COVID-19 Quick Configuration Guide

This guide provides basic instructions for setting up and configuring VOCSN. It includes initial settings that can be used and modified as needed to begin treatment of patients suffering from the symptoms associated with COVID-19.

These basic setup instructions are intended for use in an emergency response situation. In-depth clinical instructions are available online at VentecLife.com/VOCSNmanual.

1 CONNECT FILTER AND PATIENT CIRCUITThe example graphic below shows how to set up an Active circuit type.

Note: If there’s also an O2 tube with your circuit, connect it to the “O2” port under the bacterial filter. (You can still deliver oxygen without one.)

2 CONNECT EXTERNAL OXYGENConnect high-pressure or low-pressure oxygen to the back of VOCSN.

After connecting it, turn the oxygen source on.

3 CONNECT POWERPlug the power cord into an outlet and the power block. Then, plug the other end into the back of VOCSN and screw the connector clockwise.

4 POWER ONPress the On/Off button on the lower right side of VOCSN.

Note: VOCSN will emit a series of beeps and clicks as it starts up. These are normal.

5 SKIP THE PRE-USE TEST (FOR NOW)Press EXIT on the Pre-Use Test screen. You will run a Pre-Use Test in step 8, after configuring VOCSN.

6 CHANGE “UNLOCK REQUIRED?” TO “NO.”VOCSN default settings include a Clinician Access feature that will lock the device after 15 minutes. To prevent control settings from being locked while you are setting up and using VOCSN, turn this feature off.

VOCSN has four main navigation tabs - Home, Therapy, Monitors, and Menu.

a Press the Menu tab, and then select CLINICIAN ACCESS.

b Locate the device serial number on back of the device. It’s on a label on lower left, next to the SN symbol.

c Enter the last four digits of the serial number using the numeric pad on the touchscreen, and then press ACCEPT.

d Select DEVICE SETTINGS next. Scroll to UNLOCK REQUIRED?, press it to highlight it, and then press EDIT > in the right side of the blue banner.

e Change the control setting to NO, and then press ACCEPT.

f When done, press the < EXIT tab in the upper left hand

corner.

7 CONFIGURE VENTILATIONVOCSN has up to five Therapy buttons - Ventilation, Oxygen, Cough, Suction, and Nebulizer.

a Press the Therapy tab, Ventilation, and then SETTINGS & ALARMS.

b Use the tabs at the top of the Settings & Alarms screen to navigate between the three available presets.

c Press the Preset 2 tab. If Preset Enable, says Disabled next to it, press it to highlight it and then press EDIT > on the right side of the screen. Select Enable and then ACCEPT. Repeat this process for the Preset 3 tab.

d You are ready to configure Ventilation. To ensure you have access to all settings, set up ventilation using presets that are NOT active first. (At factory default settings, this means configuring Preset 2 and Preset 3 first.)

e To change a setting, scroll to the setting you would like to modify, press it to highlight it, and then press EDIT > on the right side of the blue banner. Enter the desired setting in the pop-up, and then press ACCEPT to confirm the change.

VOCSN. These presets are intended for delivery of invasive volume or pressure ventilation (through an endotracheal tube), or non-invasive ventilation (using a mask).

f When you are done configuring the inactive Presets (2 and 3), press < EXIT.

g To set the Preset 1 settings, you must first ensure it is no longer active. Press the START button below Preset 2 or 3. Then, highlight Preset 1 and press SETTINGS & ALARMS again. You may now fully configure the final Preset 1 settings.

h Once all desired presets are configured press < EXIT to view the main Ventilation therapy screen. Select the Preset you would like to use to deliver therapy to the patient, and then press the START button beneath it.

The settings shown on this page are designed to treat an average adult male experiencing the symptoms of COVID-19, through an endotracheal tube (invasive ventilation). If needed, a mask can also be used with the basic non-invasive ventilation settings shown.

Use and modify these basic COVID-19 starter settings as needed for the patient physiology and condition. Verify settings are appropriate for the patient before providing therapy.

8 CONFIGURE AND START OXYGENOxygen therapy also includes three configurable presets.

a Press the Therapy tab, OXYGEN or EXTERNAL OXYGEN, and then SETTINGS & ALARMS.

b Change Oxygen therapy settings the same way you changed Ventilation settings: Scroll to the control you would like to modify, select the control to highlight it, and then press EDIT >. Press ACCEPT to confirm your selection.

c The following oxygen settings are designed to treat an average adult experiencing the symptoms of COVID-19. Modify these basic starter settings as needed for the specific patient and condition and verify settings are appropriate for the patient before providing therapy.

d IMPORTANT: After configuration, you must press START under a preset to activate oxygen.

9 RUN A PRE-USE TESTPress the Menu tab, and then the PRE-USE TEST button.

Press NEXT, and then carefully follow the on-screen instructions.

You will be asked to perform actions with the patient circuit. When the Pre-Use Test passes, Ventilation (and Oxygen, if started) will begin automatically.

10 CONNECT PATIENTConnect the patient circuit to a flex tube, HME(F), and then the patient’s endotracheal tube.
