2. Houses Chinook Indians lived in plank houses builtby thin pieces of red cedar wood. They did alot of projects or crafts built of wood becausethey were very good at wood carving. Atleast 50 people lived in a house. They hadthe largest houses of any native tribe inNorth America. 3. Food Chinook indians eat a lot of differentfoods because they lived next to theocean and wooded areas. They atethings including fish, deer, fruit, nuts, elk, bears, roots and geese. They lovedsalmon especially. It was good that theyliked fish because they lived in Oregon& Washington right next to the ocean sothey eat fish and under water animals. 4. Clothes Chinook indians made a lot of clothesout of cedar wood. I thought thatpersonally was a really cool fact. Theywove it into fabrics and cloth. Theymade pants, shirts, capes, and hats. They just look like regular clothing. Youcant tell at all that they are made out ofwood! 5. Hunting Like we mentioned earlier, Chinooks dida lot of fishing. They ate fish at leastonce a day. Their favorite fish wassalmon. The areas where the Chinookslived were full of fish. They also hunteddeer, elk, bear, duck, and geese.Chinooks hunted multiple marinemammals too. They had food every year24/7 because of the wide variety of theChinooks diet. 6. Ritual Ceremonies The Chinook ceremonies are calledpotlatches. Tribe Chiefs would giveaway foods and gifts to show that theywere kind and helpful people. Theywould dance wearing headdresses andmasks. 7. Arts and Crafts Chinook indians were great woodcarvers. This included canoes, vasthouses, & totem poles. They also lovedmaking masks for ceremonies. Chiefs oftribes wore special headdresses insteadof the masks worn by the rest of theclan. 8. Interesting Facts Sometimes, Chinooks made totem polesto make fun of someone. For cooking, they would drop rocks intoa basket of boiling water, put the lid onthen put the food on top of the basket. They used different animal shapedrattles for healing sick people. The Chinook were discovered first byLewis & Clark. 9. Thank you Thank you for watching our presentationon Chinook Indians. We hope youlearned a lot. Or just something that youdid not already know.
