Background Born in London, England December 26th 1791
His father was a wealthy banker and was able to provide the best education for Babbage.
Unfortunately, Charles suffered from a dangerously high fever at a young age which forced him to move from school to school.
Contributions Babbage was inspired by the work of W. Schickard, B.Pascal, and G. Leibniz on calculating machines.
He wrote a paper titled, "Note on the application of machinery to the computation of astronomical and mathematical tables."
Babbage's theory of “difference engine” was able to calculate polynomials by using a numerical method.
In 1824 Babbage won the Gold Medal of the Royal Astronomical Society "for his invention of an engine for calculating mathematical and astronomical tables".
The Father of the Computer Babbage is considered the “father of the computer.”
He created the first computer concept which contained an Arithmetic Logic Unit, basic flow control, and integrated memory.
However, it was never built while he was alive because
of financial issues, so his son Henry Babbage later made
some of the machine that could do some calculations.
