Results From Preliminary ResearchThe results that I got from my research is that students in sixth form don’t read a lot of magazines. I know this because in my results, 70% of the students said they don’t read magazine as they prefer to view other types of media. Although most of the sixth former said that they don’t read a lot of magazines, when asked “what types of magazines do you read most?”, 60% of the sixth formers said that they will prefer to read a sports magazines. This clearly shows that in my magazine, I should includes sports articles about football basketball and other popular sport to attract the interest. This is because this is by far sixth former best genre.

Excluding sports, another genre of magazines that sixth formers liked to read was music. 25% of the sixth former said that they will prefer to read article about music. This shows that I should included some article about music star, their new songs and life stories.

Another thing that I learnt from my research is that sixth formers spend 1 hour on average a week reading magazines. This shows that in my magazine, I should the information short, sharp and straight to the point because sixth former tend not to spent a lot of time reading. This also means that if I include a lot of information and lots of text, they might not read it because they don’t spend a lot of time reading magazines.

One piece of important information that I learnt was that 100% of the sixth former had no job of any kind. This means that I could include a article in the magazine about available jobs is different places. Also, sixth formers are is the social economical group E which means that they don’t earn what also explains why when I asked “how much do you spent on magazines in a week?” 75% of the sixth formers said “£2-£3”.

Magazine Evaluation Mast Head HeadlineThe masthead is positioned in a right place and is in a usable font. Also, the masthead relates to the sixth form because the sixth form that the cover is for is Harris Academy Greenwich.

PuffThe puff is also positioned in the right place however, it looks unprofessional as for the writing within the puff isn’t in the middle and also, it unclear to see and their a full in the puff.

Main image The quality of the image isn’t good at all. This is because on the edges, you can see some of the black bits from the other background were the picture is cut off from. Also, the picture wasn’t edited properly as for you can see the boy slits on his eyebrow. This make the image look unprofessional because the man in the image looks ruff and a bit scruffy.

Strap line The strap lines are all good and in the right place on the front cover. However, the colour that I chose was a bad decision because some of the strap line clashes will the background. For example, the “tips on how to write a perfect CV” clashes with the blue background.

TagThe meaning of the tags is good and meaningful as for it shows people what the magazine cover is about. Also, the colour of the tag (yellow) should man that it would stand out from the rest of the text but due to the multiple colours that I chose, the tag which is mean to stand out didn’t because it wasn’t contrasting the rest of the writing.

BarcodeThe barcode in this cover is positioned in the right place and is the right size.

SplashThe splash that I used on this cover is good because it urges the reader to read on(if it relate to them). However, just like the tag, the splash doesn’t stand out enough as for it clashes with the masthead and “Jack the man.”

FontThe fonts that I used was a bad chose because there are so many different front. This is bad because it doesn’t fit the normal conventions of a magazine. This is because if you use more than three front it make the cover look unprofessional because the words don’t math with each other.

Page 6: Course Work

Magazine Evaluation

Firstly , I put the masthead “HAGGIE” is bright red and capitals in order to allow it to stand out and to allow people to understand what the magazine is about which is about “Harris Academy Greenwich”.

Secondly in my magazine, I only used a maximum of three fonts because it wouldn’t meet the normal amount of fronts used in normal magazine covers. Also, using more than three fonts will cause the front cover to look untied and look rough.

Also, I decided to used the word “Superstar” as my tag because it makes the viewer want to have to read on as for they don’t know what exactly what talking about but for word “superstar” , they know that its good and will be interesting to read about.

As for the colour scheme, I decided to use three brighter colours (red , yellow and blue) to allow to the magazine front cover to stand out. I also chose to use bright colours because it will catch the attention of the viewer.

Before I chose the splash, I wanted to pick something that will make the viewers have to read on for them to retrieve more information so I decided to use the “Superstar”. I decided to chose this because the viewer wouldn't be to clear about what I'm talking about unless they read on.

