Ms. Groce

Mrs.

Jackson

By Tamera Jones Ms. Debra Jackson, Business/Marketing Education teacher, will be re-

tiring after thirty-one years of teaching—nine years at Loachapoka High and

22 years Beauregard High. Ms. Jackson has been at a part of Beauregard al-most entire life; she is an alumni of BHS and started in grade school here in

1963 when the old gym and cafeteria were the only buildings on the top of the

hill. While a student at BHS, Ms. Jackson was a cheerleader and played recrea-

tional softball, as well as being very active in the clubs that were at the school.

Mrs. Jackson graduated from Auburn University and earned two bach-

elor’s degrees and one master’s degree. When asked why she was retiring, she

replied, “You just know when it’s your time.”

Mrs. Jackson says that her favorite memories from teaching at BHS

would have to be being a part of such a big family, having fun times with co-

workers, and watching students grow, mature and succeed in their careers.

BHS faculty and staff welcome retirement

Ms. Rebecca Groce will be retiring

after ten years of working in the lunch-

room and seven years of substituting.

By Brittany Johnson

After 28 years at Beauregard High School, Mrs. Pam Ledbetter will be retiring this year. Mrs. Ledbetter began working at Beauregard as a bus driver in 1986, and began substituting in 1988. In 2000, Mrs. Ledbetter stopped driving buses and substituting to work in the library as an aide.

“I could have retired after 25 years, but I just didn’t quite feel like I should. My husband retired almost four years ago and I just think that it is time (the right time),” Mrs. Ledbetter said. Mrs. Ledbetter will be greatly missed, but she has said she will more than

likely be a substitute again if needed. She would like to leave her fellow staff with a

final message : “I want to let the staff know that I have enjoyed working with them

for the past years; some I worked with longer and some I worked with less. I think

they all are special people that the students have really benefited from having

them in their lives. I love each and every one of them. I want to thank Mr. Brown

and to let him know that he was a great principal to work under, and I appreciate

everything he has done for me over the years.” Mrs. Ledbetter

The upcoming freshmen from Sanford Middle School visited Beaure-

gard High School on March 12, 2014, for an orientation session about cred-

its and extracurricular activities. The BHS choir also performed before the

Belles and Beaus led the current 8th

graders throughout the school, show-

ing them different halls and class loca-

tions. At the end of the tour, each stu-

dent received registration information

for next year.

On May 3, 2014, Senora Ahmed and members of the BHS Spanish Club visited the residents at North Ridge Assistant Living. Besides giving the residents small gifts, club mem-bers sang songs including “Amazing Grace” and “You Are My Sunshine” with the residents.

BHS offers credit recovery classes this summer By Alexandra Beckwith

If you are a student that failed to receive a credit

in an academic class this year, there is a chance to

recover it this summer. “[Credit recovery] is an op-

portunity for students to recoup, regain, or recover

a class instead of retaking the class,” said Ms.

Spivey, who will be in charge of the program this

summer.

Instead of the typical summer school classes on

campus, online credit recovery classes will be avail-

able in Ms. Spivey’s classroom from June 2nd

to

June 27th

from 7:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. The only

classes that will be available during the summer

credit recovery session are the four core academic

classes; electives will not be available. Students can

take up to two courses this summer for a fee of

$200.00 per course.

Course fees must be

paid in full by the first

day of class.

Please see Ms.

Spivey or one of the

counselors if you have

any questions.

