CRIME PREVENTION
What is a Crime?
• A crime is the commission or omission by a person having capacity of any act, which is either prohibited or compelled by law.

What is
Crime prevention is an act to be done in order that a crime would not happen.
How can we minimize Crime? it is through Crime Prevention that we can lessen the crimes in our society.
Take note of the following preventive measurements:
• Community Involvement:
1.Conscious collective effort to maintain peace and order n the neighborhood is far more effective than self or family oriented approach to crime prevention.
2.Good leadership and active participation of community members are vital.
3. Regular crime prevention meetings should be held to discuss the most common modus operandi of criminals and thieves, and the countermeasures against them.4. Resident volunteers, in groups of two or three, can walk the streets in designated areas at specific hours.
5. When a crime is in progress, volunteers should call “117”.6. A witness to an ongoing crime can alert neighbors by making noise or giving prearranged signals.7. If the Ronda group is small, only the leader of the volunteers should know the time and area of the neighborhood walk.
How to keep your family
1.Make sure you and your family know the general whereabouts of all members for the day. If possible create a schedule board on the kitchen where family members can post their schedules and destinations.
2. Instruct all the members not to entertain strangers on the gate or on the phone. Children should be especially trained not to converse with strangers on the phone. Transactions must be cone OUTSIDE the gate. This will prevent observation of your premises and household layout.
3. Teach your family and household help to verify the identity of phone callers before the identity of themselves.
4. NEVER give out information on the whereabouts of family members to just anyone on the phone. Call the police assistance if you repeatedly received anonymous phone calls.
5. A designated family member should be contacted in an emergency or if there are dubious characters at your door, phone. Put important numbers in a place where you can have easy access.
6. Be aware of phone swindlers that states that a family member has an accident and asks for cash and other valuables. Verify the family member first.
7. Household applicants should be asked for clearance and ID pictures. It would be better if they’re are recommended by a family member or friend.
How to keep the children SAFE
1.Advice children to refrain from playing/loitring in the roads outside your residence where they are highly vulnerable to abduction. Tell them also not to leave the house without telling you their destination and estimated arrival time.
2.Carefully “back-check” reference of anyone who intend to employ at your household.
3. Hiring a security guard for the street will greatly improve the security situation of your residence.
4. Teach your children not to talk to strangers.
5. Askthe children’s school to help provide security by not giving personal information on the children to anybody.
6. Insist to the persons authorized to pick up your children (service, yaya etc) your strict guidelines to ensure their safety.
7. Instruct the children how to call in “117” when strangers or suspicious persons hang around the house.
8. At night, keep the children’s room open so that unusual noise might be heard.
9. Keep the house well-lightened when leaving the children at home.
Pointers for Children:1.Don’t accept invitations or gifts
from strangers.2.Go straight home after classes.3.Report suspicious persons around
the school or house to someone in authority.
4.Make sure you are with someone when you watch a movie.
5.Inform your parents about your whereabouts and whom you are with.
6. Be wary of drugpushers. Report them immediately to authority.7. Always attend parties in GROUPS.8. Hard drinks and drugs poison body and mind. Avoid it.9. Smoking , drinking and gambling are vices which attracted bad elements. They are best avoided.10. keep your personal belongings safe before leaving dormitory/boarding houses.
11. Keep your books, equipment or tools in safe places like lockers.
12. avoid loitering in dark areas.
Do not fall to Cellphone Snatching
• Buy cellphones only from authorized dealers.
• Record your cellphone’s serial numbers after purchase.
• As much as possible, bring your cellphone only when you urgently need it.
• Always put your cellphone where it is not visible.
• Always walk in well-lighted places.
• Keep the bag containing your cellphone close to your body.
• Refrain using your cellphone in public places.
• Never lend your phone to strangers.
• Do not resist hold-up men or snatchers. Don’t panic.
• Do not leave your cellphones lying in a table, over a cabinet in public places.
• When going to groceries, don’t leave your cellphone on the baggage counter. Bring it with you.
What to do if your under threat.1. If there are suspicious sounds or shadows in your home, try to contact police quietly, so they will not know that you are aware of their presence.
2. If you are awakened by the intruders, you have several options. One, lie quietly to avoid attracting attention, hoping they will leave you undisturbed. Two, you may choose to open lights and make noise by moving around, thereby alarming them that you are awake, and scaring them to leave your home. If you are alone, you can speak loudly to an imaginary companion.
3 If the crime has been done when you arrived, don’t attempt to enter, because they may still be inside, go to your nearest neighbor and call police.4., Remain calm.5. Note all the pecularities and mannerisms of the robbers if you come face-to-face to them. Tattoo marks, speech, moles, etc. This will help the police to find them.6. Call police immediately.
How to avoid RAPE.
1.Be alert when you’re alone.2.Avoid walking alone.3.Stay out of vacant lots and buildings.4.Avoid shortcuts.5.Be discreet.6.Carry a shrill whistle.7.If someone is following you, walk in
streets with many people and bright streetlights.
8.Don’t accept rides from strangers.9.When arriving home by taxi or private
car, request to the driver to wait until you got inside.
How to save lives.
Love your neighbor as you love your self. – is one of the commandments of God in the New Testament. We can do this by saving lives of people by calling or texting 117 during emergencies, such as:
• Crimes • Accidents• Fires • Disaster• Road traffic hazards• Other safety concerns.
What is 117?It is the number to call when one needs a police, fire or medical, emergency situation.
It is the universal emergency number for the Philippines.
This should be only used in EMERGENCIES.
In every emergency, Don’t panic.