When I was choosing my strapline, i went back onto my questionnaire so that I can see what the sixth former like from a magazine. For the answers that I retrieved from my questionnaire, I then formed straplines In which will interest the sixth formers in order for them to read.

Because my splash was “superstar” I decided to make the my splash and my puff relate. From this, I decided to make my puff a star with writing in the star.

Page 7: Course Work

To the original image that I had, I made some improves to it in order to make it more effective to view. Firstly, I went onto Photoshop in order for me to change the background of the photo. This is because I didn’t want to use a black background as I preferred a more brighter background like the blue one that I used instead of the black one that I used. This is because the blue and white background that I used would be more likely to catch the attention of a view as for it is more brighter.

Music Magazine

Page 9: Course Work

NME magazine is a music magazine that is aimed males of the ages of 17-30. 73% of the NME readers are male and the other 27% of the readers are females. The average age reader of the NME reader is people of the ages of 25.

Q magazine is a stylish music magazine that is aimed at males and females that are over the ages of 25. This is because the owner felt as if their categories of people needs wasn’t being met by other music magazine that was present at the time. Q magazine are aimed at people in the social economic group D (which are semi-skilled and unskilled manual workers.) & group E (casual labourers and unemployed.)

Audience

Vibe magazine is an music and entertainment magazine that Is aimed at 18 to 34 year old people. Vibe magazine is equally aimed at both male and female viewer and has article for both genders to enjoy. Vibe magazine is aimed at people in the social economical group E which are casual labourers and unemployed people. Especially people that are in that are unemployed.

Vibe magazine is aimed at young individuals that like to be part of something new instead of following old ways. Not only is Vibe aimed at people that like or listen to music, its also aimed at people that are into fashion and pop culture although Vibe is mostly known for RnB. This shows that Vibes isn’t just isn’t into one specific group of people although 75% of Vibes audience are Black/Africa American. Vibe audience also seen as the voice of urban music and culture.

Similarly to Vibe, my magazine will be aimed at mostly white and black people of both genders from the ages of 16-24. My magazine will be aimed at people in the social economical group C1-E which includes both working people and students but are a more aspirational group rather than the wealthy. It will be based around the urban city live which is why I’m choosing the economic group because they wouldn’t be working extremely long hours meaning they be more likely to have times on their hands meaning they will be able to easily create time for them to read.

My magazine will in include mostly R&B and urban musicians. Their will also be a large amount entertainment and will include some fashion which will mostly likely suit my young/young adults readers. My magazine audience want to set treat and new music rather than follow other people. Out of all of the magazines that I’ve analysed, Vibe is the closest to my one. This is because both of our magazine are about the urban live style and will mostly include the same artist and entertainment stories that will appeal to my audience.

Masthead – The colour of the masthead is black and its also in bold with an exclamation. The masthead is black and bold because it causes a contrast with the whitish grey background which makes the word stand out and is clear for us to see. The exclamation mark is use in the masthead to emphasise the word. when you look closely at the masthead, we see that the word has sharp, rough edges. This is used because it relate to the type of music that the magazine it promoting (rock) which is known for its uses of sharp objects i.e. Horns and others objects.

Colour choices - The colour choices that is use on the front page is red, black, white and a bit of yellow. The colour red is used often for the most important on the front page because it relate the viewers because it’s a rock magazine which it often relate to danger, violent and blood.

The puff – The shape of the puff is red splashed across the page. This has a little bit of violent to it has it look like blood droppings on the page. Also, the red splashing's in on a white background which ,makes it stand out from the rest of the page.

The main image - The main image is a image of a man in a boiler suit with gloves on which a clowns mask on. The effect of this image on the viewer is that it makes them fear slight scared especially as the man is looking directly at the view.

