursue the opportunity as usual

– Discuss with customer if they would be interested in an end-to-end video mobility solution provided by best of class vendors

– They go to www.govtech.net/dcomskit to learn more about the solution and send the contact us email to [email protected]

– Or follow the engagement rules for each of the other 4 solution providers and contact the companies based on opportunity specifics

– The companies will make best effort to respond by the next business day to support the opportunity

– The combined team works on winning the opportunity

– City/Community still would have contracts with individual vendors/reseller partners

Page 63: Disaster Communications and Operations Management (DCOMS)

Anatomy of a Deal

• Scenario 3: Customer comes to www.govtech.net/dcomskit and sends a contact us email for more information

– All 5 solution partners get notified with an email alert

– They identify who has the best relationship, if anyone, with the potential customer

– If one of the solution partners has a relationship then they will take the lead role to follow up, else the partners will identify one of their reseller partners in the region to follow-up

– The companies will make best effort to respond by the next business day to support the opportunity

– The combined team works on winning the opportunity

– City/Community still would have contracts with individual vendors/reseller partners
