Centum Charitas Foundation Scholarship 2014/15 Centum Charitas Foundation has launched a scholarship programme including the award of scholarships covering the tuition fees of students’ undergraduate degree programme and a special leadership training programme. Qualification: To full-time local government-funded students, who are newly admitted to a 4-year undergraduate degree programme in 2014/15, through the Joint University Programmes Admission System (JUPAS). Number & Value of Award: - Two awards valued at HK$42,100 each per academic year shall be awarded to the 2014/15 intake cohort of local students. - Each scholarship will cover an awardee's tuition fees of the normal duration of study. Selection Criteria: - Academic intelligence (The applicants should have outstanding academic results for admission and outstanding secondary school results.) - Conduct and attitude - Leadership potential - Interpersonal communication skills - Social service contribution Selection Procedures: - A panel comprising PolyU academic staff members will shortlist the applicants to attend an internal selection, which will further shortlist 6 candidates for the Donor’s selection. The decision of the Donor is final. - The shortlisted applicants will be invited to attend the internal selection interview to be conducted in PolyU tentatively during 7-14 November 2014. The 6 candidates must attend the final interview with the Donor to be held during December 2014 to January 2015. Award Conditions: - Continuation/renewal of the Scholarship in subsequent year(s) is subject to the awardees’ academic merit (attain a yearly GPA of 3.0), fulfillment of at least 20 hours of participation in leadership training programs & social service projects organized by the Donor before end of August every year and maintenance of good standing in terms of conduct and a free disciplinary record with PolyU during the period under review. Failure to sustain outstanding academic performance and/or any of the award conditions may render suspension or discontinuation of scholarship. - The awardees are required to attend all designated events related to the Scholarship, including but not limited to scholarship presentation ceremony, media interviews and sharing sessions. - The awardees are required to participate in the leadership training programmes and social service projects, as well as the annual fundraising event “Centum Charitas Foundation beHERO Charity Run” organized by the Centum Charitas Foundation. Centum Charitas Foundation has launched a scholarship programme including the award of scholarships covering the tuition fees of students’ undergraduate degree programme and a special leadership training programme. 1. Purpose of the Scholarship (i) The purpose of the Centum Charitas Foundation Scholarship is to provide the outstanding awardees with full tuition

fee sponsorship for their four-year full time undergraduate programmes at the institution leading to an honours degree, enabling them to strive for excellence performances throughout the study.

(ii) Through continuous participation in the business-school leadership training programme offered by Centum Charitas Foundation, the Scholarship awardees will learn professional practices in various aspects to strengthen their practical skills for better career development.

(iii) Through continuous participation in the comprehensive social service projects organized by Centum Charitas Foundation, the Scholarship awardees will have the best opportunity to serve and support the groups in need in the society.

2. Amount of the Scholarship to each awardee

((ii)) Each Scholarship awardee is entitled to have full tuition fee of the four-year full time UGC-Funded undergraduate programme at the institution leading to an honours degree sponsored by Centum Charitas Foundation. According to the published figure for the Year 2014 – 2015 study, the amount will be HK$42,100 each year, summing up to HK$168,400 for the four-year study.

((iiii)) The actual amount of the tuition fee being covered is subject to review according to the latest tuition adjustment announced by UGC.

((iiiiii)) If the Scholarship awardee is studying a designated undergraduate programme with required length of study more than 4 years, Centum Charitas Foundation will adjust the tuition fee sponsorship amount or period, to ensure all the tuition fees required are well-covered, and such adjustment will not affect the sponsorship to all of the other Scholarship awardees.

((iivv)) If the Scholarship awardee joins certain exchange or internship programme during the undergraduate study, Centum Charitas Foundation will consider each case individually, to determine whether extra sponsorship would be granted to such programmes.

((vv)) If the Scholarship awardee changes to other institutions or other undergraduate programmes after receiving the Scholarship, thus leading to adjustment of the total years of study, Centum Charitas Foundation will consider each case individually, to determine whether extra sponsorship would be granted to such adjustments.

3. Number of Scholarship awardees for each institution

((ii)) Starting from the Year 2014 – 2015, Centum Charitas Foundation will sponsor TWO newly admitted Year 1 students from each institution for their four-year full time UGC-Funded undergraduate programme

4. Requirements for Applicants and Selection Criteria

((ii)) Applicant must be student admitted to the first-year study of the full time UGC-Funded undergraduate programme at one of the 8 UGC-Funded Institutions, enrolled through the Joint University Programmes Admissions System (JUPAS).

((iiii)) Applicant must be local student bearing the Hong Kong Permanent Identity Card.

((iiiiii)) Applicant should possess outstanding academic results for admission and outstanding secondary school results (awardees of other scholarships are also eligible for application).

((iivv)) Applicant should have outstanding achievements in extra-curricular activities and social service projects.

((vv)) Applicant should have distinct conduct, comprehensive interpersonal communication skills, sound team spirit, commitment to social services and leadership potentials.

((vvii)) Applicant has to be granted recommendation from the corresponding institution to enter the final selection by the Panel of Judges.

((vviiii)) Successful applicant has to pass the final selection by the Panel of Judges of the Scholarship.

