Optimizer+A unique solution

Maintenance organizations have been put under increasing pressure in recent years to deliver optimum performance. It is widely accepted that good maintenance contributes to increased production and lower costs. It is also widely recognized that maintenance is an essential link in keeping assets operating safely and sustainably. But how you put this into practice is an aspect that often does not receive the attention it deserves. Sometimes the methods and work processes do in fact exist, but a solution that provides a practical structure for the whole process is missing. Optimizer+, which supports the process that leads to optimum maintenance, is a complete answer to this problem.

A number of issues are relevant to good maintenance:• A risk-based approach is commonly seen as the best way to

develop an eff ective preventive maintenance plan.

• Maintenance organizations want to work with generic maintenance strategies: a standard solution is wanted for standard equipment. Not reinventing the wheel every time.

• A balance has to be found between the fi nancial result, the operational result and residual risk. Maintenance is a control element that needs to be adjusted in order to fi nd the optimum balance.

• Organizations manage their assets primarily in their EAM system. Consequently, other solutions and methods or software solutions have to be able to interface eff ectively with that system.

• Once created, preventive maintenance plans should serve as the basis for an activity-based budget. Instead of simply being increased by a percentage for infl ation, the budget should be established based on the necessary activities that are required to achieve the target objective. Naturally, with the option of setting priorities.

• Maintenance organizations want to share data with and learn from other business units. Within large concerns, but also between smaller organizations.

• One would like maintenance decisions to be made objective and reproducible. ‘Gut feeling’ is no longer enough: fi rm numbers based on facts or expert judgment are required.

• Continual improvement must become a habit. The goal is to always strive for greater reliability and lower life-cycle costs.

What the above-mentioned issues have in common is that they directly aff ect the way in which maintenance plans are created. A second common factor is that all the above-mentioned issues are supported in optimum coordination by Optimizer+. This is a truly unique feature of Optimizer+.

Optimizer+ is the truly revolutionary solution for creating, managing and optimizing maintenance concepts based on risk. With Optimizer+, you can justify concrete objectives in the areas of safety, availability, the environment and maintenance costs. Your organization expects a certain level of performance from your plant and equipment. Within this framework, you pursue objectives, which, for example are designed to reduce costs, maximize production and guarantee a minimal level of safety. Objectives are not generic. So many organizations, so many objectives. But there is one solution that allows you to shape to this process optimally: Optimizer+. Thanks in part to an extensive library functionality, the possibility of tuning your own process and high-end facilities for interfacing with your EAM system.

Functionality

Set operational objectives in the areas of safety, reliability, the environment and costs and carry out criticality analyses based on those objectives. You can determine the priorities within your system components quickly and clearly with the help of the Quick FMECA function.

Library function: allows re-use of analyses and maintenance measures after initial successful execution and implementation.

Import of the Asset Register from an EAM system, following which maintenance plans can be created directly ‘in the Asset Tree’.

Create maintenance plans in accordance with RCM, FMECA or in line with your own experience, based on the different libraries.

Determine your stock situation based on the criticality analysis that has been carried out.

Analyze costs, risk and operational performance based on the current maintenance plan.

Find an optimum balance between operational performance, financial performance and residual risk

via simulations. As a result you are able to work towards meeting your concrete objectives, such as “10% saving on maintenance” or “increase availability by 2%”, in a responsible fashion.

Minimize (the risk of) unacceptable incidents.

Calculate the effects of modifications and new construction before proceeding to make major, high-risk investments.

Export the resulting maintenance plan to your EAM system for operational execution.

Minimize the total costs during the entire life-cycle of the plant/equipment within the framework of Life Cycle Costing (LCC).

Perform a root cause analysis in order to identify the true cause of faults.

Use risk-based inspection to determine the next inspection date for atmospheric storage tanks.

Optimizer+ is built up from 13 different modules. These modules can be purchased and combined according to your needs. Optimizer+ has 3 different standard lines: FAST VALUE: For the user who is focused on achieving a quick result with help from criticality analyses and maintenance concepts. PROCESS VALUE: For the user who wants to deploy Optimizer+ optimally in combination with the existing working methods and EAM system. MAX VALUE: For the user who wants to go all the way: the objective is maximum grip on and optimum return from the maintenance process.

