The safety of others is of the utmost importance to VELUX. In addition to

selecting the correct skylight for the application, VELUX recommends protecting

all skylight openings and skylights with one or more of the fall protection

accessories. All VELUX fall protection accessories are tested to withstand a

minimum 400 pound static load. VELUX recommends that the building owner

or manager restrict roof access only to personnel who have been sufficiently

cautioned as to the location of the skylights, advised that there exists a risk of

falling through the skylights, and warned not to sit, step or walk on the skylights.

Building owner or manager should provide fall protection around the skylight in

accordance with OSHA regulations.

Fall Protection Accessories

Interior safety screens (CRGA ICD)Internal safety screens with 3⁄16” steel mesh spaced at 6” on center provides a cost effective means of protecting the skylight opening during construction and long after construction is complete.

VELUX offers the choice of laminated or tempered glass skylights. Impact glass and comfortplus glass are all types of laminated glass. Comfort glass is a type of tempered glass. Laminated glass is a combination of two or more glass sheets with one or more interlayers of plastic (PVB) or resin. In case of breakage, the interlayer is designed to hold the fragments together. Tempered glass does not contain an interlayer to hold the fragments together. Instead, tempered glass is designed to break into small, pebble-like pieces. When tempered glass breaks, pieces of glass come loose and may strike an individual.