5. Panel of Judges A Panel of Judges for the Centum Charitas Foundation Scholarship is formed to be responsible for the entire selection process and selection criteria of the Scholarship. The members of the Panel include eminent persons in the society, professionals and representatives from the institutions, with the Chairman of Centum Charitas Foundation and Vice-Chairman of Centum Charitas Foundation responsible for organizing the Scholarship as the ex-officio members. The Panel of Judges will access the performances of the applicants according to the following selection criteria:

((iiii)) Conduct and attitude

((iiiiii)) Leadership potential

((iivv)) Interpersonal communication skills

((vv)) Social service contribution

33 Centum Charitas Foundation will submit the Scholarship’s funding request and sponsorship details to the Board for approval by the Board

Meeting’s resolution in yearly practice. The final arrangement of the Scholarship is subject to the decision by the Centum Charitas Foundation Board Meeting.

6. Selection Timetable

Period Item Details

August Promotion Promotion of the Scholarship to the newly admitted year-1 students of the corresponding institutions.

September Open for Application

Applications to be submitted to the corresponding institutions. All applications should be accompanied by copies of certificates and awards. Applicants could provide recommendation letters from secondary school principals, organizations

and eminent persons. Applicants have to submit an essay on a designated topic.

31st October Deadline of Application

All applications should be submitted to the corresponding departments of the institution on or before October 31 every year.

Mid-November Institution Nomination

Each institution should undergo its own selection criteria to nominate a total of six newly admitted Year 1 students to enter the final selection by the Panel of Judges.

December to next January

Final Selection The 48 finalists from the 8 institutions will attend a half-day or full-day workshop at designated date, time and venue for the final selection by the Panel of Judges. The panel members will confirm the 16 awardees (2 from each of the 8 institutions) according to the performances at the workshop, which will include proposal and report write-up, personal and group interviews, and experience sharing sessions.

Next January Announcement of Results

Centum Charitas Foundation will announce the final list of the Scholarship awardees before the end of January.

Next January to February

Scholarship Presentation Ceremony

The Scholarship will be presented to the awardees during the CCF Board Inauguration Ceremony (or specific presentation ceremony), being officiated by the current Chief Executive of HKSAR (or other designated guests).

7. Continuation of the Scholarship Scholarship awardee has to fulfill the following three criteria to be eligible for continuing award of the Scholarship for the next academic year’s full time UGC-Funded undergraduate programme tuition fee sponsorship:- (i) In each of the years of study, the awardee has to attain at least 75% of the highest possible yearly Grade Point Average

(GPA), or equivalent class corresponding to individual practices of the institutions. The Scholarship renewal process will be conducted every year and the awardee has to submit the latest academic result no later than August

(ii) In each of the years of study, the awardee has to accumulate at least 20 hours participation of the leadership training programmes and social service projects organized by Centum Charitas Foundation, before the end of August; and

(iii) In each of the years of study, the awardee should receive no record of punishment or disciplinary action by the institution due to any conduct, behavioural or breach of academic trusty issues.

8. Disbursement of the Scholarship

((ii)) The Scholarship for the first year student of the awardee will be presented at the designated ceremony. The guest of honour of the ceremony will present a crossed cheque amounts to the first year tuition fee of the institution to the awardee.

((iiii)) For the continuation of the Scholarship in the following years of study, Centum Charitas Foundation will send the donation cheques payable to corresponding institutions for release to the awardees in the form of full tuition fee settlement for the year of study before September.

9. Obligations of the Scholarship Awardees

((ii)) Awardee has to attend all the designated events related to the Scholarship, including but not limited to scholarship presentation ceremony, media interviews and sharing sessions.

((iiii)) Awardee has to keep outstanding academic excellence throughout the study in the institution.

((iiiiii)) Awardee has to participate in the leadership training programmes and social service projects organized by Centum Charitas Foundation and has to accumulate at least 20 hours of participation before the end of August.

((iivv)) Awardee has to participate in the organization of the annual fundraising event “Centum Charitas Foundation beHERO Charity Run”.

10. Centum Charitas Foundation Leadership Training Programme for Scholarship Awardees

((ii)) Centum Charitas Foundation will organize a comprehensive leadership training programme for all the Scholarship awardees, through a wide variety of professional talks, leadership sharing sessions, workshops and seminars, with systematic contents span across professional knowledge, industrial practices, expert communication skills, time management, business knowledge, site visits and mentorship sharing.

((iiii)) Centum Charitas Foundation will organize tailor-made internship programme for all the Scholarship awardees.

((iiiiii)) Scholarship awardees will automatically become core committee members of Centum Charitas Foundation’s charity and social service projects, including Centum Charitas Foundation beHERO Charity Run and school sharing sessions, in order to gain concrete experience in organizing and implementing such projects.

((iivv)) Centum Charitas Foundation will help the Scholarship awardees establish their own association and committee for its individual expansion, so as to inherit the vision of the Scholarship in the society.

44 In case the full mark of the yearly GPA is 4.0, the required minimum renewal GPA is 3.00. In case the full mark of the yearly GPA is 4.3, the required

minimum renewal GPA is 3.23. In case the highest possible average grading is “A”, the required minimum renewal average grading is “B+”.
