SRA 4 Building Block Description 4/25

    1. Introduction The objective of this document is to give the user an insight into the different configurations available in the SRA 4 radio system. Once a radio configuration has been decided upon, the document should provide the user with a detailed parts list to fit the chosen configuration. The information listed below are the main variables in choosing the desired radio configuration. For guidelines regarding particulars configurations not described in this document please refer to MW Technical Sales. The main changes in comparison with the previous version (Series 3) are an increase in the transport capacity and the introduction of the concept of IDU sub rack and cards. The items contained within the sub rack can be easily removed and inserted. Regarding the ODU, they are exactly the same as the SRA Series3. 1.1 Type

    7/ 8/ 11/ 15/ 18/ 23/ 26/ 38 GHz

    1.3 Radio Configurations and Capacity

The possible configurations are listed below:

    (1+0) STM-1, 2xSTM-1 (2+0) STM-1, 2xSTM-1 Ring Node 2x(1+0) STM-1, 2xSTM-1 (1+1) STM-1, 2xSTM-1 (2+0) Co-Channel STM-1, 2xSTM-1 (1+1) Co-Channel STM-1, 2xSTM-1 (N+1) STM-1, 2xSTM-1 (N 3)

Some configurations are not allowed depending on the frequency channel arrangement. These constraints are explained in chapter 2.1.

    2. Equipment Operation The mechanical arrangement of the indoor part is in agreement with the standards defined by ETSI (Desktop ETSI rack -19 rack). The IDU is frequency independent, i.e. the same IDU rack can work in all frequencies from 7 up to 38 GHz. The indoor unit is 2U high. Inside, the indoor part consists of the Controller, the Alarm Unit, the Fan Unit and up to two BB Modems. Each BB Modem is able to (de)modulate up to 2xSTM-1. There are available two types of modulations: 32TCM (normal density) and 128TCM (high density). The choice is made via software. The ODU is a single compact mechanical structure dependent only on frequency of the radio. The ODU for protected and unprotected configuration houses one RF per case. The ODU can be mounted directly to the rear of the antenna or mounted separately from the antenna. Each ODU is connected with one BB Modem via a co-axial cable. The cable carries the power for the ODU, the payload and also the telemetry channel. 2.1 Constraints associated to the Configuration The following table summarizes the channel occupancy bandwidth for each type of modulation (Normal Density and High Density) and capacity:

    Bandwidth STM-1 2xSTM-1

    128 TCM (HD) 28 MHz 55/56 MHz 32 TCM (ND) 55/56 MHz

Independent of all the equipment configurations mentioned in chapter 1.3, constraints regarding the channel arrangement (channel occupancy bandwidth) in each country must be taken into account. For example, according to the ITU channel arrangement recommendation for 7GHz, the maximum channel occupied bandwidth allowed is 28 MHz. It means that 2xSTM-1 configurations in one channel cannot be installed.

    4. Radio Terminal The following chapters should guide you to configure your Radio Terminal. In order to have a complete parts list for your desired configuration in an easy way, it is divided in four parts:

    Licenses, that are independent of the configuration (1+0/1+1/2+0/N+1); IDUs hardware, that are independent of the RF parts; RF Parts; Common Items;

4.1. Licenses Part Number and Quantities One terminal SVR license (code 625-017/76) must be always ordered for the system, independently from configuration (one per 1+0/1+1/2+0/N+1 terminal). You must choose one of the licenses below for the capacity that you require setting your radio. The capacity options available on your radio are dependent on your choice of BB Modem. Once again, it must be quoted one per terminal, independently from the configuration.

4.3. RF Parts The RF Parts of SRA 4 are exactly the same as the SRA Series 3. Therefore there are different types of ODU depending on the frequency range, as explained below. ODU Unit Narrow Band (15/26 GHz) At 15/26GHz two different ODUs (Narrowband) are available: ODU normal density (example: SINGLE TR 15GHZ WITH OUTDOOR CASE) and ODU high density, identified in the description with HD (example: SINGLE TR HD 15GHZ WITH OUTDOOR CASE). The following table shows the compatibility between these ODUs and the type of modulation set in the BB Modem.

