Day 18 Bell stART ELEMENTS of DESIGN
Write in your sketch book:
Craftsmanship--one who creates or performs with skill or dexterity especially in the manual arts; plus, whose work is consistently of high quality
Today’s Goals 1. Share your homework drawing that focused on the negative/ground of the still life you set- up.
***For the critique, consider: the placement of the figures in the picture plane, the choice of medium and craftsmanship
2. Complete your india ink composition3. Use pens to add detail to the positive/figure areas4. At the end of class hand-in the finished work with your
name and period number on the back for a grade
Day 19 Bell stART ELEMENTS of DESIGN
Write in your sketch book: scientific perspective: a method of representing three-
dimensional objects on a two-dimensional picture plane. In scientific perspective all parallel edges and lines converge as orthogonals toward a vanishing point.
Terms you should know: Horizon line/eye level Vanishing Point Othogonal
During the Renaissance, artists became very interested in making two-dimensional artworks look three-dimensional. They used mathematics and close observation to invent “linear perspective”
Filippo Brunelleschi (1377 – April 15, 1446)
• was one of the foremost architects and engineers of the Italian Renaissance.
• most famous for inventing linear perspective and designing the dome of the Florence Cathedral
• his accomplishments included bronze artwork, architecture (churches and chapels, fortifications, a hospital, etc), mathematics, engineering (hydraulic machinery, clockwork mechanisms, theatrical machinery, etc) and even ship design.

Santa Maria del Fiore in Florence (1420-1446)

drawing board and a mirror to test his perspective drawing against the
actual view
Influences: The School of Athens, fresco, 1509-11 by the Italian Renaissance artist Raphael
Continue: Day 19 Today’s Goals
1. Following your teacher’s demonstration and guidelines you will portray your understanding of both one and two point perspective
2. You will need your sketch book, a ruler and pencil
TWO-POINT PERSPECTIVE
Day 20 Bell stART ELEMENTS of DESIGN
Write in your sketch book:
Linear Perspective drawing must include:
• CITY STREETS OR INTERIOR ROOM• Use pencil and ruler• Use one-point or two-point perspective• Draw picture plane-- ½” from edge of paper• 7 large (believable) objects or buildings• Multiple Details-- windows, doors, floor cover, etc.• A sign of life--human, animal, vegetation
Day 21 Bell stART ELEMENTS of DESIGN
Write in your sketch book:
• Artists use one-point perspective to show forms face-on.
• Two-point perspective is useful to show an angle
Your Linear Perspective drawing of a city or interior space is due at the beginning of class on: Monday, 9/16 or Tuesday 9/17
