Music was very important to the people during the Renaissance time.

There were two main types of music, church music “sacred music” and then there was non church music “secular music”.

Folk music was also played but it was very common and most often improvise and not written down.

Some music was performed for the higher class.

Being enthusiastic brought the piece of work alive.

Many poems were changed into songs.

Love poems and songs were the most popular during the Renaissance time.

Poems out lived the Renaissance time period.

Like poems songs were played with rhythm and rhyme.

Mozart could perform many amazing musical tricks such as sight reading and improvising.

Mozart was very busy performing his beautiful works and teaching new compositions.

Brahms was a German composer and pianist.

He loved to write romantic music pieces.

Beethoven was a deaf man who loved music and could not stand to be away.

He himself composed many different beautiful songs.

Bach improvised beautiful music on the organ.

He surprised many people with his talents.

Songs became very popular and started to encourage dancing.

There were some songs that were just strictly for dancing.

When there was dancing going on it encouraged many new and different forms of instruments.

Bulky clothes at this time made it hard to move the upper body for dancing.

Women wore corsets and men and tight lacing of the upper body.

Dancing was a fun elegant exercise.

Educated people were expected to know how to dance many dances.

Simple dances were often performed in chains and circles.

Branle was a dance you move from side to side.

Branle was much like folk dancing.

The Paven is a simple learning dance that consists of double and single steps.

The Gilliard can be performed solo or in couples.

It is very up beat and has many jumps hops and turns.

Allemande is a dance that is danced in double time and consists of two doubles and one single.

One of the most important parts of dancing was the fast footwork.

Lots of practicing was required for difficult dancing.

Complex dances were often performed for an audience.

Although difficult dances were a great accomplishment, the dances that people loved were the improvised fun dances.
