Fundraising Reminder: Mission Vehicle!

We have been blessed to have a vehicle loaned to us this past year but

we need to buy our own. The recycling fundraising process did not work

and we are facing the possibility of not having regular and safe transporta-

tion.

One of our Beacon House Kids is enjoying mak-

ing a crown to celebrate the birth of Jesus dur-

ing Beacon House’s Christmas celebrations.

How wonderful it is for him to know that he is

a child of the one and only God and because of

Jesus nothing can separate him for his King.

1 John 5:1 Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has been born of God, and everyone who loves the

Father loves whoever has been born of him.

Some of the kiddo’s from my class at Beacon House Children’s Development Center enjoying a celebration spaghetti lunch. Each student earned points for good behavior and doing home-work. It is wonderful to see how Jesus is healing their sorrows as only He can do! When a child has had such hardship and sorrow as these at-risk orphans it is hard for them to imagine there is a God that has good things in store for them or even trust the concept of “Love”. Hunter showed them how to make ice cream sandwiches. The kids loved them!

Along with the traditional Easter Eggs the kids also made Resur-rection cards to be handed out on Easter Sunday! The Joy of the Lord is in their SOUL!

Jaden’s best friend at Beacon House, “Ben” is heading to the US in April to be with his forever parents. Ben came up to Heather and said, “Jaden needs a new best friend after I am gone. The only one his age is a girl, so that will not work.” The mind of the child may at times be overly prag-matic but it always one of love. Jaden knows that Ben has waited a long time for his opportunity to have parents and is happy for hm. But he is still a little sad about losing his best friend. Thankfully, his big brother is still here, well until next year anyway.

Those of you who follow us on Facebook have heard of “Floee”.

Here she is recovering in a US pediatric ICU after her heart

surgery. Even though she was in moderate pain after surgery

she still found time to paly games on the tablet! Pain medicine

is a blessing!

When someone lands in a Christian’s life they have no way of knowing what God is expecting of them, if anything. Yet, there are times where God’s direction is clear and challenging. Being called to a life of service to His children, whether they be young or old, sometimes exposes you to potential pain. Being a high-risk child with heart problems who was abandoned at the local hospital, Floee had no one advo-cating for her life. There was no one to care for her. Romana Testa, director of Beacon House Ghana, worked very hard to gather the needed paperwork to release her into our care. A little over a year later Floee is in the US with forever parents and getting the care needed for a long life.

Now in the US, we are beginning to hear how God has worked and that He just may have something special in store for Floee. The US surgeon explained it is extremely rare that a child with heart condi-tions such as Floee's and at age (3 or 4) that she doesn't have pulmo-nary hypertension. With holes in the heart and pulmonary hyperten-sion she may have made it to her teens, but not much further. Floee’s heart formed a double chamber on the right side to compensate for the damage caused by the holes. The double chamber that the right ventricle had created from the wall thickening is essentially what has kept her from getting pulmonary hypertension. It's blocked a lot of the blood from mixing where the hole is located. The doctor said without hesitation, she is a miracle!

This child of God, Floee, was such a blessing to our family, providing unconditional love. We would be lying if we said that do not miss her, our hearts melted with her like they would with any child. Floee has reminded us of what Jesus said about little children, “...whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child will not enter it at all." There is no negotiation involved with entering into the kingdom of God. No bribe will open the gates. No labor is bartered for entrance. The only thing that can move the gates of heaven is love. Pure, un-conditional love. Give your child, no matter the age, a hug today.

What child does not enjoy opening a present at Christmas?! :-)

Bolga Update

Ursula and David successfully moved to Bolgatonga. Both the boys, Emmanuel and Caleb, are enrolled in school. Thank You to

Elaine Brown for donating bicycles to the boys, they are enjoying riding them to and from school. There have been a few nation-

al missionaries over the years that have establish churches. However, the harsh conditions combined with the very few schools

for their own children causes them to leave. David and Ursula are from this area, to them, they have come home. They have

been pining to return for years and only now have all the pieces come in place for them to return. They are also fostering a ba-

by who’s mother died after along illness.