As a consequence, a changing from 1+1 HSBY and 1+1 PD/1+1 FD (or vice versa) requires a re-setting of switches performed in factory. ODU Unit Wideband (7/8/11/18/23/38 GHz) Being new ODU versions (Wideband), one unique code for ND and HD is need for these frequencies. The right description in this case is simply XX GHZ OUTDOOR UNIT. Please note that at 7/8/11/18/23/38GHz the ODU for Single/Diversity polarization and for Hot Stand By is the same. This is because these ODUs dont need the RF switch for HSBY application but it uses the squelch concept that can be disabled via SW. Part No. Description (31)087 735-201/xx xxGHz Outdoor Unit These ODUs are identified using the factory code and extension. In particular, the extension is identified by three groups of digits: 1) the first (now is only W) identifies the provider; 2) the second identifies the shifter (in the present situation the ETSI or ANSI bands); 3) the third identifies the sub-band. They (wideband) can be tuned SW way, according the table below:

The use of circulators or couplers and their respective losses can be avoided offering two antennas. But, as mentioned above, these configurations will not be described in this document. The type (length) of flexible waveguide depends on the size of the antenna to be offered. 2 of this item are necessary in case of double polarized antenna, where two antenna feeders have to be connected. The possible configurations illustrated are:

1+0 (integrated solution available for 15/23/26/38 GHz) 1+1 HOT STAND-BY (integrated solution available for 15/26 GHz) 1+1 PD / 1+1 CC / 2+0 CC (1 antenna, dual polarization), (integrated

solution available for 15/26 GHz) 1+1 FD / 2+0 (not integrated solution on single antenna)

The 2x(1+0) configuration is implemented doubling the quantity described on 1+0 configuration. In this case two antennas must be offered. The 3+1 configuration is implemented doubling the quantity described on 1+1 FD configuration. In this case a double polarization antenna or two antennas must be offered. The 2+1 (expansible up to 3+1) configuration follows the same procedure of 3+1 configuration unless the quantities of ODUs that in this case are 3 per terminal. The 2+1 not expansible configuration is implemented taking into consideration the

The BB-Modem, Controller Unit, Alarm Unit, Fan Unit and Back-up Memory Key are already included in the IDU unit mentioned in the chapter 4.2. Therefore it must be quoted only as spare parts. 5.1 ODU spare parts optimization A method to optimize the ODU spare parts is explained here below. The ODU at 7/8GHz, having a center filter tuned, it is not possible to set the operation channel in field. Therefore, at least one ODU for each different tx operation channel in the network must be ordered. The ODU at 11/18/23/38GHz, being a large bands ODU, follows the standard rules: starting from the total number of ODU in a particular sub-band foreseen in the network, the number of ODU to guarantee a suitable spare part stock is evaluated starting from the MTBF of ODU itself. ODU SPARE OPTIMIZATION FOR 15/26GHZ Each ODU consists of two parts, depending on frequency: RF unit and Duplexer. The Duplexer is tuned on a particular Tx working frequency. This means that a Duplexer must be quoted for each frequency used in the network, being this filter nailed on its own working frequency. On the contrary, each RF unit can be tuned in a 120MHz range (60Mhz) around its RF frequency, previously tuned in the factory, if this 120MHz range fully belongs to one of the ranges listed below: FREQUENCY RANGE LIST: RF RANGE TX (MHZ) 1 14500-14928 2 14928-15350

RF RANGE SHIFTER (MHZ) TX (MHZ) 1 1008 24500-25000 2 1008 25000-25500 3 1008 25500-26000 4 1008 26000-26500 Consider that the 120MHz range is the tunability of the central working frequency. The reason of this is explained in the following figure: In the above example, the range 14500-14928 MHz represents the full range associated to a particular ODU; when the central frequency is selected (working frequency of ODU), the ODU can also work in 120 MHz range, simply setting another frequency SW way, only if the 120MHz tunability range in inside the allowed ODU range. However, if the central frequency is selected like in case B, part of the 120MHz cannot be used. Therefore, the same ODU can be used as spare for more than its RF central frequency, if both the following conditions are verified:

    1. The required frequencies are inside 120MHz range (60Mhz) around its RF central frequency (this frequency id identified by a label on it).

    2. The 120MHz range fully belongs to the tunability ranges listed below. The rule to be followed is:

    1. Order one ODU for each identified range 2. Order 1 Duplexer for each Tx frequency, excluding the Duplexer on Tx

    working frequency of ODU.
