A HSE recognised First Aid course is also necessary in order to apply for the SIA Licence and

this is conducted immediately after the CPO course. Duration 2 days

The course comprises of 10 twelve hour days and 2 fifteen hour days a total of 150 hours. By the

nature of the job the course is designed to challenge the student in a State of the Art, controlled and

enjoyable environment.

The course results in a B-TEC Level 3 Diploma in Close Protection & Operations, awarded by

Edexcel. The course enables candidates to apply for the following licence:

SIA Key holders Licence

SIA Man Guarding License level 2 qualification

SIA Door Supervisors License level 2 qualification

SIA Close Protection Operative License (BTEC Level 3 Diploma)

How does the course work?

The learning development route is based on the required 150 hours and takes the following general

format:

Part 1 – Practical and Theory Phase – Comprises of 10 Days practical assessments, at this point

the candidates will be reminded and revised in what they have learnt with live scenarios and roll

plays on Close Protection Operations, totalling 120 hours.

Part 2 – Team Exercise – Two fifteen hour operations which will bring in to account all of the

lessons learned and practical exercises, resulting in a course debrief, totalling 30 hours. These

exercises will be fully supervised by all instructors involved during the course.

Michael Dundon;

Michael has spent 25 years in the military 13 of these where with a Special

Forces unit. He has being the personal protection to a senior United Nations

General. Since leaving the armed forces he has provided protection from

Ceo’s of corporate multi nationals to an ex US vice president. Michael has

being instructing for over twenty years and holds a diploma in education and

training with the National University Ireland Galway, Michael is also the

director of business at CRMS…

Christopher Robinson;

Martin Byrne;

Martin is a qualified front-line field operative and qualified specialist

instructor in close protection and operations, he has over 20 years industry

experience and has worked abroad in the USA, Middle-East and Europe.

Martin has provided protection to some of the biggest names in the world

within the entertainment and private sectors. Martin currently oversees the

running and implementation of several contracts along with his two other

partners. Due to Confidentiality Agreements in place these cannot be printed,

Martin is also the director of operations at CRMS…

Frequently Asked Questions

Q – What investment is involved in the training cost?

A - All fees are inclusive; there are no hidden extras. The full 14 day course fee is €1650.00… This

includes all training, examination, exercises, equipment, certification, and transport during the

course.

First Aid; This is a two day course resulting in a three year HSE first aid certificate, the fee is

€150.00 and includes certificate.

Optional Course to enhance your qualifications within the Close Protection industry…

Dealing with Conflict & Physical threats; This is a full three day course and the fee is €350.00

(see other courses)

Pistol Proficiency; This is a full three day course, one day class room and theory and two days on

the range, the fee is €500.00 (see other courses)

Q - Can I pay for the course by instalments?

A - Yes, however there is a deposit of €500.00 required before you partake on the course. The

remainder must be paid within three months of completion; a valid contract will be drawn up to this

effect. (Only applies to Close Protection Course)

Q - Is there a grant available for this course?

A - There may be a grant available from your local FAS or government employment/ training

organisation.

Q - Do you accept civilians for training (with no military, Garda or police training and

experience)?

A – Yes, some of the best Operatives we have trained, and served with, have been civilians that we

have trained. Those with no previous military or police experience often come with no preconceived

ideas and so are open to training and development. Each applicant for training will receive individual

attention during the assessment process, and all applications will be treated on their individual merit.

Q - Do you guarantee employment for graduates from your training courses?

A - No, there are no training providers who can honestly guarantee employment after training.

If you choose to apply and then attend our course, we suggest the following packing list:

One Suit - (we suggest at least 1 jacket and 2 pairs trousers.

Smart Jacket - (overcoat / can be worn over the top of suit to protect in bad weather)

Shirts - (we suggest neutral colours, white, cream, light blue) and Ties (neutral colours)

Belt for suit - (we suggest medium - not narrow) belt, suitable for attaching radio & other kit

Smart shoes - (we suggest rubber soled, non-slip). Outdoor shoes or boots (for walking estate,

working outside, wet weather etc)

Vests/t-shirts - for wearing between body armour and shirts (suggest plan white)

Casual trousers - (we suggest cargo pants, min 2, light colour) for wearing with team t-shirts.

Waterproof jacket, waterproof trousers, waterproof inset - for back pack, to protect changes of

clothes

Portable washing-kit - for personal hygiene.

Physical training clothing - (shorts, t-shirts, sweatshirts, training shoes, water bottle etc)

Washing items - as you wish, to include a towel

Small rucksack / day sack - (for keeping equipment, writing materials with you)

Warm clothing - (as you wish hooded tops, sweatshirts, fleece, jacket, hat, gloves etc)

Casual clothing - (as you wish for outside of training time). No offensive images

Underwear - we suggest pack so that you can change several times when on long duties

Dealing with Conflict & Physical Threats;

Aim of Course

This course is of a three day duration, it is designed to enable candidates acquire a range of skills,

knowledge and competencies in dealing with conflict, responding to physical threats and ultimately

physical attack. The specification is designed to address requirements in a range of workplace

environments where staff may be deemed to be at risk of physical attack.

The skills, knowledge and competencies within this specification focus on the candidates’ awareness

and the use of communication skills, leading to, as a last resort the application of breakaway

techniques in a self defence mode to reduce the risk of injury.

The course includes an optional section “Control and Restraint” for application in circumstances

where detaining persons by physical or mechanical restraint is deemed to be necessary.

There are only twelve Instructors qualified to teach this course, and three of those are with

CRMS.

Entry Requirements

To gain entry onto these courses using this specification, candidates must be at least aerobically fit.

Physical contact and physical activity are inherent within the course and successful completion of

practical skills demonstrations is mandatory.

Candidates are advised to consult their doctor if they are in any doubt as to their physical ability and

fitness level.

All candidates will be asked to sign declarations is respect of their abilities prior to taking part in a

course of study leading to the qualification.

The course language is English and candidates should have a good working knowledge of the

written and spoken English language. Due to the nature of subject matter all candidates must have

the ability to be effective communicators.

This course is unique amongst all other courses in Europe of this type because it is certified by

the Security Institute of Ireland and in the process for accreditation by INAB

Who are INAB?

The Irish National Accreditation Board (INAB) is the national body with responsibility for the

accreditation of certification bodies and inspection bodies. It provides accreditation in accordance

with the relevant European and International Organisation for Standardisation.

Co-operation by INAB with other accreditation bodies in Europe and globally through multilateral

agreements (MLAs), this means that certificates issued by INAB accredited organisations are

recognised internationally. Accreditation by INAB provides organisations and their customers with

confidence in the product or service being offered.

Pistol Proficiency;

This is a three-day course. This course includes the following;

SAFETY – SAFETY – SAFETY…

Pistols;

.22 And 9mm pistols are the focus of this course, breathing control, aiming methods and trigger

control.

Load, unload and making the pistol safe, stances to include standing, kneeling,

Day-one;

After day one there is a test on the above skills, if a student fails they will be offered the opportunity

to be retested a second failure will result in them not being allowed to continue with the course.

Day-two & Day-three;

There is live firing of a pistol involved; the range practices are dedicated to coaching and

marksmanship skills. The course cumulates with the student having to pass a recognised firing table;

failure to achieve the required score will result in failure of the course.

All successful students will receive a certificate from the US National Rifle Association (NRA)

in pistol proficiency.