Page 17: Course Work

The Q magazine masthead is located at the top left of the page and is writing in big and bold writing which allows it to stand out from the text in the pages similarly to the NME which is also located at the top left of the page. However, unlike ‘Q’ magazine, the ‘NME’ masthead doesn’t really stand out from the other text as the colours clash with the splash and puff. Unlike NME and Q magazine, the masthead of Vibe magazine is placed at the top of the page in the middle. The masthead is also placed behind the main image which enables the letters “I” and “b” to be seen clearly. This is because Vibes knows that their audience will still be able to recognize a Vibes magazine then they see one so for this reason, they allow the main image to take front stage in order to attract more people to purchase the magazine.

The main image of Q magazine is a positioned in the centre and covers the hole page. The main image is of a popular female artist which is alsoalike with the NME magazine which also has a popular female artist. However, Q magazines main images doesn’t take up the hole front cover like the NME does. The image of Cheryl Cole in Q magazine in the rain with a finger in her mouth make her look seductive and attractive. Also, she is using a direct motive of address when he is looking at the camera which makes the viewer feel that they are being directly look at by her. Unlikely NME and Q, the Vibe magazine have the main image covering the Masthead. This may be because the Vibe magazine feels that the main image is their main attractive for people to buy the magazine so for that reason, they don’t want nothing to cover it or obstruct the view for anyone to not see.

The NME does have a supporting image on the front cover. This is probably because they feel “Florence” is a big enough attraction for their target market to buy the magazine so theirs no need to put another picture on magazine. This may also be the reason why the main image is so big, because a supporting image wasn’t going to use. Correspondingly with the NME magazine, Q didn’t also have a supporting image. This could also be because their feel Cheryl Cole is a large attraction for the magazines target market meaning a supporting image would be needed to use. Along with Q and NME magazine, the Vibe also didn’t have a supporting image. As well as Q and NME, the Vibe also didn’t have a supporting image. This clearly shows that big established magazine don’t tend to use supporting images as for they get the biggest and most famous people

meaning that a supporting image isn’t required.

Below, I am analysing the covers of three music magazines. Q and Vibe have similar target audiences to my magazine, whereas NME has a different target audience and will probably use a different set of conventions.

Page 18: Course Work

The straplines on Q magazine and NME are both placed at the left and right side of the magazine cover as expected to be because that is whatfits the normal magazine conventions . Unlike the NME magazine, the strapline of Q magazine anchors the image which has positive effect of the viewer. On of the positive effects that this has on the viewer Is that the viewer gets a better understanding for what is in the magazine whereas if the strapline didn’t anchor the image, it could be confusing as for it viewer because the strapline and image don’t connect or match which could also send mixed messages which will discourage people to purchase the magazine. However, unlike the straplines for NME and Q, the vibe has the names of other big names in the entertainment industry. For example, this particular Vibe magazine had people like “Chris Trucker” and “2Pac” as their strapline. This could be because they want to reach out to other people fan and not just Lil Wayne. So by them using other Entertainer as a strapline, they will attract more people to read their magazine.

The mode of address of the main image on Vibe is looking directly at the people that may purchase the magazine. The main image of Vibe is looking directly the people because it make the people feel that the artist is visually communicating at them. Along with Vibe, Q and NME also has the main image looking directly at the people.

In the Vibe Magazine, the Representation of the main image suits the magazine. This is because on the cover of the Vibe magazine, it has an R n B superstar with several tattoo. Considering that Vibes is an urban magazine, Lil Wayne fits the representation of the magazine. Similarly with Vibe, the covers star of NME represents and suits the magazine. This is because Florence is a top musical and NME is a music magazine. Also, NME is aimed at people at the ages from 17-30. and Florence is 27. This means that Florence suit the target market of NME and will appeal to them as they will be likely to know as she has had make tour, songs and live performances. As well as Vibe and NME, Q cover star also represents the magazine. This is because Q is a stylish magazine that has a target market of people that are over the ages of 25. This means that Cheryl Cole meets all criteria's because she’s a model and she’s known for that. Also, Q appeals to male of the ages 17-30 which are the ages of men are most likely to find Cheryl Cole the most attractive.

