Fundraising Reminder: Mission Vehicle!

We have been blessed to have a vehicle loaned to us this past year but

we need to buy our own. The recycling fundraising process did not work

and we are facing the possibility of not having regular and safe transporta-

tion.

Ten States

While in the US to attend the NACC Jaden and I travelled through ten states visiting supporting churches and some that are interested in Beacon House’s mission. We are so blessed to have such great partners in the Lord’s work in Ghana and sharing that blessing with our partners is a great en-couragement. Kayla, on a break form college joined me on a visit to Galilee Christian Church in Geor-gia and Burlington Christian Church in North Carolina. Unfortunately, PC had to remain in Ghana fin-ishing up work on a project there. Hunter was there with him. Hopefully, we all will be in the US for an extended furlough by next March.

I was also able to see my doctor in Charlotte. Last year I had blood work done that revealed some serious issues with my insulin levels that were affecting my health. The doctor prescribed a change in diet (not so easy in Ghana) and some medication. This was an opportunity to see how the prescrip-tion was working by comparing this blood work up with last year’s. Thankfully, things are much im-proved.

Mission Team Visit

Realife Christian Church mission team came to Bolga in June. They worked with David and Urusla to put up the wall around the land that will in the future be a Christian school and ministry center. Hunter, Romana’s daughter Akyini , and Tene our Ghana daughter also joined them during this time.

After a long day Hunter, Akinyi, and Teni climb to the top of the rock hill where one can view all of the Vea re-gion. Raised in Christ & Serving with a Smile!

Bolga Ministry in Action

David and Ursula have been helping three young church-es in and around Vea, in the Upper East Region. Many of these people walked over ten miles to worship under the Baobab tree. It is was a privilege to worship with them and humbling to think that I would not have walked so far. David hopes to help them plant another church closer to the area where they live. God is opening doors and many are hungry for the truth they are finding in the living Pure God.

At the Akurugu’s home they have youth meetings twice a week. Currently, they constantly have around fifty chil-dren and teens. They had to move out of their little home to the back of the house. On this particular night I was teaching a lesson on David and Jonathon. The chil-dren took on the different characters in the story. Learn-ing the stories and truths of God through story telling or drama is loved by the kids. I had a hard time not laugh-ing every time the little ones who were the sheep in the story had to go baabaa…. Every time they heard the word sheep!

Jaden, guess what is for supper?! Smoked donkey!

Heather helped teach at a prayer meeting and Bible study that meets two times a week behind the Akurugu’s house.

This is the young church near Vea. Some of these folk walked 10 miles to come to service!

He will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water, Which yields its fruit in its season And its leaf does not wither; And in whatever he does, he prospers. (Psalm 1:3)

Tree planting, Jesus style!

Jonathan Two Months Later

This little one’s mother died not long after his

birth. His birth mother received prenatal care

during a difficult pregnancy and he was born

healthy and strong. However, shortly after his

birth the mother began swelling. The father

went to a juju man who said she was ill due to a

spirit not medical reason. Sacrifices were given

to the spirit and poured on a tree. She died

shortly after the ceremony and this innocent

little one began to be starved to drive away the

evil.

Romana was contacted by Christian women in

the area inquiring if she could help. The Aku-

rugu’s and myself had long discussions with the

family before they released the eleven month

old into our care. Unfortunately, their argu-

ments were more focused around concern for

the evil spirit than the child’s welfare. To make

matters worse it took four more months for

Social Welfare to sign the documents to release

him into Beacon House’s care. The head nurse

at a clinic near the Akurugu’s house said that

Jonathan was not a case of malnutrition but

Gracie

Romana was working hard to get all the legal paperwork

signed so Gracie could travel to the children’s home in Legon

to receive the specialized medical needs. Ursula was caring

for this sweet little Beacon House baby girl during this time.

We had just celebrated her weight gain to 14lbs at 11

months old and looking forward to her first birthday. She be-

came ill on a Thursday evening and on Friday saw medical

care. In this particular area doctors are very few and do not

work on weekends. She fought hard to hold on to life but

slipped away. Ursula was correct in saying, “This work we all

do for Jesus is not an easy one!”

starvation. By the time he came to us he was just a bag of

bones.

We put him on a special high calorie diet just for starvation

cases and in just a few months he is at the appropriate

weight. Praise God he is doing wonderfully. Thank you for all

your prayers

Urgent Prayer Request Please be in prayer for the children’s home development center as of December we must move. Romana Testa has paid for the home for the last eight years. She does this by renting her home in London. However, the owner has steadily increased the rent from $800 a month to $2,000 a month and wants to increase once again. Homes in this area that are the equal size rent from $2,500 to $3,000. Romana and I will be looking for a less expensive home. And will continue to pray for funds to build a permanent home on the land about 30 minutes outside of Accra, the capital of Ghana.
