GENERAL INFORMATION Registrations: On-line registration and payment is now available. You can complete the registration form on-line and just add the $8.00 registration fee or you can mail your form from the booklet with the $6.00 registration fee with your check or money order to: James Caldwell HS 265 Westville Avenue, West Caldwell, NJ 07006 Att: Continuing Education There will be in-person registration on 8/29, 9/6, and 9/7 at JCHS, Rm. 105 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Registration fee is $6.00 for all non-residents of Caldwell and West Caldwell if paid on or before 9/7/17. All payments made after this date a late fee of $10.00 will be charged so register early. There is a $25.00 charge for all returned checks.

A certificate with the provider’s number (#2667) will be issued to all teachers who request it from their instructor prior to the end of the course.

Books and materials: The fee for registration does not include any charges for textbook materials or supplies needed for course. Instructors are not authorized to sell books or materials unless clearly specified in the course description. Program Changes: The Center reserves the right to make any changes in course offerings, scheduling, instructor, description, and room assignments as necessary. Classes that are cancelled due to inclement weather or other reasons will continue on past the calendar schedule. Check the district web site www.cwcboe.org under the District Info. Tab; then Continuing & Summer Education; then Continuing & Community Education tab on left or call the office after 6:00 p.m. (973) 228-2092. Inclement Weather and Emergencies: For the adult school closing information, please check the district website at www.cwcboe.org. If the Caldwell-West Caldwell schools are closed during the day; then they remain closed during the evening.

Refund Policy: The course tuition fee is non-refundable unless the course is cancelled due to low enrollment. The Center is not responsible for a registrant’s decision not to complete a course nor will receive compensation if classes are missed.

Read the course descriptions carefully before choosing and registering for a class. It is the student’s responsibility to ascertain that he/she is in good health and physical condition to meet the explicit or implied requirements of any course that may require physical activity. Individuals age 13 and up are eligible to register for classes.

Senior Citizens: Senior Citizens, 62 years of age or older, who are residents of Caldwell and West Caldwell may register for many courses free of charge (indicated by an * next to the course number). Registration will only be accepted the first night of the course and only if space is available. If you register before the first night of the class, you must pay the full tuition.

Smoking:

There is no smoking permitted in the school or on school grounds.

Parking:

Students may park in the school lot or on public streets but all restricted areas must be adhered to and a summons may be issued.

This course teaches the student how to solve mathematical problems dealing with volumes, detention time, and chemical dosage. Instruction in the biology, chemistry, treatment and distribution of both the water and wastewater fields. One of the aims of the curriculum is to prepare the student for “Advanced Water” or “Advanced Wastewater”, classes that are required by the state prior to their exam for the licensing of water and wastewater operators. As part of our mission to train people how to respond to and prepare for emergencies, we offer CPR/AED Certification classes that can help you provide assistance when someone is faced with a cardiac or breathing emergency. American Red Cross CPR/AED training classes give you the information and the skills you need to help adults, children, and infants during breathing and cardiac emergencies. New SORA SECURITY

LICENSE COURSE #9000

What is the SORA License? (Security Officer Registration Act) is a standardized Security guard training program that has become law in the State of NJ since 2007. This law now requires security practitioners to register, receive state regulated training, and a background check to work as a security guard in NJ. SORA training is a 3 step process to be completed within a 30-day period. These steps include registration with the New Jersey State Police, completing a 24-hour training program with a NJSP certified instructor, and fingerprinting. Attendance is for every hour of instruction is required and students must pass an exam with a minimum score of 70%. You must be fingerprinted using the MorphoTrust form provided at the end of the application. This form is already filled out with the required information for fingerprinting. BOATING SAFETY, Classroom Study #8484

Sponsored by the United States Power Squadrons, and taught by certified instructors licensed by the State of NJ, this approved Boating Safety Course meets all mandatory requirements necessary for obtaining your New Jersey State Boating Safety Certificate. As of June 1, 2009, all those 16-years of age and older, operating a power vessel, including a personal watercraft (PWC) on the waterways of New Jersey, must have successfully completed a boating safety course. The legislation requires a minimum of 8 hours of instruction with at least 6 hours of in-classroom study and a proctored exam. Those successfully completing the course will receive the New Jersey Marine Police Boating Safety Certificate that must be in the operator’s possession at all times when on the waters of the state. Subjects to satisfy the requirements include: mandatory safety equipment, navigation rules, aids, lights and sound signals, government, state and local regulations, finding your way, anchoring, adverse conditions and emergencies, communications afloat, water sports safety, trailering, PWC operation and knots & lines, and finally, an introduction to piloting, navigation and charts. USPS is America’s largest non-profit educational organization dedicated to making boating safe and more enjoyable by teaching a variety of boating related subjects. It’s never too late to learn golf. Ease your nervous tension, improve your overall game, and enjoy a better score. Beginners will learn the fundamentals, stance, pivot, grip, swing, arms, driving irons, and approach and putting shots. Bring a #3 or 5 wood, 7 & 9 irons, a golf mat or daisy doormat, and 12 plastic golf balls to each session. The instructor will recommend the correct size clubs on the first night.

SPORTS & FITNESS QIGONG #8317

Qi or “chi” means energy and “gong” refers to any skill which is highly developed through dedicated practice. There are thousands of forms of Qigong which focus on health, martial power, inner alchemy, spirituality and ethical development or can be a synthesis of these. Qigong often includes meditation and self-massage. Qigong exercises are generally performed with relaxation and focus. These meditative movements gently stretch and open the body and meridian system to promote a balance flow of qi. Practitioners know that consistent Qigong practice can build harmonious energy and a deep sense of centeredness. We will explore 4 different styles of Qigong, 2 sessions on each style.
