The 13,500-seat arena is the preeminent entertainment venue in West Virginia for entertainment events, sports activities, family shows, graduations, meetings and conventions. Working with Appalachian Power, the Civic Center decided to renovate their lighting system based on cost savings for electrical usage. The Project During 2014, the Civic Center determined that in order to save money and energy the arena needed to undertake lighting improvements. The Civic Center installed 24 Ephesus Arena 600 fixtures to replace 58 one-thousand watt metal halide lamps resulting in a 75% increase in energy savings. The LED lights, which last over 10 years, dramatically improved the lighting quality of the arena while eliminating maintenance costs. Additionally, the new system offers programmable light shows and other in-arena entertainment features. The Results The Charleston Civic Center improved the energy efficiency of their facility for a savings of 194,874 kilowatt-hours per year for an estimated financial savings of $11,512 annually.
