I remember fondly my time in junior high when I first picked up the trombone, blew my first couple of notes and then was asked to perform. I thank my parents for attending those first couple of painful concerts as my fellow band geeks and I worked our way through our first few songs. This concert was not like that. The bands performed excellently alongside the Oilfields senior band and a variety of other “senior” performers last Thursday. Many thanks go to Mr. Taylor and Mr. Benson for the hours of work with our students who came to perform that night. Finally, a huge thank-you to all of the families who came and supported the band program with your attendance, bake sale items and purchases. We appreciate your support. The rest of MCS is also working hard to ensure an excellent performance at our annual Christmas production being held on December 11 th , starting at 7:00pm. Please note, we will be accepting unwrapped gifts to donate to local charities, food bank donations and there may be some goodies up for grabs to support the Light-a-Candle fundraiser. We look forward to seeing our whole community come to this annual spectacle of MCS talent. 4th Annual Light-a-Candle Campaign
In 2010, Samantha Scott (one of our current grade 6 students) had a dream to support local charities during the Christmas Season through engaging MCS students to make a pledge. The pledge? Simple. Five dollars from each child in MCS to be donated to one of three causes. Students are encouraged to volunteer time, complete an extra chore, ask Santa for support, or bake something for the bake sale being held at MCS on December 11
th. This year the three charities being supported are;
The Alberta Children’s Hospital The Calgary Humane Society The Oilfields Food Bank
Students are encouraged to bring in their donations and choose one or all of these charities to support. Jars will be in the office to accept donations and all proceeds of the bake sale will be divided evenly amongst the charities. Thank-you for your support! Samantha Scott and Hanna Matovich
Please join the students from Kindergarten to Grade 8 as we share a seasonal musical that sees a very Scrooge-like Elf named Carol change from bitter to better through the power of friendship and caring. Please note that our dress rehearsal will be at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 11. This is often a great performance for family and friends to attend or to photograph or record your young actor or actress as our evening performance is always a full-house of excitement. Every student in our performance will be one of Santa’s elves. Teachers are arranging elf hats for their respective classes. Parents are kindly asked to consider very simple costuming for their elf. Here are a few suggestions:
A plain t-shirt or sweater – no logos please
Long shorts
Tights or stockings
Students will wear their regular indoor footwear to avoid any elf slipping or sliding. Costumes should be at school in a labeled bag by Wednesday, December 10. Any further questions can be addressed to your child’s teacher. As this musical takes place in Santa’s Workshop, we would like to invite you to join our staff in providing a bit of Christmas cheer to those less fortunate children in our community by bringing a new, unwrapped toy on the night of the concert. These toys will be collected and delivered to the Toy Mountain project.
School Council
will be hosting the first annual Christmas Cookie Exchange in conjunction with our December meeting

Community News
Halloween Howl 2014
On behalf of the Millarville community we would like to thank the MRAS for the continued sponsorship
of this well-loved and much anticipated community event. We had approximately 200 kids participate
this year! Thank you to Linda Bunn for being our pumpkin judge of all the amazing carved creations!
It was wonderful to see all the dressed up kids in the costume parade! A big thank you to all the
volunteers that ran the upstairs and especially to the Grade 5s that operated all the games. They did
a fantastic job! Thank you to Rory Nicholson that helped out last-minute to be our bartender and to
Brian Dunne for emceeing again this year.
The Haunted House was very successful in scaring everyone! This popular feature of the Howl will be
talked about for years to come! We appreciate all the hard work and many hours that the volunteers
put into the Haunted House! The kids loved it and adults too.
Thanks to the MRAS the Halloween Howl has been a Millarville tradition for close to 50 years! We
truly appreciate all of our volunteers at the Howl.
Thank you,
Shanna Dunne
