• Twenty potential centres of excellence and reference in journalism education identified in Africa, as a focus for resources

Information for All Programme (IFAP)

• Implementation of several projects funded by the IFAP Special Fund for a total of              US$ 210,000

• National Information Society Policy: A Template, a document designed to assist Member States in the formulation of national information policy frameworks. 

• IFAP Information Society Observatory, accessible online. Created with the financial support of IFAP and continuously updated with new, relevant documents, events, books and experiences, annotations and links.

• Implementation of concrete activities included in the WSIS Action Plan within the framework of UNESCO programmes

•Facilitation of the coherent implementation of the six Action Lines falling under UNESCO areas of competence (access to information and knowledge; e-learning; e-science; cultural diversity and identity, linguistic diversity and local content; media; ethical dimensions of the Information Society)

•UNESCO, together with ITU, UNCTAD and UNDP, is one of the agencies playing a leading facilitating role in the multi-stakeholder coordination of all the eleven Action Lines

•Within the UN system, UNESCO is currently (2010-2011) chairing the UN Group on the Information Society (UNGIS), the coordination mechanism set up within the Chief Executives Board for Coordination (CEB)

•UNESCO’s WSIS community online platform will be officially launched in the lead-up to the WSIS Forum 2011