Fast value is the minimum variant of Optimizer+ that can be adopted. Your needs can of course be further satisfied by adding separately purchased modules to the three standard lines; the integral functioning of Optimizer+ is guaranteed for every combination. The development of more modules is anticipated in the near future. For more information contact us via [email protected].

Optimizer+ modules

LibraryThe library consists of a collection of assets to which the generic failure behavior and frequently occurring maintenance measures have been added. Organizations that operate a variety of similar plant and equipment where the same type of assets are commonly used benefit the most from the power of the library module. Assets and the associated maintenance actions can be easily retrieved from the library and re-used.

Operational ObjectivesThe objectives that the organization strives to achieve are documented in this module. For example, objectives such as availability, safety, the environment and costs. Expressing these objectives in a quantitative manner makes it possible to determine objectively and reproducibly which assets are associated with an unacceptable risk. A risk matrix can be used to map out any critical assets.

Quick FMECAThe Quick FMECA module helps to establish priorities. This structured and clear analysis is based on the documented operational objectives and used to identify which plant/equipment components are critical and therefore require attention in order to prevent failure. In the next step, these plant/equipment components are displayed in a recognizable way. This approach provides a fast and clear understanding of the risks associated with all the assets that you manage.

FMECAAn FMECA (RCM) can be conducted on the installation components judged to be critical by the Quick FMECA. In this module the effect of failure is described for the different operational objectives adopted. Components are determined critical or not critical depending on the adopted risk thresholds:

the risk matrix is an indispensable tool for this. Risk-reducing measures can now be drawn up for critical components.

Maintenance conceptsIn the case of critical assets, failure is prevented or reduced to an acceptable level. Clustering activities is one of the possibilities. Ultimately, this results in a maintenance concept that defines an overview of all the various measures.

FlexGridWithin Optimizer+, you can design your own screens with mandatory and optional fields. This ensures that only the information that is required is displayed. This screen structure allows you to check and, if necessary, modify large amounts of data both easily and in a user-friendly way.

Interface EAMOnce created, the maintenance concept has to be put into practice. This almost always takes place with the aid of an EAM system. High-end interfaces that operate based on web services are available for almost all commonly used EAM systems. The interfaces make it possible to import the maintenance concepts efficiently into the EAM system. This achieves integration between Optimizer+ and the EAM system, which substantially increases user-friendliness and speed of analysis.

Simulation/optimizationThis module allows you to calculate a scenario for the maintenance concept you have set up in order to identify expected availability, the required man-hours, the associated costs and the residual risk. By calculating the effects of alternatives, different scenarios can be compared to each other, following which a substantiated decision can be made.

Page 7: Brochure Optimizer+

Inventory managementKeeping spare parts in stock can reduce the risk of unacceptable repeat occurrences. The stock situation that Optimizer+ works with is based on the criticality analyses that have been performed. The same applies to the maintenance concepts that are still to be established. Keeping a critical component in stock can be an eff ective measure. The Stock Management module supports this process of risk management.

User reportsOptimizer+ has an extensive number of reports at its disposal in order to support the various processes. Nevertheless, in practice most clients need to be able to develop their own reports, specifi cally tailored to the requirements and wishes of their own process and organization. You can produce any desired report using this module.

LanguageOptimizer+ is available in diff erent languages. With this module you can change the language with one mouse click. You can set the language in Optimizer+ to Dutch, French, German, English or Russian.

Root Cause analysisThis module makes it possible to you to identify the root cause of a problem in a structured way. The event map is central to this. By assigning actions, recording decisions and storing conclusions in a central database, the acquired knowledge can be retrieved with a single click of the mouse.

RBI for atmospheric storage tanksYou can use the RBI module to optimize maintenance intervals and inspection dates of storage tanks including peripheral equipment. That can generate substantial savings. This module has been developed based on all aspects of EEMUA 159 and can also be used in a stand-alone environment. Combining this module with the FMECA module leads to the creation of a unique marriage between RCM and RBI within one single software solution as referred to in the EEMUA PPM (Probabilistic Preventive Maintenance) guidelines. This module is certifi ed by Lloyd’s Register.
