When the call comes in on the radio, Joe Pickett can hardly believe his ears: game wardens have found a hunter dead at a camp in the mountainsstrung up, gutted, skinned, and beheaded, as if he were the elk he’d been pursuing. A spent cartridge and a poker chip lie next to his body. Ripples of horror spread through the community, and with a possi- bly psychotic killer on the loose, Governor Rulon is forced to end hunting season early for the first time in state historyoutraging hunters and potentially crippling the state’s income from the loss of hunting license revenue. But when the brutal murders eerily coincide with the arrival of radical anti-hunting activist Klamath Moore, Pickett knows the Governor’s ruling is the least of his worries. Are the murders the work of a deranged activist or of a lone psychopath with a personal vendetta?

Thrive

We have if wersquore lucky about thirty thousand days to play the game of life How we play it will be determined by what we value If we worship money wersquoll never feel truly abundant If we worship power recognition and fame wersquoll never feel we have enough And if we live our lives madly rushing around trying to find and save time wersquoll always find our-selves living in a time famine frazzled and stressed

While the world provides plenty of insistent flash-ing high-volume signals directing us to make more money and climb higher up the ladder there are almost no worldly signals reminding us to stay con-nected to the essence of who we are to take care of ourselves along the way to reach out to others to pause to wonder and to connect to that place from which everything is possible To quote my Greek com-patriot Archimedes ldquoGive me a place to stand and I will move the worldrdquo

So find your place to stand-your place of wisdom and peace and strength And from that place remake the world in your own image according to your own definition of success so that all of us- women and men- can thrive and live our lives with more grace more joy more compassion more gratitude and yes more love Onward upward and inward
