The Chamber’s purpose and goals are defined by Chamber and community leaders elected by the Chamber membership. The role of the Board of Directors is to ensure the organization adheres to its mission, to serve as an advocate for its members and for business in Burleson. In January, four new members joined the Board of Directors. Newly elected to three year terms were Brendan Bagnell, Turning Point Church; Jim Greener, H-E-B Plus; Chris Sutton, Chris Sutton Insurance; and Dan Taylor, Burleson Star. These four community leaders join a dedicated slate of Directors already holding leadership roles: Jason Bagley, Area Waste Solutions, Inc.; Craig Couch, Couch & Russell Financial Group; Kurt Jaeger, City Market; Norman Meyer, Christian Brothers Automotive Center – Burleson; Ruth Moor, Gonzo Strategies; Devohn Pugh, Your New Neighborhood; Russ Richardson, Community National Bank & Trust of Texas; Adam Russell, First National Bank of Burleson; Lisa Schwarz, Crazy8 Ministries; Mary Warren, Eliot Management Group; and Russ Weaver, Texas Health Huguley Hospital Fort Worth South. Four individuals serve the Chamber in an Ex-Officio (non-voting) Director capacity: Justin Bond, City of Burleson Economic Development; Mikala Hill, Burleson Independent School District; Nancy Holland, Hill College; and Chief Billy Cordell, Burleson Police Department. These individuals provide a vital link between the Chamber, the city, and our community’s education system. The current Chamber Executive Committee is Russ Richardson, Chairman of the Board; Craig Couch, Vice-Chairman; Russ Weaver, Vice-Chairman Elect; Chris Sutton, Secretary; Kurt Jaeger, Treasurer, and Adam Russell, Past Chairman. Now in his final year of service, Past Chair Adam Russell says, "I’m proud of where the Chamber is today. The mission of the Burleson Chamber is to serve as an advocate for our members and we're on that track. Serving as chair of the Chamber Board was a great opportunity to network, build new relationships and serve in our great community." The Chamber extends its thanks to four Directors whose Board terms expired after multiple years of Board leadership. These past Board members are Aly Allen-Engstrom, United Way; Phillip Marcantel, H-E-B Plus; and Bill Mecke, KWS Manufacturing Co., Ltd. Special thanks is extended to Lisa Keese with Service First Mortgage and a Past Chairman of the Board. Lisa’s Board dedicated service to the Chamber spanned six consecutive years of leadership. Directors bring their collective professional knowledge and experience to the management of the Chamber. They are willing and ready Chamber representatives and volunteers, create a clear vision for the Chamber, and share a common commitment to the Chamber’s success. Every Chamber Board member stands ready to assist our members. Directors welcome member calls and inquiries about the Chamber, their role of service and our mission.

in our great community.” —Adam Russell, 2016 Past Chair

The winner of the Chamber’s 2015 Shooting STAR Small Business of the Year is Cool Dog Graphics (CDG), a full-service sign, graphics and marketing company. In business for six years and a Chamber member since 2011, CDG was founded on the principle of providing exceptional service to people: treating others the way they would like to be treated. Owners Max and Teresa Andrews say most of their customers come through word-of-mouth and referrals. Customers referring customers is a true testimony to CDG’s dedication to world class customer service for any job large or small, from producing a single sign or banner to creating a complete advertising solution.

CDG’s most recent success was their move into a new building. While this provided much needed space, the enormous energy of the move took place even as their business continued to grow. “It was worth the effort,” says Max. “The new building gives us the true ability to keep up with our expanding business.”

While signage is still a key component of their business, the company is now much more involved in promotional products such as t-shirts, golf hats and many other printed products. The company has also expanded their website design business to complete the advertising cycle. “A great website is one of the strongest marketing tools a business has,” says Max. “We work alongside the customer to create a website that is functional and conveys the company’s message in an eye-catching, memorable manner.”

CDG’s golf tournament service and signage is another fast-growing segment. The service includes tournament hole signs with motivational golf quotations, a portable title sign that is a focus point for tournaments, an online registration website, and many other golf items such as hats, shirts, scorecards, banners, etc. The full-service tournament services are available throughout the state of Texas. The company is also creating a new website to provide online shoppers the ability to purchase nationwide.

“Chambers are well-respected in their business communities. We were honored to be selected as a winner,” Max said about winning the Shooting STAR award. “When potential customers look at CDG, this gives us an edge. It’s a statement that others believe we do a good job and are a respected company. This is a great tool to help us market our business.”

Cool Dog Graphics has worked with the Chamber on many special events; they have been an integral part of the Annual Golf Tournament since 2012, as well as installing the Chamber’s digital sign. Max holds a Board of Director position with the Joshua Chamber, and CDG provides discounts to churches and chambers, speaks about sign ordinances at city council meetings, and dedicates countless hours to new business owners to help them best market their company.

“Our business has never been money focused, our strategy has always been people focused,” says Max. “We live by a Zig Ziglar philosophy: ‘You will get what you want if you help enough other people get what they want.’” The principle has worked very well for CDG and exemplifies the characteristics of a Shooting STAR Small Business of the Year.

The Shooting STAR Small Business of the Year award was sponsored by Citizens National Bank of Texas.