Mise En Scene: The lightening and colour of NME magazine bright. This is because it makes the magazine stand out to other magazine. However, the brightness of the NME magazine wasn’t ridiculously bright, but it was bright enough to stand out from the rest. Also, because the camera shot of Florence is a close up meaning that her hair will show and take up a lot of the background. Contrastingly to the NME magazine, Q and Vibe magazine had a darker background. The Clothing of Vibes magazine is very different to what people will normally wear. This could relate to the audience of Vibes magazine who be adventurous and be part of something new instead of following old ways.

Publication: The Barcode for NME and Vibe magazine are located at the bottom left and right. Unusually, their isn’t a barcode location on thefront page. However, on all three magazine covers, their isn’t a price positioned on the front page. This could be because there are very popular with millions of fans meaning they must be shore that their loyal customers will know the prices of their magazine which means that they don’t need to mention it on the magazine and take up unnecessary space on the cover.

Page 19: Course Work

Vibe Magazine Cover Analyse

This magazine cover shows Drake staring directly at the camera with an arrogant look with shows that he believes that he’s the best of them all and no one is better then him. This is strongly anchored by the main splash because it connotes that no one can stop him from doing what ever he want to be and when he want to do. The inclusion of the word “Unstoppable” makes the image more motivated because when you first look at the main image, it is not clear why Drake is looking so big-headed but when the main splash is seen, it becomes clearer to why he’s looking overconfident. In the main image of this magazine, the facial expression of Drake shows that he’s directly engaging with the audience.

The masthead of the magazine is in big bold capital letters and is located at the top of the page behind the main image. The letters of the masthead are bold because its shows that Vibes make big bold statements and also shows that what they are saying are true. Also, the fact that the main image is covering the two middle letters show that Vibe has a strong following because people can still recognize the magazine though half of the masthead are covered up. The background colour of the magazine is black with ever thing else being yellow and white. This fits the normal conventions of a magazine cover as for their aren’t many different colours everywhere. The black background colour allows the yellow and white word stand word incredibly which will make the audience more likely to see it.

In the middle of the page, the word “Exclusive” is writing in bold letter. This shows the readers that what they are reading can only be viewed on there magazine and no other magazine competitor has the information that they have to offer. Also, they also used the word “New” which also shows that they aren’t giving the reader old and already seen news.

The main image is going to be in the middle of the page. This will then mean that the main image is going to be surrounded by the masthead, straplines and other things on the cover.

The price and barcode of my music magazine will be located at the bottom right. This is because this is where most of the professional and well established magazine makers place their price and barcode and in order to try and make my music magazine look professional, I'm going to locate my price and barcode at the bottom right.

I’m going to put my mastheadat the top of the page because when people look at a magazine, the first place that they are likely to is at the top and I’ll want to see the masthead first so that they can recognize and identify that it my magazine. All some shelf, all people can see in a magazine is the top so it will be pointless for me to put the masthead at the bottom as for some people will be unable to see it.

The straplines are going to be positioned to the left and to the right of the main image. This is because some of the straplines are going to be linked to the main image so to create a effect, I going to put the straplines next to the main image.

Page 21: Course Work

The background colour of the contents page starts up at the top as black and gets lighter and lighter as the page goes down. This is an effective use of colours as for if the page was just fully black, grey or white, the hole page will look extremely dull and boring to look at. The colours of the background also suits the colour of the word ‘Contents’ as for the colour of that word is white. However, the background doesn’t just go from black to white, but it has a black stipe coming down the left side. This then form a greyish white colour in the middle.

The word ‘CONTENTS’ is writing in a bold bright writing and is contrasting the black background which makes the word stand out from the page. Also is broken down into three lines which makes it look stylish and also different to most of the other magazine contents page as for most of the other ones have ‘contents’ writing in a straight line. This make Vibes stand out from the rest of the different magazine because they are not copying what other magazine do but they are starting their own trend and flair.