We will be traveling to Bolga in April and will be helping them with ministry. In June a team from Real Life Christian Church, in Houston will be coming for one week to help with children’s ministry. They will also bring with them a group of doctors and nurses to minister in the surrounding areas. David is currently preaching at two small churches in the Vea area. Our foster daughter, “Floee” on Christmas morning listening to The Very First Christmas recorded by her forever sister. As you can from the picture to the left she is now with her forever parents in the US.

Hi everyone, my name is Naba Khan and I’m writing on behalf of Meredith College, and our wonderful team! This winter break, our team had the amazing opportunity to vol-unteer at Beacon House in Accra, Ghana. We prepared a literacy program (MotherReads) to implement at Beacon House with the kids! Now I can say going to Beacon House every day in Accra was the greatest blessing I have ever received. We felt so much love and joy, each and every day, from the kids and the staff. To see those kids smile and laugh with us was pure bliss. We fell in love with the kids in an instant.

There are so many moments I cherish from that week and so many that I just never want to forget. One day I walked into Beacon House, tired and sweaty as usual. As I was standing there, a young girl came up to me and asked “what is your name?” and I said “Naba, what’s yours?” and she introduced herself She then looked at me, straight in the eye, and said “Naba, you are beautiful”. I have never felt more beautiful in my life.

There are so many memories I will always keep close to my heart. I remember sitting in the living room reading to a group of kids who brought so much enthusiasm and happi-ness to my life. I remember leaving Beacon House the first day, and a group of kids saying “We are so happy to see you”, and “God bless you”. I remember Katy giving one of the blind and developmental delayed boys the tambourine at the Christmas party, and watching him laugh with so much joy. I remember Katy and Holly crying because

the feelings were so incredibly overwhelming. I remember Michelle and Hannah teaching the kids math and how much life they brought to the lessons. I remember Bailey playing frisbee with the boys and laughing throughout the whole game. I re-member Jackie leading circle time, and watching the kids smiles grow bigger and bigger. I remember Miller reading with Mary in the kitchen and telling us how much she admired Mary. I remember Callie reading a book about mosquitoes to Josephine outside on a perfect, sunny day. I remember Stacy telling us we’ll remember these moments and to keep them close to our hearts forever. I remember being in the volunteer room, and realizing how much I had grown to love Beacon House. Most of all, I remember leaving Beacon House on the last day and trying not to cry while saying goodbye to all of our wonderful new friends.

Most people say miracles are hard to witness –a once in a lifetime sort of thing, but I witnessed many miracles at Beacon

House. The miracles are the kids. I want to thank Romana and Heather for the miraculous work they have done and continue

to do. I know they are in our team’s prayers and blessings each day. I have missed Beacon House every day since I’ve been

back, and I know I’ll continue to miss it until I visit again. Speaking on behalf of our team, I can say with full confidence, that we

love Beacon House more than the world, and we love the kids more than we could have ever imagined. We all will surely visit

one day again and until then, thank you for the precious memories. Thank you for the love we received at Beacon House.

Thank you, Beacon House, for bringing so much happiness and life to all of those wonderful kids, and for letting us become a

part of your incredible family. We love you all.

Can you believe that a blind man built this house?! Yup, he sure did. The house is just outside of Vea, near Bolga, and is one of the local tourist attractions.

Ben, one of our BH kids, is taking one last picture with us before he leaves with his forever family in the US. He and Jaden have been best friends for several years now. Those two have spent many weekends together and Ben’s departure has been tough on both of them.

North American Christian Convention 2013

One of the down sides to being a small mission is that we

are only a few people. It is extremely difficult for us to

break away from our work in Ghana to do conventions. In

the last 20 years we have only been able to attend two

North American Christian Conventions . This year our minis-

try will have a booth in Louisville, KY. But as is usually the

case not everyone with the ministry can attend due to con-

flicts in scheduling. Only Heather will be able to attend the

NACC as PC must stay behind in Ghana. Now, if anyone is

interested in helping Heather man the booth PLEASE con-

tact her via email [email protected] . She will be at booth

400 located right beside the Standard Publishing booth. If

you are coming to the convention please stop buy and learn

more about the mission in Ghana. $1000________
