MAIN FEATURESThe KGK series Argal pumps are centrifugal and designedfor vertical installations. They have column and volute casingsubmerged, own mechanical support and motor mountedabove the liquid to be pumped. Any metal part comes intocontact with the fluid and any bolts or nuts are submerged inthe liquid. Under normal operating conditions, no mechanicalsealing systems to prevent leaks of liquid are required whileoptional vapour seals are foreseen. Designed to pump corrosivechemicals have been engineered down to the smallest detailsto ensure long operating life and efficiency. Great care waspaid to the KGK pumps right from the design board to easemaintenance and corrective operations for the repair crewsinternal or external to the companies served and for ourworldwide net of distributors. The range of KGK pumps foreseetwo size ranges and the main parts subject to maintenanceare the same for all the pumps belonging to each dimensionalgroup.

CONSTRUCTIONSingle-stage centrifugal pumps, axial downwards suction fittedwith protective filter, radial outlet connected to a verticaldischarge pipe, upward oriented discharge flange located onthe support base plate provided. Columns available in standardlengths from 500 to 4000 mm with increments of 250 mm

MATERIALSThe materials wetted by the fluidpumped have excellent chemicalresistance. The FC, WR, WF andQR pump versions, completelyconstructed with thermoplastic orwith column and delivery pipe madeof FRP, and finished with the differentgu ide and wear bush ingsspecifications available, offer a widecombinations of chemically resistantexecution materials. To select thep r o p e r c o n f i g u r a t i o n t h econcentration and temperature of theliquid pumped have to be comparedwith the maximum values admissibleby the chemical compatibility chartsprovided by our technical departmentfor the given liquid. This approachmakes it possible to operate withinthe proper safety margins and ensurereliable applications.

GUIDE BUSHINGSThe material of the guide bushingand wear bushings located in thelower side of the pump close to the casing of the pump,are respectively glass reinforced PTFE and AL2O3 oralternatively, for solids or abrasive particles laden liquids,Silicium carbide and Silicium carbide. The bushings arelubricated by the liquid pumped, but, for mentioned solidsor abrasive particles laden liquids is available an auxiliaryexternal water flushing device.

KGK1

VAPOUR SEAL SYSTEMTo contain the vapours developing inside the pump in staticand dynamic conditions a V ring dry vapour seal is locatedclose to the base plate. On request is possible to add adynamic deflector or a fluid barrier vapour system. It operatesfeeding modest quantities of compressed air or water with apush in rapid connector to build up a counter pressurisedlaminar flow and prevent vapours or poisonous gasses to flushthe mechanical parts and escape in the environment.

MOTORSThe KGK pumps are equipped with electric motors fullycompliant to IEC standards 400V +/- 5% voltage, multifrequency 50 - 60 Hz frequency, tropicalised, IP 55 protectionclass F insulation, and B5 shape. Different degrees of protectionand different voltages can be supplied on request. The 2-polerotors have a rotating speed of 2900 rpm (50 Hz) and 3500rpm (60 Hz) and the 4-pole motors of 1450 rpm (50 Hz) and1750 rpm (60Hz).

PAINTWORKThe support to host the pump shaft bearings and the electricmotor flange (both of casted iron) are protected with epoxyenamel painted over an appropriate primer undercoat.

1 Elastic jointThe elastic joint allows neat and fast coupling and disassembling of theelectric motor (IEC compliant) from the support while flanges with tolerancesdown to 1/10 of mm eliminate the need of any mechanical adjustment.

Compact supportThe extremely compact vertical dimension of the support that hosts bearingand flexible joint simplifies and improves the deployment of the pump ontanks and plants, lowers the barycentre referred to the base plate, increasesstability and minimises the oscillation whenever the frame to sustain the baseplate of the pump is not adequately rigid.

Base plateSolid base made in thermoplastic material.

Push in quick release fittingPush in quick release fitting to feed the “fluid barrier”.

Vapour seal systemVR – Static and dynamic (Standard). By an elastomeric ring operating drycontains pressure of 100 - 150 mbar in static and dynamic conditions.

VL – (Optional). By addition of a dynamic deflector counters pressures upto approximately 300 mbar

VF – (Optional). Fluid barrier features a true active barrier to gas or vapoursby mean of low pressure laminar flow of air fed from an external source.

Column and discharge pipeAll wetted parts are made of plastic materials and the shaft is completelyprotected with a sleeve. In the version G the column and the delivery pipeare sheathed with polyester reinforced with glass fibres.

Guide bushings Guide bushings with two different combinations of materials.N - Glass fibres reinforced PTFE (GFR/ PTFE) on Ceramic alumina for genericapplications.X - Silicium carbide on Silicium carbide for liquids laden with high quantityof solids and / or abrasive particles in suspension.Columns longer than 2000 mm deployed a further intermediate support guidewith executed with same combination of materials.

Cartridge diaphragmEasy to replace Cartridge diaphragm guide bushing.

Positioning of the casing The pump casing is locked by a ring-nut withoutany bolt submerged in the chemical. The locknut allows, in case of replacementafter several working years, the correct positioning and right alignment of thevolute casing with discharge connection.

Pump casing The pump casing is injection moulded, ribbed and with uniformand deep wall thickness. The polymer is reinforced for the best dimensionalstability and mechanical resistance.

Flushing line for guide bushingsOptional connection for the external flushing of the guide bushing with cleanwater when slurries are pumped.

Bottom filterA new bottom filter with 3 mm passages is available as integral componentof the pump.

QUALITYThe single components as well as the complete pump aresubjected to a quality control plan. For example we can certifyon request composition and origin of the row materials,balancing test, hydrostatic test. The functional test is executedaccordingly to ISO 9906 Grade 2 – Annex 1 regulation. Ourpumps comply with CE standards on machine safety and aresupplied with all the relevant documentation. The installationuse and maintenance manual must be carefully read andstrictly followed by the user.

APPLICATIONSHandling of acid, hydroxide and salt solutions in differentconcentrations and temperatures: mixture of strong acids,electrolytic baths, aromatic hydrocarbons, chlorides, alcohol,glycol ethers, emulsions, etc. from tanks, reservoirs and collectionsumps. Liquids with a specific weight of up to 2 kg/dm3 canbe handled according to the installed power; maxim kinematicsviscosity of 75 cSt and maxim temperature of 90°C to bereduced accordingly to the type of pump, type of material andlength of the column as detailed in the table 5.

THE EXECUTIONS

FC – FCGThe base resin is PVDF (vinylidene polyfluoride): it’s a fluorinatedpolymer resistant to abrasion, and with high degree ofmechanical resistance. The addition of carbon fibres increasesits mechanical properties and dimensional stability withoutreducing its chemical resistance.WR – WRGThe base resin is PP (polypropylene); characterised by chemicalresistance to a large range of chemicals and reinforced withglass fibres offers good mechanical resistance and dimensionalstability.WF - WFGThe base resin is PP reinforced with glass fibers, while thestressed mechanical parts are made of PVDF to increaseresistance to wear and abrasion.QR – QRGThe base resin is PVC (polyvinyl chloride) deployed for itsexcellent resistance to alkalis and acids (especially chromicacid, sulfuric acid, mixtures of sulfuric and nitric acid, sodiumhypo chlorite, nitro muriatic acid…. OzoneNote:The G versions have the submerged column and the dischargepipe sheathed with FRP (Fiber reinforced polyester). Thisreduces the extension of column and discharge pipeconsequent to variation of environmental and liquid temperature.
