Connex Spot Monitor (CSM) can be mounted on one of three mobile stands:

1. MS3 Classic Mobile Stand

2. APM Mobile Stand

3. MWS Stand

NIBP: Technology

With a two-lumen BP hose, the CSM utilizes SureBP® Technology

• SureBP® captures BP on cuff inflation– Reading takes approx. 15 seconds!

– Reverts to Step Deflation method (BP on cuff deflation):• In times of extreme movement• Artifact• Neonate mode• If programmed to do so via Advanced Settings

NIBP: Proper Technique

Cuff on bare arm

Align Artery Index Marker with brachial artery

Properly sized cuff

No more than two fingers between cuff and arm

Allow patient to sit quietly for a few minutes

Back supported, legs uncrossed

Arm supported at heart level

Patient sitting quietly and not moving

• Intervals symbol now displays count-down until next scheduled NIBP

• Automatically acquired VS save to Review Tab

• Taking extra sets of vitals does not alter intervals schedule

Clean sensor (use alcohol pad)

Warm, perfused extremity

No nail polish or artificial nails

Placement on opposite extremity of NIBP cuff

For persons wearing hearing aids or in extreme ambient temperatures, remove the hearing aid or the individual from the situation and wait 20 minutes prior to taking a temperature.

The following external factors may influence ear temperatures:

Used probe cover

Wet/dirty/damaged lens

Lying on a pillow

Hearing aid*

The following external factors DO NOT influence ear temperatures:

Ambient temperature

Moderate cerumen (ear wax)

Otitis media (ear infection)

Tympanostomy tubes

Complete ear canal occlusion due to cerumen (ear wax) can result in lower temperature readings

Use untreated ear if ear drops/medications have been placed in ear canal

The following are contraindications to the use of tympanic thermometry:

Patient exhibiting symptoms of chronic or acute inflammatory condition of external ear canal

Certain facial or ear deformities

Blood/drainage in external ear canal

1. Pull probe from well, apply Welch Allyn probe cover

2. Ensure Oral mode displayed

5. Press top of probe to release cover, then return probe to well

Axillary Temperature:1. Pull probe from well, apply

Welch Allyn probe cover

2. Press Mode twice to select Adult Axillary

3. Place probe vertically in axilla against bare skin

– Think: “Align with the spine”

4. Thermometer will beep when reading complete (12-15 sec)

5. Press top of probe to release cover, then return probe to well

Rectal Temperature:

1. Insert red probe and well into device

2. Pull probe from well, apply Welch Allyn probe cover

3. If needed, apply small amount of lubrication

4. Place probe 3/8” into rectum

– Insert to line on tip of thermometer for adults, less for peds.

5. Thermometer will beep when reading complete (10-15 sec)

6. Press top of probe to release cover, then return probe to well

2. Touch number to be changed and type in desired alarm limit, then press OK• Arrows may also be

used to make incremental changes

3. Touch to turn on/off alarm*• While off, no visual or

audible alarm signals will occur for that parameter

4. Press Home tab when complete to return to Home screen and confirm changes

• Higher and lower alarm parameters displayed on Home screen when using Intervals profile only.

*Note: Ability to turn on/off alarms dependent upon facility’s chosen settings

Alarm Management: Silencing Alarms

To silence an alarm:• Touch the triangle once or touch the highlighted parameter to silence for

one minute– Depending on facility’s settings, tapping the triangle twice will silence

it for longer than one minute

• Alarm will disappear when patient condition resolved or alarm limit adjusted accordingly

1. Take all desired VS

2. Press and hold a particular vital signs tileEx. Press and hold NIBP to enter blood pressure modifiers, such as patient position or cuff site

• Individual parameter modifiers screen displays:

– keypad for manual entry (if applicable) on the left • Utilized when another method or device is used to obtain VS

– options for extra information that adds to, or “modifies” that specific VS on the right

• Availability of modifiers depends on the facility’s chosen configurations

To Manually Enter VS and/or Enter Modifiers:

1. To manually enter a VS, touch text box and type in desired value.

2. To manually enter modifiers:

a. Touch text boxesto type in numeric value)

b. Touch dropdown menus to select appropriate choice • Shown: Type of BP device –

Wrist, Manual, Automatic, Other

c. Use side scroll bar to view additional modifiers (if applicable)

3. Press OK to confirm return to Home screen

After required parameters and other desired information entered:

1. Touch manual parameter ribbon

2. Enter desired information

3. Press OK to return to Home screen

• Additional parameters include extra information that may be entered, but do not specifically relate to one of the four VS taken on the CSM

• Available parameters depend on facility’s chosen configuration

• An asterisk (*) beside a manual parameter indicates it is required by the facility

Calculating EWS:

1. After all VS taken and Manual Parameters/ Modifiers entered, press EWS button (*if applicable)

• Calculate Early Warning Scores at point-of-care using CSM

• Scoring system customized by facility

• Clinician chooses one of up to three different protocols per set of vitals taken

• Note: EWS only available in Spot and Intervals Profiles

• Review tab holds up to 400 sets of vitals for 24 hours– Can view multiple patients or single patient

• Displays Date/Time and vitals saved

• If CSM connected to Electronic Medical Record (EMR), and patient armband scanned, patient name or ID number will display under Patient column (depending on facility’s chosen settings)