When you look at the main image, there is a shadow where the legs are and on her head. The woman is also in the centre of the image which makes her look like she is on stage and the lights are shinning on her and she is also on stage.

Unlike other magazine, this content page doesn’t have the content of the magazine in a list but rather, it has it split into two section (fashion & features) to make it easier for the readers to navigate around the magazine.

Also, some of the text on this content page relates to the image as for the woman in the image is wearing some high which could be linked to the fashion side of the magazine. Also, she is wearing sparkly fashion assessors on her hand which could also related to the fashion side of the magazine.

Contents Page Evaluation

Page 22: Course Work

Second Contents Page EvaluationFirstly, the background colour is a plain creamy colour which automatically allow every other colour to stand out on the page especially the red parts on the page which is very familiar with Q magazine. Although the background is all plain, there are different shades of the creamy colour as for the left hand side is slightly brighter then the right hand side. This avoid the magazine content page from being to plain and dull.

The word ‘contents’ is positioned at the top of the page next to the word ’Q’ which is the first thing that you can see on the page as for it is in bright red at the top. The word ‘Content’ is in bold and capital letters and look very neat, and professional positioned their as they are all the word are all in place.

Similarly to Q magazines usually magazine colour, the person in the main image also has red hair which make the page look well integrated as for there is a touch of red on each side of the place.

On this content page, there are three supporting images with numbers to identity what page they are on in the magazine. This makes it easy for the viewers to navigate throw the magazine to the page that they want instead of looking throw the hole magazine for the page that they want.

The main image is going to be at in the centre of the page because I want the image to be centre of attention.

To the right of the pictures, I will say what will be included in the magazine. This is because my target audience would rather not read long paragraphs but instead, they’ll rather just read short sentences because it saves time.

To the left of the main image, I will include some of the most likely reasons why my target audience will purchase and read my magazine.

Giveawayitem

At the top of the page under the word “Content”, I will be including my giveaway for the month. I’m including a giveaway because base on my questionnaire, 60% of people care about free offers in a magazine. I will be placing my giveaway item under the word “Content” because the giveaway is what the people might be looking forward to the most so

Page 24: Course Work

Double Page Spread analysis The main image is of T.I takes up the hole of the first page because they want him to be the centre of attention and make him the first thing that the audience will see when they look at the pages.

The background is just plain white which makes all the coloured and everything else on the page stand out more and easier for people to see.

Unlucky the most the page, the puff is of a bright colour which makes the page look better as for it not all dull because there are some bright colours to balance it out. Also, due to the colour, it make it easier for the reader to spot it and for them to read it clearly.

The title “summer TIME” has the words “T.I” in it so smartly, the creators of the page played upon the words to have two meanings. One meaning “summer time” and the other meaning is intelligently telling the audience the name of the man standing next to the title.

The columns are squashed down at the bottom of the page in one paragraph and two other columns next to each other. This could be because their target audience wouldn’t be to interested in reading large amounts of text but their rather has pictures to look at.

Page 25: Course Work

Second Double Page Spread analysis

The background of this double page spread is white which allows everything like the images, writings and other coloured parts show clearer as for the background isn’t clashing with it.

However, their two different shades of white – a lighter one and a slightly darker one- this is so that the background doesn’t look to dull. With the two different colours of white as the background, it allows all the writings, pictures and other to be clear as well not making the page too plain and unattractive to look at.

The main image is located on the second page at the top with the text placed around the image. This could to split up the long writing because people might not be interested in reading hundreds of words but by having the main image their, it divides all of the text. Also, the man in the main image has his hands around his chin like he’s posing to be cool. This could be to show the audience that their magazine is cool to read.

On the first page, there is a supporting image of a man called “ADAM ANT” . This is to give the audience a chose because some people might not like to read the content about the main image so by having and supporting image it give some the audience another other.

The heading is in bold and capitalised which makes it stand out more as for its located at the top of the page. Also, it draw attention as for its under a quote and after reading the quote, you’re likely to want to know who said it.

