Establishing NormsWhat are they?

O Norms are ways of working together that help groups be more thoughtful and productive.

O Norms fall into two categories: procedural and interpersonal.

O Once norms are established, it is important that the entire group take responsibility for them.

O Norms can change and evolve as the group develops and matures.

O Decision Making Process – How will we make decisions? Reach agreements? How will we show agreement?

Establishing Norms Procedure

O Organize your Post It notes from yesterday.

O Create a chart with 2 columns: procedural norms and interpersonal norms.

O Do a Round Robin: each member of the group reads one of her/his Post Its and places it in the correct column.

Narrowing Down Norms

O Group the suggestions that are similar. For example:
