A civil war was fought between COMMUNISTS & NATIONALISTS.

The U.S. supported the nationalists because they opposed communism.

The NATIONALISTS were often brutal and corrupt.

Eventually the COMMUNISTS, Led by Mao Zedong, won.

Nationalists led by Chiang Kai-Shek, fled to Taiwan.

Was a failure of containment. Scared America.

Led to growing fear of communism in the U.S., and anger that it was not stopped.

Intense reaction in the United States!!!

Korean War facts…Korean War facts… The first Armed clash of the Cold War

Over 3 million people died in the Korean War. The Korean War is sometimes called The Forgotten War. This is because it

occurred right after World War II and right before the Vietnam War. The Korean War often gets overlooked.

16 Nations sent forces to fight in the Korean War. The Peace Talks lasted 2 years and 17 days. 575 meetings had to take place

before an agreement was made. That agreement kept the dividing line at the 38th parallel.

United States forces started integration during the Korean War, due to much needed support. Black and Whites worked together for the first time.

Technically the War is still going on, since no agreement officially ended it.