The text box links to the main image as its talking about the mans story. The colour of the text box is red rather than white because it will look too dull. The red text box also makes the page look stylish as for it fits the colour code of the rest of the page which is either red, black or white.

The Columns on the page are neatly positioned in lines throw across the page. This makes the page look professional as for the words aren’t scattered all over the page but their placed in line which each other.

As well as the heading, the quote is also in bold and capitalised. This is so that it draws attention first. Also the quote is a teaser as for it says “NOBODY COULD HAVE STOPPED ME”. This is a teaser because it doesn’t say or give a lot of information for the reader which forces them to read on if they find the article interesting.

Because there is a lot of writing some people may not no were to start off but writing the first letter in extremely big writing, it allows the reader to know were to start. This also makes it clearer for the reader.

VOLTS

Planning My Masthead

VOLTZI wanted to use a the word “VOLTS” as my masthead because firstly, it is easy to pronouns and also have a go sound to it. This is because when you think of volts you also think of electric shock which is why I chosen volts because Its saying that the information and news that we bring will shock and surprise the viewers. However, I was think of spelling the word “VOLTS” with a “z” rather then a “s” because my magazine is aimed at an urban community and they’ll understand the spelling error. However, it could also be off putting because people my think that the magazine may be aimed at children and young teenagers only because when teenagers text each other, they tend to shorten words on purpose and incorrectly spell word. This could discourage them to purchase the magazine as for they will think that the magazine is not aimed at them. Whereas with “VOLTS” its spelt correctly, the word play on the masthead is still their and people wouldn’t thing that the magazine is aim at children and young because the spelling is correct and it look good.

Page 28: Course Work

Planning The Masthead

VOLTS Basic San Heavy SF

VOLTS Calibri

VOLTS Castellar

When I was designing my masthead, these were the designs that I wanted to go for. My first idea was to go with something that is big, bold and simple like “Basic San Heavy SF” or “Calibri” as for it will stand out at the top of the page rather than using a thin text with will wouldn’t draw as much attention to my magazine. On the other hand, I was also thinking of going for something a bit more stylish like “Castellar “ however, a disadvantage is that it may not appeal to my target audience as for it may come across as being to posh with is the total opposite of the target audience. Between “Basic San Heavy SF” and “Calibri” I was feeling more to go with “Basic San Heavy SF” as for it is more likely to can the attention of a view because of the thinness of the text. Additionally, the words are also more packed together than “Calibri” meaning that it allowed extra space for me to include more thing on the page.

Planning The Straplines

WIRELESS FESTIVAL

TINIE TEMPAH GIGGSA.DOT

SKEPTA

This strapline will be positioned at the right side of the page next to the main image. The strapline will say “WIRELESS FESTIVAL”. This is because my target audience are young and someone of them are students meaning they will probably be interested in parting and going to music festival. For this reason, I have included “WIRELESS FESTIVAL” right next to the main image so people would be more likely to see it as for the main image is what they’ll be more likely to look at first on the magazine front cover. Additionally, I also wrote it in bold and capital letter as for it will also make it easier for a passer by to see.

Under the “WIRELESS FESTIVAL”, I included a list of some of the artists and musicians that will be performing at the festival which included Tinie Tempah, Giggs, Wiley and Skepta. I selected these names specifically because it will be the names that my targets audiences will be more likely to what to see as for these names are some of the biggest names in the urban world as well as in mainstream music world. I also chose their names rather then bigger and more successful artist and Cheryl Cole or Gary Barlow because my target may not be interested in their types of music genres meaning that they wouldn’t be interested or attracted my the names. Additionally, I included males and a female because my target audience isn’t just male so to also attract a female audience, I also included a well known female that my target audience will be likely to known.

