To cast the door frame, a wooden panel (measuring 80 cm x 200 cm) and the hardware (hinges and latches) are fixed at corresponding cut provided in the moulds. Then screws are inserted with plastic fixers to be embedded in con-crete. To cast the window frame, a set of wooden panels (measuring 80 cm. x 105 cm.) and the hardware (hinges and latches) are fixed to corresponding cuts provided in the moulds. The screws are inserted with plastic fixers to be embed-

ded in concrete. Then both panels are fixed together by nailing pieces of wood across them on either side. A 2 to 3 mm. thick plastic sheet or card-board strip are fixed to the four edges of the panel with adhesive tape. The latches are kept in the open position and fixed a tape around the open edges. The inner and outer moulds are assem-bled separately and are locked firmly by driving the end plugs. The assem-bled outer mould is placed on supports (wood, stone, concrete or brick) 20 to 30 cm above the ground to ensure the

level and for easy working. All the inner surfaces of moulds need to be oiled thor-oughly before casting the frame. RAW MATERIALS: The necessary raw materials to cast the door and window frames are cement, sand, pea gravel and steel and bamboo re-bars. The concrete mix is prepared in the ratio of 1 cement : 2 sand : 3 pea gravel. The required quantities of ingre-dients should be measured using a stan-dard measuring box or bucket. Cement: Portland cement needs to be used in the fabrication of doors and win-dows. The cement should be of the stan-dard required for normal concrete work. Sand: The sand should be well graded, clean and free of organic materials. The clay and silt content of the sand should not exceed 4%. Pea Gravel: It should have the same characteristics and properties as sand. The maximum size of the aggregate should not exceed 12.5 mm. They should be as clean and free from clay as the sand. Reinforcement: The window and door frames have steel bars and bamboo rein-forcement. The size of the steel re-bars is 6 mm and that of bamboo is 12 mm di-ameter. The steel bars are used for the corners of the frame and tied with 12 mm bamboo or steel re-bars with a twisted 2 mm wire. Water: The water should be clean and fresh, and free of salt. If the water qual-ity is doubtful, it can be tested in labora-tory for salt content and other chemical contamination..

PRODUCTION PROCESS : The general steps are the following: - Setting up the moulds - Oiling the inner surface of the mould - Preparing the reinforcement - Concrete Preparation - Filling with the concrete mix about 2

to 3 cm. - Placing the reinforcement - Filling with the concrete mix to the

top surface of the mould - Curing - Demoulding - Air curing/ storage - Quality control

INSTALLATION The installation of the modular pre-assembled door or window in the wall construction is easy and takes only 15 minutes. Grout is poured into the corresponding grooves of the door or window frames and the bricks securing the panels in place. TRAINING: Training in production of door and window frames and in managing pro-duction units can be provided by Habitech Center at its typical produc-tion facilities on AIT campus. The training cost is established on a case by case basis. For information and details, please contact: Habitech Center, SET, AIT PO Box 4, Klong Luang Pathumthani-12120 Thailand
