We are delighted that Abby Johnson will be our speaker for the evening. Abby Johnson has always had a fierce determination to help women in need. It was this desire that both led Abby to a career with Planned Parenthood, our nation’s largest abortion provider, and caused her to flee the organization and become an outspoken advocate for the pro-life movement. During her eight years with Planned Parenthood, Abby quickly rose in the or- ganization’s ranks and She became a clinic director. She was increasingly disturbed by what she witnessed. Abortion was a product Planned Parenthood was selling, not an unfortunate necessity that they fought to decrease. All of that changed on September 26, 2009 when Abby was asked to assist with an ultrasound-guided abortion. She watched in horror as a 13 week baby fought, and ultimately lost, its life at the hand of the abortionist. At that moment, the full realization of what abortion was and what she had dedicated her life to washed over Abby and a dramatic trans- formation took place. Desperate and confused, Abby sought help from a local pro-life group. She swore that she would begin to advocate for life in the womb and expose abortion for what it truly is. She is a frequently requested guest on Fox News and a variety of other shows and the author of the nationally best- selling book, Unplanned, which chronicles both her experiences within Planned Parenthood and her dramatic exit. A copy of Unplanned will be given to each table host. In 2006 at a women’s retreat, God brought Deleana to her knees. She heard these words from the guest speaker: “If you have had an abortion in your past and need to talk, I’m here.” Deleana went to her, whispered through tears, and started on a path that brought her to Options 360 Pregnancy Clinic in Vancouver, Washington. Deleana volun-teered for a year and a half and was asked to become the full-time Development Director. It is her passion that every young woman knows truth and every baby have a birthday. As the Development Director at Options 360 Pregnancy Clinic, Deleana spoke at many events throughout Clark County, educating the public about the work of pregnancy resource centers and the pro-life community. In June of 2012 she moved to Grant County and contacted the center in Ephrata about volunteer opportunities. She stepped in to plan, develop and orchestrate our first banquet for Crossroads Pregnancy Resource Center of Ephrata in April. This banquet was a testimony to the faithfulness and provision of our Father. Our board has asked her to accept the position of Development Director of Crossroads Pregnancy Resource Center of Moses Lake and Ephrata. She is busy now visit-ing our communities talking about our upcoming banquet in Moses Lake on October 26th. We are in need of table sponsors and table hosts for this event.. We welcome her and we know that as she goes out in the community

to represent us, you will welcome her as well. She can be contacted at [email protected]. n

For the past three years the Mommy’s Day Out, designed specifi cally for our moms in our Earn While You Learn Parenting Program, has always been a yearly fall event. Th is special aft ernoon is fi lled with games, door prize drawings, food and lots of support from other moms with babies. It has been such an enjoyable day that moms have asked to have it more than once a year! So we had one recently on July 16, 2013. It is our hope to have another Mommy’s Day Out before the end of the year. n

Breastfeeding Event

On August 6, 2013, Crossroads Pregnancy Resource Center was invited by the local Women Infants and Children (WIC) agency to come show our support and encouragement for National Breastfeeding Day. This is another way that

Crossroads is educating our community’s awareness of who we are and what “free” services we provide. n

The ladies had a fun time with a game we planned. They were asked to guess the prices of baby items that we had in a basket. They had to total the amount and the ones closest to the correct total were able to choose from a quilt or crocheted blanket or gift basket. The pic-tures below show some happy winners.

Serve Moses Lake ‘Back 2 School’ Event

Saturday, August 24th we participated in the second Back-2-School event sponsored by Serve Moses Lake. It was a delightf ul, fun, rewarding day! We had a litt le Baseball/Bean Toss game which drew the att ention of the kids. Th is gave us an opportunity to talk to the moms and women about Crossroads and the services we off er. As we get out and about in the community we always fi nd people who were unaware of our services. Th is day was no exception. We were happy to be there. n

June 18th was a beautiful day and there was a great turnout for the Knights of Columbus 14th Annual Charity Golf Tournament.

A huge thanks to Dennis and Kathy Ahman and Mark Krcma who planned and orchestrated the entire event.

We are grateful for the sponsors and golfers who participated and made it possible for the Knights to give each center , Moses Lake and Ephrata a check for $5,534.50 n

Golf Tournament Baby Bottle Fundraiser

Th e Lord seems to have many ways to meet the needs here at Crossroads. Th e Baby Bott le Boomerang is one of the av-enues He uses.

We are so grateful for all of the participants from many dif-ferent churches. Our total this year was $7,044.55.We would like to institute a new plan for next year. It seems that Mother’s Day to Father’s Day was not the best time for some so we would like to allow the churches to choose the month that would fi t them the best.

We are looking forward to talking with the churches about this. n

Crossroads Pregnancy Resource Center of Ephrata

Upon Stepping inside the door of the newly renovated Crossroads Pregnancy Resource Center in Ephrata you are apt to be greeted by a dedicated volunteer as has been the way since the doors to this ministry were opened in 1984 under the name Birthright. The ministry itself remained unchanged; that is until April of this year when the Holy Spirit worked in miraculous ways to transition us to become a satellite office of the Moses Lake Crossroads office! We are grateful for the financial and prayerful support of indi-viduals, local churches and many VOLUNTEERS who have staffed the office over the years. Many have received love, care and support in their time of need!

We are currently blessed with ladies who have felt a call to this ministry upon retirement from their “paying jobs” and work together new Center Director, Lynn Stecker

who worked the past 24 years at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. There are not enough words to describe the efforts and hard work put in by our veteran volunteers; Marylin Berschauer, Barbara Cherf, Bernie Geffre and Sandra Zei-gler, alongside new volunteer Diane Ratigan who recently retired from a long career with the Ephrata School District.

We are pleased that in a few weeks Bobbi Crawford will also be joining us! These ladies bring a plethora of talents to the ministry from their work operating successful busi-nesses, working in an office setting, or serving as teachers or nurses in the local area. They worship at either the First Bap-tist Church or St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Ephrata. It is our ongoing prayer that others will feel called to come join us in this very worthy ministry here in Ephrata! n

PARENTING CLASSES for first-time parents began at our center this past May. Since that time we have had 7 partici-pants coming to us from the communities of Ephrata, Soap Lake, Wilson Creek and Quincy. They are so pleased to learn that this program is now offered at our Center!

They have been conscientious in their studies and are ex-cited to learn as much as possible about being new parents before their newborn arrives. It has been so fun to witness graduation day when they finish their studies and get to “shop” in our newly completed Baby Boutique. Bigger items of a car seat and a pack and play have been chosen along with numerous items chosen from the Boutique. It is beautiful to watch the bond that forms between the students and their volunteer counselors and the anticipation as they await each new little gift from God!

There has been sadness and many prayers as one of young mothers lost the baby she was carrying. We have experi-enced joy with the birth of two boys and one girl who have already arrived and within the next week two more little boys will join the world! We are truly blessed! n