Furthermore, to make this strapline look more appealing for the viewers, i didn’t make all of the names of the artists that I included the same colour. I made “TINIE TEMPAH” white then “GIGGS” black and repeated that pattern for “A.DOT” and “SKEPTA”. This made thestrapline more appealing because all of the writing wasn’t the same colour meaning that the strapline didn’t look as plain and boring to look. Also, I added a grey transparent box in front of the names to also make the names look less plain and also stand out more as for the grey was matching the blazer and other grey parts on the cover page.

Planning The Strapline

INTERVIEW FROM

JAY Z

50

CENTON HIS

COMEBACK“It’s just determination y’know…”

This strapline is going to be positioned on left hand side of the page. I used these straplines because “50 CENT” AND “JAY Z” are the biggest names in the urban music scene and my target audiences will known them and their names on the magazine which will catch their eyes.

With the strapline, I didn’t make everything in line and straight pattern as for I will look to nit and tired. So in order to create a more rough look for the cover, I put the “EXCLUSIVE” part of the strapline at a different angle to the rest of the strapline.

Representation of cover star

For my cover star, I will be concentrating on the costume and the direct mod of address to the viewer. I will want my image to look similar to this picture of 50 Cent Because their will be dress in the same clothing which will be a suit because it shows that success and that you’re an important person. Additionally, I will also have my cover star to look directly into the camera with nothing but a straight face because it will create a scene of determinate which also links to on of strapline. I’ll also want my cover star to look directly into the camera because it will create a sense to the viewer that he is looking at them directly. I will have a mid shot my cover star standing up straight with each hand on one side of their opened blazer which will present my cover start an successful ”Rap” or “RnB” because these are the looks that are mostly have connotations with successful rap or RnB artists.

All of this along with the straplines included will create a sense of a music magazine because the strapline includes other music artist and will anchor the image.

These where some of the images that I’ve taken with my camera. As you can see, all of them have been taken with a white background which is because this will my picture a more profession look. In all of the picture, my cover star was wearing a suit because I already knew the genre of music that my magazine was about.

Direct mode of address

For my cover star, I thought it was very important for him have direct mode of address. This is because it would make the view feel more involved and also connected as for the cover star is looking directly into their eyes.

Costume

I chose a picture with a suit because it shows that he’s an important person which will suit my target audience because they’ll want to be like an successful person rather than unsuccessful.

Body status

The body status of my cover star look like someone that has a purpose and someone that has accomplished something.

Choosing an ImagesFront Cover

This was the image that I choose to use for the front cover of my magazine. The reason that I choose this image was because firstly, he’s looking directly at the camera with a determined face meaning I will be able to anchor strapline to the image.

Comparison of images

Original Image After

This image was taking using a professional camera whiles using a white background because it make the picture look better and also easier to cut out the background when I needed to. After this, I then used the “Quick Select Tool” and “Magical Wand Tool” on Photoshop to select and cut out the part of the images that I didn’t want leaving the main to move onto a different background for a better effect. After playing around will the main image, I decided a mid shot will because then the hole image because you can see the “Determination” on his face. Also, it would look more professional because it made the picture more clearly and additionally, most other magazine similar to my one didn’t use long shots.

Another improvement that I made to the original image is that I added a drop shadow to the image. This made the image better because it made the image stand out and prevented it from clashing with the image.

Original Photo Edited Photo

These two pictures where the pictures that I used for my contents page. The first image was my main image an will be located at the top of the page. In order to improve how the image looked like, I decided to change the brightness and contrast of the image to improve how the image look like. Additionally, in order to get the image transparent so I could move to another background, I cut of the background using the quick select and magic wand tool. The second picture is of a different person as for I just didn’t want pictures of the same person. The second picture is a bit more stylish than the first one.

Images of the double page spread

These where the images that I used for my double page spread. None of the image that I use where edited. This is because the background of my double page spread was black meaning that I didn’t to increase the brightness of the picture to make it standout more as for everything on the page would already stand out due to the dark background. The first will take up 1/3 of the page whiles the second image will be used as supporting image at the bottom right with the text wrapped around it.
