Digipak

Analysis!

Page 2: Digipack powerpoint

What I am going to do…

• I am going to look at different artists digipaks to get ideas on how we will make ours and to get any ideas.

• For some artists I can only find pieces of the digipak such as the front cover, but I will analyse as much as possible for different artists.

• The different digipaks that I will analyse will either be artists with a similar genre or style to our song ‘Dollhouse’, or simply be digipaks that have really good ideas that we would like to get some inspiration from!

Katy Perry Katy’s music is also in the pop genre and she is a female artist, so I will look at her digipak to see what style she uses.

The swirly writing adds a femininity to the album cover and fits in with the style of the rest of the cover.

There are different props all related to the feminine feel of the cover such as the flowers and flamingo.

All of the colours have been over exposed so that they look a lot brighter such as the sky and the grass. These effect make it much more attractive to the eye.

The clothing she is wearing show off her body quite a lot and she is laying in a position which sexualises herself. The way she has the sunglasses in her mouth adds to this too.

Lily AllenThe name is in the biggest boldest writing, and then the album name is written below in a smaller different font.

Lily’s music is in the similar pop genre to us, so it will be useful to see what her digi-pack looks like.

The only colours used are pink and black which keeps it more simple.

The pose is quite simple, and it fits with the simplicity of the rest of the cover.

Sorry about the bad quality of the picture!

This spines feature the artist name and album name, in the same house colours and the same font.

The same light pink has been used on back the same as with the front.

Bar code in the bottom right

corner.

The track names are simply listed at the top of the page.

The big letters have been used on the back, continuing on nicely from the big ‘L’ for Lily on the front.

There is also industry information such as the record label and her website on the bottom left.

Ke$ha As with Katy Perry's and lily Allen's album covers, the artists name is the main focus over the album name. ‘Kesha’ is in a colour that stands out more and is at the top.

The album cover is fairly simple with a close up of the artists face. This was important because it was Kesha’s first album, so people need to know who she is.

The edges have been slightly cut which is a subtle effect, but it makes the cover more interesting.

The font for ‘Ke$ha’ and ‘Animal’ are in the same font and both have a glittery style to them.

The spine consists of the artist name and album name.

The bar code is at the top of the page on this album.

The same house colours have been used on the back too, of gold, purple, black and white.

There are waves at the bottom of the page in the glittery gold – the same as the style of ‘Kesha’ on the front. And the other waves are of zebras which fits with the name of the album ‘animal’.

Industry information such as the record label and the executive producers are on the back.

The tracks are listed one after another in random fonts, with the track numbers in a different font and colour.

The front and back have the same background which makes the album more coherent.

Miley CyrusShe has used very few house colours to keep it simple – just black and brown.

She has included information on the front about the CD to attract people to buy it, with important information in bold.

Her name is the biggest, and then the album name is smaller.

There is some information at the bottom of the back page such as the website and record label.

The titles of her songs are in the house font and in a simple layout to fit in with the general design of the digipak. There are 12 tracks which is a common number which artists use. I have seen some brand new artists with 12+ though.