Senior Words Of Wisdom

“There were many things I learned throughout my years at Beauregard. I came to this community in the fifth grade after being bullied at my old school. It was scary at first, not knowing anyone but my cousin and my friend from preschool, but I held my chin up high and tried to be as brave as possible. Over time I made friends who helped me feel welcome and just as good as everyone else. Knowing how hard it was to be bullied and alone, I would befriend everyone I could who looked left out over the years. I wanted to be a lot of things, but what I wanted to be most of all was an inspiration to others. Some of my friends didn't like who I would talk to or sit with at lunch, but I didn't care. I didn't want to be with specific people. I didn't want to sit with the popular kids. We may not look or act the same, but we are all human. I didn't care what people looked like because those who mind don't matter, and those who matter don't mind. Never be scared to be who you are; it doesn't matter what oth-ers say—you won't remember them in five years. Don't let their words hurt you. You are always worth it, you are never alone, and you are loved. Do what makes you happy, kill with kindness, and never judge a book by its cover. Always love, never get attached, be a role model to others, and NEVER forget who you really are. High school isn't everything, so don't follow everyone else's standards. Use your common sense. Don't put people down because they aren't like you. You aren't better than them. So here's to you, underclassmen. Good luck out there. To those of you I know, I hope I inspired you, and continue being awesome. Stay rad, be happy, and never, ever, settle.” - Averi Cofield

for your future.” – Manie Luangphasy

“Choose your friends wisely.” – Makala Gibson

“Succeed in all you do and have fun doing it; however, don’t do something you’ll regret. Find your true friends, because in the long run, they will be there through everything. Stay strong and dedicated to eve-rything. XOXO! Class 2014.” – Stephanie Morris

Becoming valedictorian, salutatorian, or senior class president is a huge honor. These three im-portant people not only shape how senior year will go, but they also are the last people to speak for your class on graduation night. Recently the Hornet Buzz sat down with valedictorian Daniel Danley, salutatorian Rebecca Mills, and senior class president Katelyn Dowdell for a Q & A session. HB: Are you ready to graduate? DD: I am excited to graduate, but I am also a little nervous because I am entering a com-pletely new part of my life that will take adjusting to. RM: Yes and no; I am sad to leave home but excited to begin a new chapter in my life. KD: Yes, I am going to miss everybody and the routine of school. However, I am really ex-cited for the future and what is left to come. HB: What would you tell a student who wants to become valedictorian or salutatori-an? DD: Work extremely hard on everything you do. Never listen to anyone who tells you that you can’t achieve anything you set your mind on. RM: it is a great accomplishment and a great goal to set for yourself. It has been my goal from the beginning of high school. It takes much dedication. HB: What would you tell a student who wants to become student class president? KD: Go for it. The drama and craziness is all worth it when you graduate and get to make that speech and your parents proud. Never be afraid to strive for greatness. HB: How would you honestly describe yourself? DD: I would describe myself as a hard working individual who strives to achieve in everything I do. RM: I believe I am a straight forward and determined person. KD: I try to be nice to everyone. I believe in having dreams, and I try to push people to peruse their dreams. I try to be outgoing and make people’s days better. HB: Who is your biggest influence to do well in school? DD: I am my own biggest influence to do well in school. If I am doing anything in life, I want to do it to the best of my ability. RM: My sister, Jessica. She was also she was also salutatorian and has always been the example I wanted to follow. KD: My parents—they have always wanted me to do my best and pushed me to try my hardest and I want to make them proud. HB: Do you have any regrets or anything you would change about the past four years? DD: I wish I had slowed down and enjoyed my time in high school even more because now the more difficult part of my life will begin. RM: No regrets KD: I don’t regret anything except not trying harder in class and realizing that the drama that may mean a lot then is pointless. HB: What do you plan to do after graduation? Why? DD: After graduation I will be attending Auburn University and plan on majoring in mathematics education. RM: I am enrolled at AUM and plan to live on campus. I plan to pursue a degree in pharmacy. KD: I am going to Troy University to study international business. I love the idea of traveling, and I can’t wait. HB: What does it feel like to receive this honor? DD: I am extremely honored to receive this. It makes all the hours of working and paying attention in class worth the time. RM: I am extremely proud of my accomplishment. KD: It was really exciting. Being senior class president is really special to me and the fact that I was voted here by my fellow class is really humbling. I love my class so much, and I am really going to miss them!
