Place in Dearborn
every Tuesday night

Board meeting first
Tuesday of the month
After a thoughtful prayer from Reverend Walt
Talamonti and a few announcements, we shared
a good meal with some great conversation.
Sheriff Tim Ford collected fines from anyone
who was not holding peanuts in their hand over
the last few weekends. After a delicious lemon
cake dessert, Vice-President Rosa Scaramucci
led us all in a Fall Word Scramble. She was a
little too generous in her clues, so it was hard to
determine which table came out on top. Come to
think of it, we all did. It is always great to have
our spouses with us at the meeting.
President-Elect Jim Rugenski was in
charge of the gavel tonight, while
President Roger Frank visits his
grandkids in Texas. Many of our
spouses were in attendance as we
enjoyed a chicken dinner together.
Gene and Sue Smith also brought
Gene’s brother Ron Beard to join us.
Ron came all the way from South
Africa to visit family and attend
memorial services for their dad, who
passed away after a long and productive
life at the age of 95.

Dearborn Outer Drive
Kiwanis brought 13 volunteers
to help the Dearborn Historical
Society raise money for the
museum on 26th! It was well
attended and very successful
The event featured some food
trucks, such as barbeque from
Slowes on Michigan avenue,
and Chavos tacos.
Below, Gene Smith pours beer
along with his brother Ron
Beard, and his wife Sue.
Right, Jim and Debbie
Rugenski along with their son
Carl show the tee shirts that
were worn by all the volunteers.
On the right, incoming
President-Elect Scott
Murdoch (in the green shirt)
joins Bob and Marge Bryer
on the grounds next to the
McFadden-Ross house, (below) where the event was
held Friday.
All who bought tickets received
a special souvenir mug, which
they could fill with specially
crafted beers, or a root beer.

Special Thanks to the members here who braved traffic last
week selling peanuts in Taylor. All but about 14 cases of
peanuts were sold out of 50, which makes the job of the Key
Clubbers easier. The Key Clubs will be out this week selling
the rest of the peanuts. There was only one guy last weekend
who had a tough time selling his peanuts. Maybe the
location we put him in? …Yeah, that has to be what
happened. He is a salesman after all.

The Michigan Department of Transportation has
received $28.2 million from the U.S. Department
of Transportation to consolidate Dearborn’s two
passenger rail facilities into a pedestrian-friendly,
intermodal station in the West Downtown section
of the city. It will also accommodate tourists via
a new pedestrian overpass at the Henry Ford
Museum/Greenfield Village. The intermodal
facility will be designed for the planned Ann
Arbor–Detroit commuter rail as well as future
high-speed intercity passenger rail service. In
2010, Dearborn’s current station ranked third in
Amtrak ridership in Michigan with more than
82,000 travelers.
It was great to have Wendy Sample back with us at the
meeting. We have worked with her on various art projects
for the Dearborn Schools. With her was Mohamad Bazzi,
a fellow art teacher. (And one of VP Rosa Scaramucci’s
former students!)
Together they worked with many Dearborn art students in
the “Pockets of Perception” project in the creation of the
mosaic mural at the new Amtrak train station in Dearborn.
Its purpose was to bring together art students to create
public art. Their talent, passion, and expertise helped lead
the students in creating a beautiful work of art that will
grace the new station. A true collaborative work, many
hours went into its development and creation.
Special Thanks to Marge
Eckert, who stops by my
office in Dearborn when she
is in town from Traverse
City. She brings us pop tabs
for the Key Club. She missed
the deadline for the Turtle
Derby tickets, so she just
donated the money to us!

There was a Hunter’s moon, so Dues are Due!
There will be a brief board meeting action right after our regular meeting Tuesday to formally approve our 2014-2015 budget. All committee chairs have had input, so we will be voting on the final version. Afterward, there will be a gathering of all the J. Douglas Alexander awardees to discuss the nominations sent to Secretary Bob Bryer recently. If you would still like to make a nomination, email Bob right away! Recent happy dollars included Brad Schoolmaster, who put in a buck for getting a 2015 Chevy Traverse. And, as usual, one for MSU. Dave Lake put in a dollar for the twenty-pound salmon he caught while fishing. And yes, he had pictures for proof. Well, of the 20 pounder, not the 30 pounder that “got away”. Don’t worry, Dave. I believe you. In the meantime, while Park Place waitress Deshawn was picking up the 50-50 winnings, NOBODY could pull that elusive Ace of Spades out of the deck. Tim Ford even tried it twice! The plot thickens while the pot grows.

MARK YOUR CALENDARS
Former DOD Kiwanian member Jim Dulmage is in Oakwood hospital, and having some serious health issues. Jim was vomiting blood, and had to go through several operations to stop some internal bleeding. He had to have his bariatric surgery redone, including removal of some bowel, and treatment for a bleeding ulcer. Thank God, Sharon is spending a lot of time up at the hospital, and is looking out for him. As a nurse, she is able to communicate with the doctors. She cares deeply for Jim, and is sending us updates on his condition, and asking for our prayers. After the surgery, Jim got an infection, pneumonia, and is now on a vent, but the infections are resolving. Below is a picture from one of our newsletters of Jim having fun with the Seniors during a bingo. He was the regular bingo caller for years, and did it for Elderfest.
Please pray for past DOD President Jim Dulmage and his family.
